Background
Before entering the train-survival world, Ye Qiyan experienced unexplained improvements in machinery he used: a nearly scrapped computer could run demanding games after his touch, and an ordinary car could perform like a sports car while he drove it. His friends joked that he could “please machine spirits,” but he dismissed these incidents as coincidences until discovering Ascension 1.
His last memory of his former world is staying up late watching anime before everything went black. He awakens on the floor of a moving train, with no explanation for his arrival, and learns that the journey proceeds through new platforms at 24-hour intervals 1.
Personality
Ye Qiyan is pragmatic, independent, and protective of his privacy. He avoids publicizing his best possessions, reasoning that showing off would invite jealousy or resentment. He also respects other survivors’ secrets rather than demanding explanations for their unusual resources or talents 8 10 11.
His trading is unapologetically profit-driven. He refuses bargaining over his early firearms, blocks people seeking handouts or attempting to guilt him into sharing, and rejects Li Xiaosheng’s faction-building proposals. Nevertheless, he values reliable trading partners, especially those who communicate directly 5 6 19 24.
His caution coexists with a strong experimental streak. He initially avoids hunting platforms and postpones upgrades whose recoil or resource costs might be dangerous, but refuses to accept Ascension’s apparent ceiling—even when challenging it threatens to drain him completely 7 19 31.
He is not without compassion. He buries the remains found in the arsenal, leaves food for the manor’s surviving inhabitants, gives fruit to Tina and Smiley, and promises to help free Smiley from his curse 6 22 30 44. His humor frequently accompanies danger, including his claim that “God was hungry” while collecting provisions from the manor 21.
Abilities & Skills
Ascension
Ye Qiyan’s talent consumes stamina or mental energy to elevate and evolve an existence. Its applications extend beyond weapons to trains, blueprints, plants, protective objects, and eventually the talent itself 1 11 12 31 35.
- Broad targets: Can improve an item’s level, function, physical form, or enchantments. His bulletproof vest becomes less bulky without losing protection 13.
- Potential limits: Individual objects can exhaust their potential and become ineligible for further Ascension. The Fine Marksman Rifle reaches this point at Level 2 8.
- Not necessarily a level increase: The Level 6 Great Compassion Heavy Machine Gun gains a Mental Magazine but remains Level 6 44.
- Blueprint-and-product upgrades: He can ascend a blueprint, craft its improved product, then ascend that product again 35 46.
- Resistance breakthrough: Initially, attempts to advance beyond Level 4 meet resistance. Ascending his own talent adds “ignoring resistance” to its description 31 32.
- Intangible module restriction: After installation, the System Binding and In-Station Startup modules have no tangible form and cannot undergo Ascension 32.
- Resource risk: Heavy use can leave him exhausted or unconscious. His self-Ascension causes system errors and a blackout 3 31.
Gunfire Judgment
An advanced conductor module that replaces his initially poor marksmanship with proficiency in any firearm 13 18.
- Allows accurate shots without deliberate aiming, including attacks on moving Puppets’ joints and heads 27.
- Can consume mental energy to empower the next bullet; its strength increases according to the target’s sins 18.
- Does not guarantee victory against stronger opponents: Ye Qiyan doubts that even this trump card would defeat Shaya 28.
Unusual Mental Resilience
Ye Qiyan repeatedly fails to experience the expected psychological effects of low spirit. He later notes that even dropping below 20 points has produced no noticeable symptoms, while his mental energy recovers faster than his stamina 3 12 50.
- This is an observed anomaly, not a separately confirmed system ability 50.
- It does not make him immune to all mental interference: raw Whiteforest Fruit nearly compels him to eat it through its hallucinogenic fragrance 9.
Lightning Dash
A movement module acquired from a Level 5 treasure chest 38.
- Its original description specifies spending 30 stamina to envelop the body in lightning and move a short distance at extreme speed.
- Ye Qiyan ascends the module, but its revised effects and costs are not provided 38.
Trading and Resource Management
Ye Qiyan turns his early arsenal haul into construction materials, water infrastructure, blueprints, and Train Coins 5 6 11.
- Converts surplus firearms into resources needed to expand his train 5 7.
- Manufactures Level 3 ammunition after acquiring a bullet blueprint and gunpowder 17 23.
- Trades ten bullets for enough gunpowder to manufacture one hundred, making his dealings with Shangguan Yingxue particularly profitable 35.
- Recycles monster corpses into meat, hides, bones, and weapon materials 34 37.
