History
Destruction of the Xue Kingdom
The Mortal Realm Zhang Family’s rebellion was not principally an attempt to acquire a throne. The cultivation-world family wanted something belonging to the Xue Clan, and cultivators joined the war, contributing to the Xue Kingdom’s repeated military defeats. Xue Fuyao later learned that the Central Continent Zhang Family had orchestrated her kingdom’s destruction 54 440.
In Xue Fuyao’s previous life, the usurpers retained power and used their cultivation-world connections to send descendants into the Cultivation Realm. The cultivation-world Zhang Family also prevented sects from accepting her, forcing her to become a rogue cultivator. In her reborn life, the Mortal Realm Zhang regime was overthrown during her two-year disappearance, and General Qin took power 5 8.
Secret-Realm Conflict
Xue Fuyao encountered the Zhang Family Triplets in the Qingfeng Secret Realm after they obtained entry through slots sold by the Kunlun Sect. Remembering their dangerous telepathic coordination from her previous life, she decided to strike while they had only recently entered Foundation Establishment 38 229.
She impersonated their cultivation aura after harvesting a valley’s spirit medicines, directing suspicion toward the brothers. After the expedition, a Zhang elder publicly demanded answers over the family’s losses without evidence, receiving no support from either the Yuanji Sect or the Kunlun Sect 41 49.
Ruins Rumor and Wedding Disaster
After learning the motive behind the rebellion, Xue Fuyao spread news of a Spirit Transformation cultivator’s cave-abode ruins discovered by the Zhang Family. The rumor inflated into claims of an Integrated Body Realm inheritance. Pressure from outside powers forced the family to share the site, while disappointed treasure-seekers accused it of concealing the real inheritance 54.
She next infiltrated the Flowing Cloud City residence before Zhang Qingluan’s wedding to Jin Chengxin. She contaminated a kitchen well with ten-thousand-year-old spirit-transforming grass and sent the Treasure-Seeking Mouse, Big Treasure, into the estate. At the ceremony, revelations about Jin Chengxin’s other women and children turned the wedding into a public scandal 57 58 59.
Big Treasure emptied the treasure vault, Library Pavilion, and Alchemy Pavilion, taking the family’s stored Spirit Stones as well. The Zhang Family sealed Flowing Cloud City, publicly claiming that only one supreme treasure had been stolen rather than admitting the scale of its losses. The gates reopened after three days 59 60 83.
Alliance, Poisonings, and Division
Unable to recover its reserves, the Flowing Cloud City family sought help from its Delusion City relatives to avoid being absorbed by rival lineages. The mission was complicated by the Fifth Elder’s painful illness, temporarily reassuring him with a family-exclusive Hundred Remedies Pill 83.
The Delusion City family later suffered devastating losses in the Emperor’s Tomb. Some members died to traps, but others had been poisoned by Zhang Xueheng, who was avenging his parents. The survivors withdrew to Flowing Cloud City with their assets, where Xueheng continued poisoning clan members 117.
Suspicion fell on the newly arrived relatives. Fighting between the two groups ended in a draw, with the Delusion City faction seizing half the local family’s assets. A Central Continent envoy intervened, demanded an investigation into a supposed internal traitor, and questioned the family about the missing Xue Clan Ancestral Lands 118 119 122.
Destruction of the Southern Stronghold
Xue Fuyao gradually transformed the aging Spirit Transformation ancestor into her puppet. She then used him to massacre the Flowing Cloud City estate while its protective formation prevented escape. The ancestor killed the Central Continent envoy as well; after the slaughter, Xue Fuyao ordered him to kill himself 118 124.
The destruction was not complete. Zhang Yizhi and Zhang Qizhi led survivors through a hidden teleportation formation. Xue Fuyao’s guards continued hunting escaped members, while she recognized that the surviving Central Continent family could sponsor a replacement Southern Continent branch 229.
