Geography and Nature

Infinite Expanse

  • The Wasteland contains an immeasurable number of powerful beings and worlds. Even a race’s apex cannot affect every part of it 1161 1164.
  • Each Train Conductor normally travels through their own Wasteland road, with only their own train present. This isolation makes meetings and lasting friendships particularly valuable 1383.
  • These individual expanses are not completely insulated: battles between sufficiently powerful beings can devastate regions occupied by others 1164.
  • A person’s Wasteland road can also provide concealment. Zhuxing Tu describes Yu Jiuquan’s road as somewhere almost no one can reach if he wishes to hide 1208.

Ground and Sky

  • When Ye Qiyan first steps outside his train, he finds yellow dust, distant churning mist, and ground material that resembles soil but is actually ash. Appraisal identifies it as the Ashes of the Wasteland God 216.
  • The sun, Eternal Moon, and starry sky are all part of the Wasteland. Nevertheless, inhabitants distinguish between the starry sky and the ground-level Wasteland when discussing territory and power 1143 1161.
  • The same Wasteland Sun is visible to Train Conductors from their separate roads 1142.

Desolate Realms

Desolate Realm is the collective term for worlds established within the Wasteland by the apexes of Wasteland Species. They may also be called True God Realms 1135.

  • Establishing a realm exposes its creator to struggles over authority. Weakened rulers risk being devoured by stronger beings 1161.
  • A race’s apex is not necessarily a dominant power in the wider Wasteland. Flashstar’s recollections distinguish ordinary racial supremacy from the strength required to maintain a Desolate Realm that continually moves forward 1164.
  • The Trade Star becomes a fragile boundary between a world and the Wasteland, comparable to a weak Desolate Realm. Its exposed position attracts monsters and gods seeking Wasteland authority 1135.

Travel and Survival Rules

Trains and Platforms

Mechanic Details
Leaving a Platform World Trains pass through the void and return to the Wasteland, with tracks extending for their departure 709 1535.
End of newcomer protection After all conductors leave the tenth platform, newcomer protection ends, daily weather variation begins, and several multiplayer and trading functions unlock 64.
Minimum speed At the end of newcomer protection, trains traveling below 60 kilometers per hour enter a danger state 64.
Expanded stopping privileges Reaching twenty-four hours of stopping time allows a conductor to choose when to enter the next station within three days of departure, enter and leave cities freely, and stop in the Wasteland 95.
Wasteland Rest Ye Qiyan’s documented uses provide a one-hour stop. Pursuing monsters still attack the stationary train, requiring active defenses 216 242.
Imaginary Number Navigation This Platform World travel method can be used once per stop. Reuse at the next stop requires returning to the Wasteland and waiting twelve Wasteland hours 546 657.
Travel without a train Crossing the sea of void into the Wasteland is beyond the unaided physical capabilities of most conductors. The Seven Worlds require millennia of research to locate it and develop limited teleportation 1369.

Time and Forward Movement

  • Wasteland Time serves as a reference for journeys, cooldowns, and the differing time flows of Platform Worlds 657 1313.
  • Time ratios vary considerably. More than a month in Wings of the Sun amounts to less than an hour in the Wasteland, while another documented world has a 1:1 ratio 1207 1313.
  • According to Zhong Mojing, the Train System prevents time and space in the Wasteland from moving backward. He also states that the God of Time was annihilated 439.
  • Reincarnation has likewise been eradicated by the Train System, and the Reincarnation Gate destroyed. The Source of the Reincarnation Spring consequently loses all its restorative and reincarnation functions 1153.
  • A system message states that everything in the Wasteland must continue moving forward and must not stagnate 409.

Growth and Protection

  • Advancing conductors obtain materials, high-level items, and upgrade options unavailable to those who stagnate. Crafting also depends on resources brought back by travelers 696.
  • The Train System permits conductors to choose lower-level platforms and continues to recognize and protect cities that shelter weaker people 837.
  • Protection does not guarantee rescue. During the Wind trial, the system seals the world and alters its time flow but requires the participants to overcome the disaster themselves 489.
  • Certain victories grant the Wasteland’s blessing, strengthening the recipient’s strongest or most proficient ability or authority. Ye Qiyan receives increased mental power after defeating Ladirien 1048.

Environment and Hazards

Weather

Extreme weather normally changes every twenty-four Wasteland hours. Its effects can reach Platform Worlds, although some phenomena are restricted to the Wasteland itself 150 170 1207.

Phenomenon Documented effects
Fire Tornadoes Ravage the Wasteland before disappearing with the next day’s clear weather 150.
Gray Fog Envelops trains, obscures the moon, and plunges the surroundings into darkness and silence. It can initiate a dream trial testing a conductor’s mental resolve 170.
Super Tornado Appears as an immense wall-like storm beyond the horizon 471.
Wind of the End Sweeps through Solo City from every direction, cutting exposed people, carrying debris, and disrupting combat 489 490.
Snowstorms Force numerous conductors to shelter in cities and suspend platform exploration for several days 1059.
The Wasteland Sun’s End Produces enormous falling masses of flame and creates fire elementals. The End sweeping the Trade Star vanishes when the Eternal Moon rises and the sun sinks 1142 1143.
Super! Super! Superstorm! An ultra-extreme weather condition affecting the Wasteland during Ye Qiyan’s later travels 1511.

