Appearance

Jimo Xiubai is introduced as a youthful boy with exceptionally beautiful features and flamboyant red clothing. His older brother resembles him closely but has a gentler bearing 60.

  • Eyes: Peach-blossom eyes, often emphasized when he smiles 60 61.
  • Distinguishing mark: A red tear mole at the corner of one eye 60.
  • During the Moon Dance City crisis: His disheveled hair and dark circles reveal the strain of managing the city during his brother’s illness 427.

Personality

Xiubai is outgoing, theatrical, and openly vain. He confidently insists that his looks make him universally lovable, even when Xue Fuyao repeatedly avoids him. His exaggerated grievances and shameless pleading frequently exasperate Jimo Yunqi 61 63 180 212.

He also has a calculating, profit-minded side. He recognizes the commercial value of the Snake Clan’s lost Sacrificial Dance, proposes selling forged copies, and deliberately exploits the wording of a tablet transaction to demand payment for each half separately 131 181.

His usual frivolity gives way to decisiveness during a crisis. He takes responsibility for Moon Dance City, personally leads defenders against a beast tide, and fiercely opposes any treatment he believes could damage his brother’s cultivation. Toward enemies, he can be ruthless, executing poisoned opponents and checking a household genealogy for missing members 427 428 430 441.

Background / History

The Apparent Betrayal in Xue Fuyao’s Previous Life

Xue Fuyao initially remembers Xiubai as a traitor who served the Demon Race, destroyed his own lineage, and reportedly killed his elder brother first. By the time she died in her previous life, he had already been dead for three years 60 61.

After learning about a Snake Demon Ancestor capable of Soul Possession, she concludes that the previous timeline’s “betrayal” was the work of that ancestor possessing Xiubai’s body. She attributes his escape from that fate in the current timeline to their meeting, which diverted him from his original training itinerary 128.

Meeting Xue Fuyao

Xiubai first seeks Xue Fuyao’s friendship to help his aunt, Jimo Linglong, meet Elder Lingmu, Xie Yichu. His aunt has loved the elder for years despite being firmly rejected, and Xiubai hopes to approach him indirectly through his disciple 60 61.

Fuyao’s memories make her wary of him. When she refuses to travel with the brothers and leaves for Falling Leaf City, Xiubai persuades Yunqi to follow her destination. He waits there for half a month, only to find that she remains unimpressed by his enthusiasm 61 63.

Abduction and Rescue

The brothers return home after a Snake Demon Ancestor possesses a rogue cultivator and attempts to slaughter a city in Jimo territory. While leading a search party for the escaped ancestor, Xiubai attracts a snake woman’s attention. She kills his companions and abducts him 128.

Despite threats, deprivation, and attempts to force him into dual cultivation, he refuses to submit. He launches a desperate attack that kills one of her attendants and prepares to die fighting rather than yield. Fuyao intervenes with Shattered Star and the Black Mandala, allowing him to escape 127 128.

Once safe, Xiubai breaks down in tears. His account of the incident prompts Fuyao to reconsider her understanding of his previous-life betrayal 128.

The Underground Palace and Forged Tablets

Xiubai identifies the mountain’s apparently natural Spirit-Locking Formation as an ancient artificial construction. After Fuyao treats his injuries, they break the formation together and uncover an underground palace associated with a Snake King 128 129.

The pair remove valuable reliefs and agree to share the proceeds equally. Upon discovering murals depicting the Snake-Demon Clan’s lost Sacrificial Dance, Xiubai proposes selling forged copies. They erase the originals, spend five days painting altered replacements, and use Fuyao’s formation to age the forgeries 130 131.

Xiubai subsequently negotiates with the Snake Clan over their stone slabs. During a meeting with Ziyan, he insists that the agreed price covers only his incomplete tablet, leaving Fuyao’s portion to be purchased separately 180 181.

Blazing Sun City

The brothers attend the Blazing Sun Holy Son’s Dao Companion Ceremony, where Xiubai reunites with Fuyao and shares news of the Rabbit Tribe’s attacks on human disciples. He also persuades Yunqi to take them to Blazing Sun Market 210 211 212.

After visiting the Holy Land with Fuyao, Xiubai later invites her to search its devastated ruins for surviving treasures. He explains that the sudden destruction may have left valuables buried before anyone could loot them 216 220.

The Three Realms Auction

After holding the Sacrificial Dance tablet for several years, Xiubai and Fuyao consider selling it directly, trading it to the Snake Clan, or auctioning it. They adopt Yunqi’s auction proposal, hoping rival bidders will drive up its value or prevent the Snake Clan from obtaining it cheaply 262 263.

Following the sale, Xiubai accepts Fuyao’s decision to exchange unwanted Snake Clan goods for spirit stones rather than risk retaining marked equipment. The auction house warns them that the Snake Clan is looking for them 277.

He later reports that seven races jointly purchased the tablets. After repeated fatal failures to practice the altered dance, they accused one another of sabotage and fought until all seven were badly weakened, allowing neighboring Demon Race forces to absorb them 431.

The Defense of Moon Dance City

When Yunqi is poisoned into unconsciousness, Xiubai assumes responsibility for Moon Dance City. Fuyao arrives to deliver an item to Yunqi and saves him, earning Xiubai’s heartfelt gratitude 427 428.

Xiubai leads the city’s defenders against a beast tide and notices that its composition is suspicious: it contains no Snake Clan beasts and differs markedly from earlier attacks. He correctly raises the possibility that it is only a vanguard 428 429.

Working with Fuyao, he follows a captured green snake to a longtime servant of the City Lord’s Mansion, exposing the servant as a half-demon infiltrator. Before the larger siege, he also buries the explosive devices Fuyao provides around the battlefield 432 433 435.

Retaliation Against the Four Lineages

Angered by the Li, Wang, Sun, and Zhou households’ refusal to reinforce Moon Dance City, Xiubai recruits Fuyao to seize most of their assets. He reveals that he has monitored their accumulated wealth for years and had been waiting for a legitimate reason to act 435 437 438.

Their operation escalates when they discover that the households intend to leave the Northwestern Lands under the Central Continent Zhang Family’s protection. Xiubai executes poisoned opponents and learns that the four households’ core disciples have already departed with valuable resources as a pledge to the Zhang Family 438 439 441.

The Dragon Gate

Xiubai accompanies Yunqi and Fuyao in the operation against the Dragon Gate, a True Dragon inheritance sought by the Snake Clan. He questions the risks of drawing other factions into the affair and worries that their father would oppose the plan 445.

The three enter under concealed identities and escape the illusion realm. Xiubai calls Fuyao “Xiao Bai” to avoid exposing her identity, then accompanies her into the dragon-mural chamber 448 449 450.

After leaving, the group withdraws as stronger forces converge on the Dragon Gate. They take advantage of the Demon Race’s absence to gather spirit medicines, dividing the finds equally between Fuyao and the brothers 452.