South Sea Rebuilding Attempt
Zhang Qizhi obtained support in the Central Continent and returned to rebuild the family. Survivors gathered in South Sea City for two objectives: Zhang Zhenyu’s group sought the Sea God’s Blessing, while another group pursued newly unearthed ancient ruins under the direction of two female Nascent Soul elders 229 235 247.
Despite their hostility, the Zhang cultivators temporarily cooperated with Xue Fuyao against the demonically corrupted City Lord Liu. Their two Nascent Soul elders helped defeat him after Xue Fuyao weakened him 242.
The expedition produced no gains and cost the family Zhang Yizhi. As the survivors departed aboard a spirit boat, Xue Fuyao ambushed them, trapped the two elders in a formation, and killed the remaining passengers, including Zhang Qizhi and Zhang Zhenyu. She searched their souls before destroying the boat and escaping; the two Nascent Soul elders were not confirmed killed 247 248.
Campaign Against the Central Continent Family
The Central Continent family weakened under a new patriarch. His early reforms improved its position, but successive mistakes depleted its strength and created an urgent demand for resources. Its agents planned to take the Li, Wang, Sun, and Zhou families to the Central Continent, kill them, and retain their wealth. Xue Fuyao intercepted their attempted departure 440.
She later captured Zhang Hui, a concealed family genius, using powerful puppets. After crippling his cultivation and damaging his soul, she extracted memories and ordered him refined into a puppet intended as her “first blade” against the family 467 469 470.
The family eventually stopped its disciples from traveling alone and killed personnel sent against it, forcing Xue Fuyao to suspend her immediate plan. Several years later, her guards reported that the Zhang Family remained secluded in its ancestral land and had frustrated repeated attempts to act against it 479 486.
Strength and Resources
Cultivators
| Branch or Group | Documented Strength |
|---|---|
| Flowing Cloud City | A Spirit Transformation ancestor, already near the end of his lifespan before Xue Fuyao’s attack 57 124. |
| Delusion City’s Emperor’s Tomb expedition | One Nascent Soul elder, two Golden Core elders, and Foundation Establishment disciples; among the strongest participating forces below the Yuanji Sect and City Lord’s Mansion 108. |
| South Sea rebuilding party | Two female Nascent Soul elders, both carrying incompletely healed internal injuries before the group’s departure 247. |
| Zhang Hui | A hidden Central Continent genius. In Xue Fuyao’s previous life, he reached Void Refinement at just over a thousand years old and was regarded as a potential ascendant 467. |
Alchemy
The Flowing Cloud City branch’s alchemical reserves formed a significant part of its inherited wealth 64.
- Hundred Remedies Pill: A proprietary medicine refined from more than one hundred kinds of spirit medicine; restricted to core disciples and virtually unknown to outsiders 83.
- Pill stockpile: Its Alchemy Pavilion held a large supply of supreme-grade pills before Big Treasure emptied it 64.
- Post-theft shortages: The family could not initially supply even ordinary Fasting Pills, leaving disciples to obtain cultivation resources themselves 83.
Specialized Abilities and Artifacts
- Triplets’ telepathy: The three brothers could communicate across ten thousand miles, transmit memories, and sense one another’s danger without magical treasures 38.
- Past-viewing spiritual artifact: The Delusion City family possessed a supreme-grade artifact that displayed previous events at its current location. How far back it could show depended on the activating cultivator’s strength 103.
- Protective formation: The Flowing Cloud City estate’s array could prevent both entry and exit; Xue Fuyao exploited this during the ancestor’s massacre 124.
- Hidden teleportation formation: An emergency escape route preserved members of the younger generation when the estate was destroyed 229.
- Spirit veins: Several low-rank veins remained available after the treasury theft, although mining them required time 83.
- Inherited collection: The stolen reserves included books, spirit medicines, valuable materials, and at least a thousand remaining artifacts after Xue Fuyao set aside resources for personal use 64 97.
