Geography
- Regional position: Linghua lies in the southern Yunsha Sea Region, six hundred li from Little Wave Island 59 75.
- Terrain: Originally higher in the east and north, the island slopes downward from northeast to southwest 1.
- Linghua Mountain: The eastern mountain originally stands a little over one hundred zhang tall and is covered in ancient trees 1.
- River and farmland: A spring on Linghua Mountain feeds a river flowing south into the sea. Fertile land along its banks forms the islanders’ agricultural base 1.
- Southern harbor: A sheltered inlet protects vessels from storms. Around one hundred fishing boats ordinarily anchor there at the beginning of the story 1.
- Expansion potential: Zhao Yi’s later earth-vein work is intended to raise more land above sea level. By Chapter 162, the island is considered large enough to support at most a small spirit vein 138 162.
History
Foundation and Succession
Chen Changdao settled Linghua Island after answering the Tide-Subduing Sect’s Sea-Opening Decree. The decree encouraged rogue cultivators to occupy outer-sea islands by supplying artifacts, pills, spirit seeds, and mortal settlers. Chen received settlers and established a lineage that endured for roughly a century 1 14.
His disciples were Chen Yichong and Chen Yihua. After Chen Changdao’s death, Chen Yichong left because of the island’s difficult cultivation conditions. Chen Yihua remained, eventually accepting Zhao Yi, Liu Yu, and Wang Qing. Both the founder and his successor reached perfection of Meridian Opening, but neither advanced to Spirit Attraction 1 17 50.
Vulnerability and Early Expansion
Chen Yihua died protecting Zhao Yi during a demon-cultivator attack on Azure Cloud Island. Zhao Yi returned his ashes to Linghua’s surrounding waters, while the disciples concealed his death to discourage attacks. Daoist Mu’s repeated inquiries convinced Zhao Yi that their position was becoming unsafe, prompting a preemptive expedition to Jade Pearl Island 2.
Daoist Mu’s defeat gave the lineage a second island and access to additional recruits. Nevertheless, Zhao Yi described Linghua as being at its weakest point in a century after losing both Chen Yihua and Daoist Mu, whom outsiders had regarded as an associated cultivator 7 17.
Linghua also inherited Chen Yihua’s feud with Ghost Shark Daoist. Chen Yihua had attacked him for feeding mortals to ghost sharks, killed his disciples, and relocated Sea Shark Island’s surviving mortals to Linghua. Ghost Shark Daoist’s return alongside Three Heroes Island made that old conflict an immediate threat 30.
Emergence as a Regional Power
Three Heroes Island detained Liu Yu and Wang Qing at Little Wave Island’s trade fair and threatened the Linghua delegation. Newly advanced to Spirit Attraction, Zhao Yi intervened and killed Mo Wusheng. The confrontation ended with the Zhao Family apologizing and compensating Linghua Island and the other affected cultivators 59 60 61.
Subsequent expansion included the destruction of Kongqing Island’s ruling force and the relocation of its islanders. By June 5499, temporary housing for the newcomers occupied the drying grounds west of Linghua’s docks. Yuan Zifeng and his Dao companion were assigned to oversee Kongqing Island for ten years 66 68 70.
Daoist Liefeng’s Attack
On the sixth day of the seventh month, 5513, Daoist Liefeng attacked Linghua Island while Zhao Yi was secluded. With Zhao Xinghe mediating, Liu Yu, Wang Qing, and Li Hai agreed to endure one attack to settle the grievance over Qin Wuya’s death 130.
Liefeng’s golden tornado shattered the protective formation, devastated Linghua Mountain, and severely wounded all three defenders despite Guiwu’s assistance. Chen Yichong died in the attack’s remaining winds. Liu Yu organized recovery work, while Wang Qing took Guiwu to Jade Pearl Island and Wang Ping brought surviving disciples out of a hidden passage 130 134.
Recovery and Regional Leadership
After Zhao Yi formed his Dao Foundation, Linghua strengthened its formations, recruited additional disciples, and expanded its island settlements. By Chapter 161, its holdings comprised ten islands and sixty-three fourth-generation disciples 133 138 161.
The addition of two miniature spirit veins transformed its cultivation environment. As further Dao Foundation cultivators emerged, Linghua’s rivals increasingly treated it as the region’s strongest faction. During the later demon-cultivator crisis, Zhao Yi openly asserted that position; Daoist Liefeng apologized for his earlier attack and pledged that the Han Family would follow Linghua’s lead 163 164 167.

- Three Talents Spirit-Nourishing Formation: Maintains spirit fields and gradually improves their quality. Its principal anchors are earth-, wood-, and water-attribute spirit stones 8.
- Spring irrigation: The spring’s faint spiritual power makes the original rice harvest substantially more productive than the island’s thin ambient qi would otherwise allow 1.
- Spirit-Nurturing Powder: Demon-beast bones provide material for powder used in the island’s cultivation economy and field development 8 28.
- Founder’s jujube tree: Planted beside the spring by Chen Changdao; Zhao Yi later attempts to nurture it into a low-grade spirit plant 1 138.
Cultivation Legacy

- Spiritual Root Testing Platform: A Tide-Subduing Sect–issued artifact used to determine recruits’ spiritual-root quality 7 13.
