Power Progression
Train Level determines important system unlocks and rank distinctions, but does not reliably measure combat strength. Abilities, upgrade choices, equipment, and accumulated gains can outweigh level differences 130 483 888.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Newbie Train Conductor — Level 1 | 1 495 | Documented starting level for Ye Qiyan and Smiley. Newcomers receive a train and begin their station journey. |
| Level 15 milestone | 532 | Includes a fixed upgrade selection that next appears at Level 20; this level’s selections are not strengthened or weakened by the conductor’s experiences. |
| Outstanding Train Conductor — Level 20 | 755 | The system describes Ye Qiyan as an “outstanding Train Conductor” upon reaching this level. |
| Senior Train Conductor — Level 30 | 888 1175 | The ordinary dividing line between ordinary and Senior Train Conductors. System Binding becomes available through the standard progression, and a train-armament branch core is guaranteed. Ye Qiyan also receives A True Train Conductor. |
| Top-Level recognition — Level 40 exception | 1596 | Ye Qiyan is recognized as Top-Level after qualifying to consistently enter Level 12 Platform Worlds, despite being below the broadly defined Level 45 benchmark. His train also gains suppression against external enemies inside its carriages. |
| Broad Top-Level benchmark — Level 45 | 1596 | Identified by the Train System as the broadly defined level of a Top-Level Train Conductor, rather than an absolute requirement for recognition. |
Becoming a Train Conductor
Summoned Batches
- Regular recruitment: Shaya states that new survivors appear every three years. Altos describes a regular intake of 180 million humans, with roughly 80–90% eliminated during the ten basic stops 29 130.
- Separate routes: Conductors ordinarily travel through their own Wastelands. Meeting another train is not normally possible unless regional population conditions permit it 29.
- Blocks and identification: Summoned newcomers receive identifying information such as a block-based number. Ye Qiyan’s initial ID is E-3-1102 1.
- Population mergers: The system announces a merger when E-3 Block is about to fall below 2,000 conductors 38.
Native Applicants
Native inhabitants can obtain the status by purchasing a locomotive and passing an assessment. A basic locomotive costs 100 Train Coins; one account gives the assessment a success rate of only one in five hundred 108.
- Buying a locomotive without a special invitation does not grant the Newbie Ten Stations, their associated protection protocol, a block, a conductor number, or a Public Chatroom 567.
- In Martial Might City, locomotives are not sold locally. Residents can instead earn access through military merit or guild contributions, which may be inherited by descendants 1021.
- Family support can substantially alter the starting conditions. Glanz Magnus owned a train from childhood, and his parents supplied materials that brought it to Level 15 before his intended Wasteland departure 580.
Special Invitations and Admissions
- Newcomer Invitation: A system permission allows its holder to invite someone into the full newcomer route. Ye Qiyan uses this opportunity for Chloe 567 568.
- Additional batch: The system prepares a special intake of one million conductors, including humanoid beings and beings possessing the concept of humanity 495.
- Second chances: Fengfeng observes that many members of this special batch are former failures, including beings who previously served gods or emperors 535.
- Exceptional entrants: Death negotiates admission under the name Mo Shi, while Delusion later begins her own journey aboard the No-Thought 495 1463.
Journey and Survival
Stations and Platform Worlds
- Conductors select destinations and enter Platform Worlds through spatial transitions. The train interface displays the station, remaining stopping time, and a danger assessment 2.
- The first beginner station has a safety guarantee, but environmental hazards can still kill participants. From the second station onward, trains are no longer guaranteed to stop in safe areas 6.
- Stopover time is normally fixed once increased. Ye Qiyan’s abnormal extension beyond the novice limit temporarily removes further stop-duration upgrades from his available options 47.
- Trading Platforms provide purchasing opportunities tied to the conductor’s current Train Level 38.
- Platform activities include survival, combat, puzzles, team trials, and competitive events. A Level 11 competition places seven conductors in a contest involving the protection of their summoned Wishers 544 1113 1213.
Nighttime Survival
- Nighttime threats make train speed and maintenance essential. Before one survival event, the system warns that conductors with trains below Level 2 will die 38.
- Damage reduces a train’s speed, requiring prompt repairs with materials 38.
- Remaining aboard indefinitely is not a reliable solution: conductors who refuse to explore still need food, water, and upgrade resources 10.
