On the other end of the video call, Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn turned their heads at the same time.
People outside in the school hallway began screaming too.
The color instantly drained from Peter's face, and his first reaction was to hang up the video call.
Chen Mo jerked his head up.
Venom reacted faster than he did.
The low-frequency vibrations and chaotic sound waves accompanying the explosion traveled through the city's structures, striking the symbiote like an invisible hammer.
The black substance recoiled from Chen Mo's neck as if it had burst apart.
Chen Mo grunted, his knees buckled, and he dropped straight onto the floor.
The blanket slipped halfway off.
Venom peeled away from his shoulders and back, hitting the floor like a mass of uncontrolled black shadow before rapidly contracting in pain.
Peter's expression changed.
"Chen Mo!"
Chen Mo raised a hand to his temple.
"I'm fine."
His voice had grown a little hoarse.
"Sound waves. Our wondrous little black alien life-form isn't too fond of those."
Tony had already switched all his interfaces.
Translucent screens unfolded around the armor, dense streams of data popping up.
"JARVIS, source of the explosion."
"Confirming. Preliminary location: an industrial warehouse district in southern Brooklyn. The site was previously registered as a reality show filming location. Participants included several recently active self-proclaimed superheroes and an investment team from a private entertainment company."
Tony's face darkened.
JARVIS continued his report:
"Residual alien energy from multiple sources detected. The explosion's intensity far exceeded the recorded capabilities of known powered individuals at the site. A chain reaction has occurred in the surrounding warehouse district, and the fire is spreading. Estimated casualties are rising rapidly."
Tony's voice immediately dropped.
"Both of you stay right where you are! Don't move! Don't leave! That's an order!"
