Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Beginning cultivation 1 9 Began studying under Chen Yihua at age six; had cultivated for eighteen years by age twenty-four.
Minor attainment of Meridian Opening 44 Retrospectively recalls Chen Yihua renting an Azure Cloud Island cultivation chamber to help him reach this milestone six or seven years earlier.
Major attainment / great completion of Meridian Opening 9 23 Reached major attainment before killing Daoist Mu. Subsequent cultivation and the battle opened additional meridians; the Jade Register later records great completion.
Heavy Mountain Halberd Technique — consummate mastery 25 Achieved after more than ten years of practice; shattered a large boulder with the final move.
Perfection of Meridian Opening 33 Used Essence Origin Pills and Red Ginseng Pills to open his final meridian. True qi thereafter circulated automatically, strengthening and purifying his body.
Perfection of Essence Origin 35 Had completed this prerequisite for Spirit Attraction while continuing to study Daoist Script to strengthen his mind.
Perfection of Spirit Origin 54 Reached the sixth section of Daoist Script after repeatedly eating spirit fish and cultivating beside Jade Pearl Spring. Completed the hardest of the Spirit Drawing Three Barriers.
Early Spirit Attraction / Spirit Drawing 56 57 68 Broke through the Baihui acupoint, developed divine sense, and transformed true qi into dharma power. The breakthrough was nearly fatal.
Minor accomplishment of Spirit Drawing 72 Opened the final required aperture less than a year after entering the stage, aided by his accumulated foundation, a spirit vein, and Spirit Bee Honey.
Body refinement — sixth level 112 Reached this level in eight months. Tempered all 206 bones, completed seven qi-and-blood refinements, and more than doubled his physical strength. Had opened seventy-five apertures.
Great accomplishment of Spirit Drawing 113 Confirmed before his duel with Qin Wuya; paired substantial dharma power with advanced body refinement.
Conversion to the Wu Earth Profound Spirit Treasure Art 125 Switching cultivation arts purified his dharma power and more than doubled its quantity.
Fortune-assisted enlightenment 127 Half a month of enlightenment enlarged his dantian, meridians, and apertures, increasing dharma power by at least sixty percent. Its improved purity accelerated aperture opening.
Body refinement — perfection of Spirit Drawing 133 Confirmed retrospectively when his physical body underwent further transformation during his Dao Foundation breakthrough.
Early Dao Foundation — superior-grade foundation 133 At fifty-two, in Yuangguang year 5520, consumed four Crimson Sun Spirit Pills and grasped the earth-and-mountain artistic conception. Divine sense reached approximately 220 zhang.
Dao Foundation — second layer cultivation 141 151 Began filling the second tier of his foundation; later approached its completion following the snapping turtle demon battle.
Dao Foundation — third-layer peak 160 Reached the peak after a year of cultivation supported by ample spirit stones, particularly those taken from Qingli Rogue.
Middle Dao Foundation — fourth layer 160 Refined an infant-fist-sized piece of Wu Earth Essence. The breakthrough strengthened his meridians and body, with the remaining essence filling roughly half the fourth tier.

Background / History

Zhao Yi came from another world, where an accident caused him to become an infant in the cultivation world. The Tide-Subduing Sect took him away at six; because of his poor aptitude, Chen Yihua later brought him to Linghua Island to cultivate. His previous-life memories returned in fragments after he began training 1 9.

Chen Yihua raised Zhao Yi, Liu Yu, and Wang Qing on an impoverished mortal island without a spirit vein. Their master reserved cultivation resources for his disciples, forgoing pills and spirit rice other than Jade Essence Rice. Zhao Yi regarded him as both teacher and father 1 33.

Zhao Yi blamed himself for Chen Yihua’s death during a demon-cultivator attack on Azure Cloud Island: his attempt to obtain dead cultivators’ storage bags had drawn them into danger. Afterward, he cultivated intensely while facing Daoist Mu’s covetous attention 9 33.

Following Daoist Mu’s defeat, a speck of light merged into Zhao Yi. Initially afraid of possession, he discovered the long-awaited supernatural aid he had sought since his early cultivation years: the Sect Jade Register 5 23.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall, heavily built, and extraordinarily strong from childhood; initially described as having a dark, sturdy body 1 10 49.
  • Height: Grew from eight chi and one cun to eight chi and three cun during his Dao Foundation breakthrough 133.
  • Clothing: Has worn a sky-blue martial outfit, fitted black clothing, and Daoist robes 31 36 112.
  • Dao Foundation transformation: His accumulated scars fell away, leaving fair, smooth skin rich in spiritual power 133.

Personality

Zhao Yi is cautious about survival and reluctant to expose his full strength. He refuses reckless experiments, waits for weakened enemies when possible, and purchases concealment equipment specifically to stay alive. Even while helping defend Little Wave Island, he keeps his cultivation suppressed because he distrusts the Zhao Family 3 5 89 98.

His restraint gives way to ferocity when retreat is impossible or his junior brothers are threatened. He uses dangerous techniques, trades injuries for openings, and pursues attackers despite their attempts to negotiate. Against the cultivators who injured Wang Qing and Li Hai, he rejects a proposed withdrawal and kills them 22 98 119.

He is protective and demanding toward his lineage. He checks younger disciples’ schoolwork, imposes Daoist Script assignments, guards breakthrough attempts personally, and records his own advancement experiences as an inheritance. His grief over Chen Yihua’s death remains a powerful source of guilt 33 39 46 57 102.

Zhao Yi repays assistance while distinguishing gratitude from political trust. Zhao Xinghe’s breakthrough insights earn his repeated promises of support, but he remains alert to the Zhao Family’s attempts to bind other islands to its interests. His attention to cultivation also leaves him unaware of some internal cliques until Wang Qing explains them 83 126 141 150.

Abilities & Skills

Sect Jade Register

The register records Linghua’s lineage, cultivation information, spiritual roots, and fortune, while allowing Zhao Yi to distribute spendable fortune 23 25.

  • Fortune allocation: Raises his own fortune and that of registered companions; increases Wang Qing’s fortune before allocating the remaining points to himself 52.
  • Fortune acquisition: Gains fortune through defeated cultivators and personal realm breakthroughs 23 68 127.
  • Sect development: Learns that a stronger, more prosperous sect gathers fortune from its members, offering a safer long-term source than killing 68.
  • Observed benefits: Fortune above ten makes his thoughts more active and his body feel lighter. A later large allocation precedes a prolonged enlightenment 52 127.
  • Lineage registration: Has Liu Yu, Wang Qing, and Li Hai add essence blood to the register before enshrining it in the Ancestral Hall 25.