Trials and Commissions
Platform inhabitants can spend Train Coins to summon conductors and establish trials or commissions. Altos describes a system-recognized quest as a transaction whose terms bind its issuer 131.
- A summons does not guarantee rescue. Russell’s home world was abandoned and plundered by some of the conductors called to defend it 153.
- Conductors can themselves be assigned to administer trials. Ye Qiyan receives a quest worth 21 Train Coins to create a traitor-finding trial for seven incoming conductors 301.
Abilities and System Benefits
Personal Interface
The system records a conductor’s identity, train ownership, condition, abilities, Talents, and modules 1.
- Sanity: Ye Qiyan’s initial interface lists increasingly severe mental effects as Sanity falls 1.
- Stamina: Recovers through eating or resting; depletion causes severe lethargy 1.
- System Binding: Transfers the system’s bound target from the train control base to the conductor. Ye Qiyan obtains it unusually early through a treasure chest 32.
- Status monitoring: System-bound conductors can inspect personal effects that others may fail to recognize, including the emotional interference used in Uto City 900.
Train Upgrades
Train upgrades improve fundamental components such as the frame, chassis, wheels, and Processing Table, while unlocking purchasable upgrade options 2 127.
- Ordinary upgrades require resources and increasingly specialized materials 17 88 127.
- Options can include personal enhancements, blueprints, installations, armaments, expanded carriage space, or system permissions 17 275 469 695.
- Some selections respond to the conductor’s journey, needs, and Train Coin holdings. Others are fixed or standard selections 206 426 532 999.
- Continued exploration is central to development. Wealth accumulated while remaining in a city does not substitute for the recognition and opportunities gained through advancing across Platform Worlds 206.
- At Levels 55–59, purified True God · Authority Cores can serve as train-upgrade materials 1308.
Talents
Talents are possessed by only a small minority of conductors. Resource Radar is described as the most common among known Talents 67.
- A Talent is not required for conductor status; ordinary low-level conductors may fight with conventional guns or crossbows 302.
- Talents can change through their holder’s convictions and development, as described in the account of a Resource Radar user who eventually gained control over its power 1054.
- The Train System states that it cannot understand conductors’ Talents or explain their operation 1013.
- Ye Qiyan’s Ascension is an individual Talent, not an ability shared by all Train Conductors 1.
Enhancement Modules
| Module | Documented effect |
|---|---|
| Gunfire Judgment | Grants firearm proficiency and allows mental energy to enhance a bullet according to the target’s sins 18. |
| Sky-Seizing Wings | Provides firearm-related passive abilities and permits stamina-powered repositioning to an ideal firing location when shooting 275. |
| Heart Slash | Enhances perception without vision and enables a slash using the heart as the user’s eyes 450. |
| Severance Domain · Rhythmic Tone | Seals an area of spacetime and adjusts its internal time flow from zero to one thousand times normal, at substantial Spirit cost 656. |
| All Aboard, Assemble! | Once per day, sends companions an assembly notification that grants rapid disengagement and movement. It cannot assemble companions trapped in sealed spaces 952. |
Train Armaments and Mobility
- Trains can become independent fighting platforms equipped with drills, shields, mines, artillery, and airspace-control weapons 847.
- In-Station Startup permits driving within a station at a cost of one Train Coin per hour 32.
- Booster Derailment permits one hour of movement off the tracks for 100 Train Coins, with a twenty-four-hour cooldown 450.
- A purchased Turbine initially gives Ye Qiyan’s train thirty minutes of flight at an enormous electricity cost 888.
- Level 30 progression offers specialization in flight, land, ocean, or starry-sky travel. Ye Qiyan receives an exceptional complete set covering all four 888 1177.
System Permissions and Protection
- Permissions can provide benefits such as cross-world communication through Time-Flow Synchronization, but advanced permissions are expensive 426 469.
- The Train Conductor Protection Protocol restricts excessive outside interference. During Ye Qiyan’s Level 20 upgrade, the system prohibits intervening forces from exceeding the permitted maximum 755.
- Protection is not unconditional safety. Alfred’s Talent creates a death duel that seals information and privileges and prevents escape 480.
- Opposing system authorities can cancel or override one another; System Authority · Silence can disable system functions within its effective area 1389.
Society and Reputation
Privilege and Exploitation
In some cities, children are taught that Train Conductors stand above everyone else. Residents aspire either to serve them as Train Assistants or to earn enough to become conductors themselves 67 108.
