Background / History

Leng Yaozhu was raised to maintain a dignified, composed bearing, in contrast to her younger sister, Leng Yulai. About a century before the main events, the sisters—known as the Leng Family’s twin phoenixes—were attacked by Evil Soul Masters from the Five Chang Association while gaining experience away from home. Whether the encounter was accidental or their whereabouts had been leaked remained unknown 76 81.

She maintained old ties with the Wu Family of Star Luo City and knew Wu Changyan when he was the family head’s cherished young son. On their later reunion, he remarked that her appearance had scarcely changed, while he had grown old 76.

Leng Yaozhu also took in Leng Nu Jiao, an orphan abandoned during a thunderstorm, and raised her at the Spirit Pagoda for more than ten years. She trained Nu Jiao before assigning her to protect and assist Tang Qingye 7 12 20.

Both Leng sisters had loved Yun Ming. Leng Yulai’s jealousy toward her older sister contributed to her decision to join the Holy Spirit Cult. Leng Yaozhu did not know that her missing sister had become the cult’s Dark Phoenix until Tang Qingye revealed it 41 117.

In public, Leng Yaozhu is composed and authoritative. Staff and other Soul Masters recognize her immediately, and even a restrained glance can intimidate those around her. With Tang Qingye and Leng Nu Jiao, she becomes playful, affectionate, and fond of teasing 4 12 18 19.

Her generosity is practical rather than merely verbal. She offers Qingye access to her resources, supports his entire family’s relocation, secures rare training materials, and uses her professional connections to find him a forging teacher. Although indulgent, she insists on structured study and warns him against impatience 4 6 21 22 24.

She is especially sensitive to Qingye risking his safety without consulting her. When he experiments alone, she explains that her anger comes from fear for him rather than a desire to control his secrets. Her own vulnerability becomes clearer after learning Leng Yulai’s identity and when Qingye finds her asleep, pleading for him not to leave 21 41 81.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Recruiting and Establishing Tang Qingye

Leng Yaozhu encounters Qingye at the Spirit Pagoda after his Martial Soul frightens the available Soul Spirits. Examining his Seven-Colored Heaven-Slaying Gourd, she senses exceptionally pure vitality and formidable sword intent. Recognizing his potential, she immediately claims him as her personal disciple and promises him her resources 4 5.

She then arranges his family’s move from Aolai City to Shrek City. For his first Soul Spirit, she opens the Core Repository’s deepest restricted collection and ultimately supports his choice of the Nine Heavens Azure Luan despite her concerns about attribute compatibility 6 9 10 11.

Directing His Training

Leng Yaozhu introduces Qingye to Nu Jiao and the Spirit Ascension Platform, then builds a demanding program covering combat and secondary professions. She purchases the Nine Nether Cold Blade, bids eighty million for the Thorn Dragon Crystal he wants, and gives him a storage ring with automatic Phoenix Fire Shield protection 12 18 19 20 24.

She also obtains the Black Tortoise Divine Pill, supervises its absorption, and helps Qingye begin studying design, manufacture, and forging. Her connection to Zhen Hua leads to his acceptance as the Divine Craftsman’s disciple 21 22 24 37.

Countering the Holy Spirit Cult

After Qingye draws Na Nali into a confrontation, Leng Yaozhu suppresses her but agrees to spare her when he insists that he can control her. Information obtained from Na Nali subsequently informs their plans against the Holy Spirit Cult 31 32 41.

Working with Na Nali and Second Baby, she ambushes Dark Hummingbird in a sealed alley. Second Baby disrupts his Soul Power while she delivers crippling attacks with phoenix fire and destroys the physical traces afterward 45.

Star Luo Visit and Birthday

Leng Yaozhu takes Qingye to Star Luo City, renews her connection with the Wu Family, and evaluates Wu Siduo as a potential future ally for him. Afterward, she accompanies him into the Light-Dark Holy Evil Tiger’s domain, only to watch the Gourd’s seed absorb the tiger’s two souls and origin power 75 76 77 79.

At the Leng Family residence, Qingye comforts her and celebrates her birthday with a handmade cake. His spiritual sword gift prompts her to embrace and kiss him 80 81.

Secluded Breakthrough

Before entering seclusion, Leng Yaozhu delegates Spirit Pagoda work to Da Bai, Xiao Bai, and Nu Jiao, while trusting Qingye with outside affairs. She orders that she not be disturbed except in a life-or-death emergency and begins her assault on the Limit Douluo barrier 95.