Equipment & Items
Weapons
| Weapon | Properties and use |
|---|---|
| Sharpness-Enchanted Dagger — Level 2 | His first ascended item, created from the starter knife. Used to pry open the arsenal and its containers 1 3. |
| Blacklight Enchanted Pistol — Level 3 | Ascended from a Colt M1911. Converts a loaded bullet into an armor-piercing round for two stamina; later becomes Ebony 7 38. |
| Ebony — Level 6 | Generates a black armor-piercing round for one spirit, a white explosive round for one stamina, or a combined round for ten of each. Its Heavenly Predator enchantment absorbs life from kills to heal injuries and restore stamina and spirit 38. |
| Fine Marksman Rifle — Level 2 | More than doubles the original rifle’s bullet power. Ye Qiyan later considers it less useful after gaining Gunfire Judgment and trades one away 8 24. |
| Great Compassion Heavy Machine Gun — Level 6 | Purchased for eighteen Train Coins and assigned to the Security Sentry. Ascension adds a 500-round Mental Magazine alongside its original 300-round capacity 42 44. |
| Deceptive Play Sword — Level 6 | Gifted by Smiley. Ye Qiyan stores it rather than using it because its effect consumes his maximum Mental stat 42 44. |
| Mithril Holy Church Cross | Ascended from the cross found in Doomsday Town; destroys the spirit haunting Phantom Rain Manor 14 21. |
- Flower Dawn Enchanting Wooden Bow: Creates spirit-powered arrows with limited trajectory adjustment. Ye Qiyan makes it by ascending both a blueprint and its crafted product, then trades it to Shangguan Yingxue 35 36.
- Mithril weapons: Salvages crossbow bolts that deal triple damage to vampires and a ritual sword that inflicts wounds vampires cannot heal 14.
Protection and Utility
- Ascended bulletproof vest: Retains the protection of the Advanced Ceramic Plate Bulletproof Vest in a less cumbersome form; cushions the shopkeeper monster’s blow 13 14.
- Safety Wristband: Can block one instance of fatal damage before shattering 23.
- 2×2 Safety Box — Level 9: Shaya’s gift. Cannot be broken or forced open from outside; once placed, only its owner can move it 30.
- Golden Critical Hit Card — Level 6: Costs 20 mental energy to multiply the next attack’s power fiftyfold. Has three uses 32.
- Lightning Wolfskin Boots: Crafted from the Lightning-Fast White Wolf’s hide. Their listed effect costs 20 spirit to increase attack, casting, and movement speed by 50% for ten seconds; consecutive activations double the spirit cost 38.
- Ever-Accurate Pocket Watch — Level 5: Keeps accurate time regardless of time or space 32.
- Ice Vein Pearl — Level 3: Freezes water and manipulates its shape. An ice sword he creates with it shatters at a touch 36.
- Don Quixote’s wooden shield: A token of their alliance, accompanied by Don Quixote’s promise to assist him against dangers he cannot handle 49.
Blasphemy Card · VII · Anchor
Ye Qiyan acquires his first fragment from a Level 4 chest, receives another third from Shaya, and finds the final third at the eighth station. Combining them produces dark-gold radiance and overwhelming whispers before the completed card settles into his hand 23 28 50.
| Effect | Description |
|---|---|
| Drop Anchor | Consumes spirit to establish an anchor point. Supports up to three anchors and has a one-day cooldown 50. |
| Voyage | Consumes spirit to teleport to an anchor point 50. |
| Banishment | Removes every anchor point and forcibly banishes an enemy into the wilderness 50. |
| Return | Displays the incomplete description “consume all spirit???”; its actual result remains unknown 50. |
Train & Infrastructure
Systems and Defenses
- Leave Station VIP Privilege: Allows departure once the station countdown has three hours remaining 17.
- Red Triple-Speed Train Acceleration Device: Supports up to five acceleration-bullet uses daily, each tripling the train’s speed for ten minutes 12.
- System Binding Module: Binds the Train System to Ye Qiyan rather than the control base, enabling remote appraisal and status access 32.
- In-Station Startup Module: Allows him to drive the train within a platform for one Train Coin per hour 32.
- Guard Tower / Security Sentry: Provides automated armed defense. Its earlier warning-device description covers hostile threats within 100 meters and targeting that negates camouflage, invisibility, and illusions; the later sentry has nine weapon slots 10 44.
- Watcher: An additional defensive device whose Ascension grants an illusory enchantment; Ye Qiyan initially does not know its full effectiveness 33.
- Pure Purification Stone — Level 5: Keeps the train’s interior pure and protects it from filth and evil intrusion. Evolved from the skull left by the manor’s spirit 21 22 44.
Carriages and Supplies
- Storage Unit Carriage — Level 3: Contains 51 unlimited-capacity units that preserve their contents; cannot store living beings. Three units provide retrieval from anywhere 16.
- Planting Carriage: His third carriage. Offers accelerated plant growth and six adjustable sections with individual temperature and humidity controls. A Smart Chip can automate agricultural tasks 46 47.
- Refined Water Purifier — Level 2: Purifies three kilograms hourly, including non-freshwater 11.
- Low-level Water Tank: Holds 1,000 kilograms of water in separate clean- and dirty-water compartments 6.
- Power Generator · Enchanted Omnivore — Level 3: Generates electricity from resources including metal, wood, coal, and oil 24.
- Blessed Whiteforest Fruit Tree: Rapidly matured with an ascended plant elixir, producing fifty-five fruits without the original fruit’s side effects 26.
- Luxury Sweet Dream Bed: Purchased after the Level 4 train upgrade to improve comfort and recovery 39.
- Train Space Enhancement and Train Anywhere Door: Purchased among the Level 4 upgrade options 39.