Altos states that the system prioritizes conductors’ growth over native lives and does not punish them simply for killing or robbing platform inhabitants. He contrasts this freedom with the absolute restrictions imposed on former conductors 132.
- Sky Garden’s Stages use abducted Platform World inhabitants as tools for conductors’ entertainment and abuse 315.
- Earlier conductors can monopolize upgrade resources and force newcomers into subordinate positions 84.
- Reputation varies sharply by world: Trade Star’s inhabitants welcome a powerful conductor as their hope of salvation, while inhabitants of Sun Wings’ Divine Kingdom remember visiting conductors as destructive outsiders 1156 1200.
Native–Outsider Conflict
RUN Company supplies native couriers with locomotives so they can compete with outsider conductors. Its replacement permissions allow couriers to take platform business normally reserved for conductors 152.
- Russell’s hatred originates in the abandonment and plunder of his home world by summoned conductors 153.
- A Substitute Rights Cube extends replacement access to Level 4–7 platforms for thirty days 152.
- The conflict is not a strict division between powerless natives and powerful outsiders: native inhabitants can become powerful conductors, while weak conductors can themselves be enslaved or killed 837.
- Russell later expresses a desire for Train Conductors and Indigenous People to live together harmoniously 978.
Cities, Companions, and Friendship
Some conductors treat platform expeditions as paid guild work, saving their earnings to purchase property and permanent city residency rather than living aboard their trains 1021.
- Solitary travel encourages conductors to manufacture, contract, or otherwise acquire companions 480.
- Genuine friendships are particularly valuable because conductors rarely meet others in their personal Wastelands and are reluctant to trust 1383.
- Betrayal still occurs: the original Altos was forced to remain inside a platform after being backstabbed 1383.
- During Uto City’s crisis, stranded conductors briefly overcome their isolation, pooling weapons, defenses, and Train Coins to resist together 910.
Historical Developments
- Early generations: Lu Cangxiao identifies himself as a first-generation Human Train Conductor and claims to be one of only eleven remaining. Ye Qiyan privately notes that Smiley has concealed himself successfully 1144.
- Accelerated growth: Fan Huo observes that newer conductors develop faster than earlier generations, prompting previously secluded veterans to resume traveling 391.
- Special newcomer losses: Despite unusually capable entrants and cross-block team trials, the additional million-person batch loses 470,000 conductors within its first three stops, according to the statistics Fengfeng reports 544.
- Uto City crisis: Powerful residents prevent visiting conductors from retrieving their trains, using lethal force and mental interference to trap them 900.
- Growing external threats: Ye Qiyan later observes faster leveling alongside increasing danger from False Gods and the Insect Race 1397.
Notable Holders
| Holder | Significance |
|---|---|
| Ye Qiyan | Holder of Ascension; reaches Level 40 and receives explicit Top-Level recognition from the system 1 1596. |
| Shaya | Veteran whose train is above Level 50 when Ye Qiyan considers her knowledge of earlier batches 56. |
| Altos | Entered twenty-seven years before Ye Qiyan and reports a Level 27 train; later described as a former conductor subject to system restrictions 130 132. |
| Alfred | Native Vampire who becomes a Top-Level Train Conductor without having changed race 482. |
| Smiley / Forgotten | Receives recognition as human and joins the special additional batch as conductor A-9-4931 495. |
| Mo Shi | Identity adopted by Death after negotiating access to the Train System 495. |
| Fengfeng | Former Wasteland wind selected to start over as a newcomer 535. |
| Ding Xiuqi | Level 41 conductor with twelve years of continuous advancement 515. |
| Russell | Native conductor and RUN Company member who later becomes its boss 153 829. |
| Lu Cangxiao / Mr. Order | Self-identified first-generation Human Train Conductor 1144. |
| Delusion | Begins the Newbie Ten Stations with her own unusual train, the No-Thought 1463. |
Losing or Abandoning the Status
- Selling a locomotive can mean surrendering Train Conductor status. A Train Exchange employee explicitly describes such a sale as voluntary relinquishment 108.
- Former conductors may face restrictions that do not apply to active holders; Altos describes his own situation in these terms 132.
- Zhou Shangqing uses Escapist permission to abandon his train and enter a Platform World. His later interface shows an invalid Train Conductor ID 876 881.
