As Peter Parker swung through the city toward Osborn Tower, he saw a giant upright lizard in a white lab coat slaughtering people nearby.
The New York police's modest firepower could only throw up a few sparks against the Lizard Monster's scales. It could not hurt it at all.

The Lizard crawled out from a pile of shattered glass, shook his head, and fixed a cold stare on the costumed freak who had appeared before him.

After turning into a lizard, even Dr. Connors's voice had become cold and raspy.
"That's right, it's me." Peter Parker curled a finger at the Lizard. "Want an autograph?"

The Lizard dropped to all fours and swiftly scuttled up to Peter Parker with a reptilian gait. His sharp claws suddenly slashed at Peter's face.
"Whoa!" Peter dodged the incoming claws and fired webs at the Lizard as he rapidly said, "I don't like overly enthusiastic fans."
Webbing that had always worked wonders against ordinary criminals had little effect on the Lizard, with his smooth scales and immense strength. Unless Peter fired a large amount of webbing at once and completely bound him, the Lizard could easily break free.