Sun and Eternal Moon

  • Zhuxing Tu describes the sun and moon as equal existences, though the moon is far gentler. Most Wasteland Species choose to travel at night 1143.
  • Miatila describes the Eternal Moon as illuminating every inch of the Wasteland’s nights 779.
  • During the Utopia conflict, the Wasteland is divided between scorching daylight and cold moonlit night. Advancing trains are enveloped in moonlight, shielding them from the burning sun 930.

Monsters and Catastrophes

  • Monsters continually pursue trains and swarm them when they stop 150 216.
  • Ye Qiyan discovers both anatomically ordinary monsters and specimens with empty, heartless bodies. Death Omen reveals that some of the attacking creatures are already dead 216.
  • Permanent damage is possible: Ye Qiyan’s Dimensional Strangulation leaves a lasting scar of torn and distorted space above the ground 1054.
  • Settlements built directly in the Wasteland must contend with extreme weather, emerging monsters, insect forces, neighboring realms, and the possibility of being caught in battles between Transcenders 1553 1590.

Inhabitants and Settlements

Wasteland Species

Wasteland Species vary enormously in intelligence, strength, and form; a shared designation does not imply comparable power 216 1164.

Group or being Connection to the Wasteland
Blade Jackals and Sand Elementals Monsters encountered during Ye Qiyan’s first excursion outside his train 216.
Dream Eaters A powerful race whose members can assist Ye Qiyan by becoming straight tracks through the reward A Great Dream 1057.
Wind An apex whose destructive End threatens Solo City. After its defeat, control of Wasteland wind remains with the Train System 494 495.
Flashstar Clan Inhabits the starry sky. Its apex previously established a Desolate Realm, only to lose it to the aftermath of a battle between stronger beings 1164.
Beasts of Evolution Silver Race creations found among Wasteland Species; documented examples include the Plunder Beast and Six-Flower Beast 968 1317.
Imaginary Number beings Some dwell in Imaginary Number Space and can guide trains through it as navigators 546.
Coldness An apex of the Wasteland Species whose attention is drawn by Ladirien’s destruction 1044.

New races are born continually, and not every race’s apex possesses authority or the power of The End 1164.

Human Cities

Cities provide permanent homes rather than merely temporary stops. Some conductors treat platform expeditions as paid guild work, saving their earnings to purchase property and residency 1021.

  • Heavenly Realm Organization — Known for helping the weak, rescuing people without payment, and advocating for indigenous residents of human cities 1060.
  • Homecomers — Include people seeking a return to their former homes; their goals are not identical to those who simply want stability 192 1553.
  • Order Heaven — A human realm established directly in the Wasteland. Its Absolute Order Force and additional 100% spirit recovery speed offer a resting place, though its location exposes it to continuing crises 1304.
  • Martial Might City — Becomes the central military hub for Order Heaven’s advancing front, expanding human territory as it moves forward 1594.

Gods and System Enforcement

The Wasteland is dangerous even for divine beings. The Train System can judge and erase gods brought within its jurisdiction 323 843.

  • Demon Flower God is banished into the Wasteland by Ye Qiyan’s Anchor. The system then erases its body, consciousness, and existence 323.
  • Troll God is judged and erased despite an attempted intervention by the Void 843.
  • Ladirien is pursued across worlds by Judgment Enforcer’s chains, while the system denies his attempt to escape 1044.

Major Events

Ye Qiyan’s First Exploration

After unlocking Wasteland Rest, Ye Qiyan steps off his train for the first time. He examines the ash beneath his feet, dissects attacking monsters, and carves “Was here~” into a rock before returning aboard 216.

Defeat of Wind and the Special Deployment

The defeat of Wind ends its control over the Wasteland’s wind. The system retains that authority and forces Fengfeng to restart as a level-one conductor, with the possibility of eventually obtaining Transcendent Wind 494 495.

Following a bargain between Death and Gray Fog, a special batch of one million conductors is scheduled to enter ten days later. Its members include Death as Mo Shi, Fengfeng, Smiley, and other beings possessing humanity or a human concept 495.

Revelation of the Wasteland’s End

During the Flashstar battle, Ye Qiyan successfully activates Dreamweaver after another being unleashes an End. Because Dreamweaver ordinarily works only in worlds that have already ended, this reveals that the Wasteland had long since reached its own end 1161.

The mechanism remains unresolved. Ye Qiyan questions why Dreamweaver cannot normally activate there and considers whether it does not recognize the Wasteland as a single complete world. The Ancient Battlefield’s traces subsequently fade, leaving the Wasteland outwardly unchanged 1162 1163.

Establishment of Order Heaven

After nearly ten Wasteland days of fighting and billions of deaths, Order Heaven descends as a realm belonging to humanity. Tens of thousands of conductors and numerous Extraordinaries contribute, while the Train System neither intervenes nor imposes quests, authorities, or restrictions 1304.

Later, Martial Might City becomes the hub of the campaign against the remaining insect forces, and Order Heaven’s victory is effectively secured 1594.