Relationships
- WALL-E — His recycling robot and a major source of treasure chests. Ye Qiyan repeatedly credits it for finds he would otherwise have missed 13 15 35 38.
- Shangguan Yingxue — Recurring trading partner who supplies water, a purifier, gunpowder, and other items. He appreciates her direct communication and considers their trades especially profitable 7 11 24 35 36.
- Li Xiaosheng — Early customer and would-be alliance leader. Ye Qiyan rejects his recruitment proposals and eventually removes him from his friends list 5 19 23 33.
- Zhao Lin — Trading contact who sells him a mechanical fishing rod, requests firearms and repair materials, and later shares a photograph of the dangerous trading station 19 23 42 46.
- Shaya — Veteran conductor who initially prevents his escape from Miling Town, then provides information, a card fragment, upgrade materials, healing candy, and a Level 9 safe. Ye Qiyan remains wary of her strength but sincerely appreciates her assistance 28 29 30 31.
- Tina — Girl in Miling Town who welcomes him as the expected prosecutor. He gives her fruit during their meeting and ten blessed fruits before parting 26 27 30.
- Smiley — Cursed former conductor who gives him the Deceptive Play Sword and asks to be killed someday. Ye Qiyan promises to help free him when they meet again 42 44.
- Don Quixote — Becomes his allied knight after Ye Qiyan encourages and assists him against the giants. Gives him a shield and promises future aid 48 49.
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Station: Armory
Ye Qiyan chooses weapons over other possible first-stop resources. He scavenges rifles, ammunition, rations, and water, then ascends a document envelope found beneath a skeleton into a Level 2 treasure chest. Its rewards help establish both his personal armament and recycling infrastructure 2 3.
Selling the haul gives him the metal needed for his first carriage and establishes him as an arms supplier among the survivors 5 6 7.
Second and Third Stations: White Forest and Doomsday Town
In White Forest, the fruit’s hallucinogenic fragrance nearly tricks him into eating it raw. Learning its processing method turns the dangerous discovery into a source of mental-energy recovery 9.
At Doomsday Town, he takes over a dead RUN Company courier’s cake delivery. The recipient attacks him as a monster, forcing him to rely on his armor-piercing pistol. A diary mentioning a ruined locomotive prompts him to question whether earlier groups of conductors preceded his own 13 14.
His train survives the monsters drawn back by WALL-E, then departs as the Newbie Protection Period ends and Survival Mode begins 15.
Fourth Station: Phantom Rain Manor
Posing as a sheriff and part-time priest, Ye Qiyan investigates the manor’s rainy-night deaths. His holy cross destroys its haunting spirit, lifting the seal. He collects fresh provisions while leaving enough for the two surviving inhabitants, and takes the spirit’s remains back to his train 21 22.
Fifth Station: Miling Town
Tina leads him to Shaya, whose knowledge of conductors and interest in the Blasphemy Card trigger his attempted escape. After she demonstrates that he cannot overpower her, their encounter shifts into an exchange of information and gifts 26 27 28 29.
He fulfills Shaya’s request to burn the abandoned town before leaving. His subsequent attempt to push a treasure chest beyond Level 4 leads him to ascend his own talent and collapse 30 31.
Sixth Station: Hope Valley
Ye Qiyan awakens at an extremely dangerous Level 4 Slaughter Platform with his talent successfully changed. He strengthens his defenses, recycles monster corpses, and sells materials while managing ammunition shortages 32 33 34 35.
When the Lightning-Fast White Wolf enters his defensive perimeter, he activates the sentry’s Overlimit Mode. It kills the wolf and hundreds of following monsters, allowing him to harvest the remains before departing 37.
Seventh Station: Public Trading Platform
Arriving with a Level 4 train, Ye Qiyan astonishes Smiley by reaching the trading area so early in his journey. He purchases the heavy machine gun, receives Smiley’s sword, and leaves after promising to help him 41 42 44.
He later receives the first-place Newcomer Survival Incentive for reaching the Public Trading Platform first 46.
Eighth Station: Knight’s Plains
Ye Qiyan discovers that Don Quixote’s supposed windmills really are giants under shifting conditions of perception. He encourages the knight to return to battle and supports his charge with Ebony. After their victory over thirty-four giants, he salvages the fading bodies for materials and Illusory Crystals 48 49.
Before departure, he gathers wheat and combines the final Blasphemy Card fragment with the two already in his possession, completing VII · Anchor 50.
Notable Quotes
“Nothing’s wrong. God was just feeling hungry and asked me to bring back some food. That’s all right, isn’t it?” 21
“No. Curiosity killed the cat. I’m not a man who’s all that curious about other people’s secrets.” 28
Trivia
- He names Ebony after a gun wielded by a protagonist in a game he once played, noting its resemblance to his newly transformed pistol 38.
- His contact notes for Shaya include “Big golden retriever”; after discovering the value of her gift, he changes her note to “beautiful and kindhearted” 30.
- Once survival becomes more comfortable, he spends resources on clean clothes, toiletries, and a bath rather than limiting purchases to necessities 47.
