Arc 3Futures and Sword Force

Uchiha Gen helped Minato Namikaze destroy Iwagakure’s underground route and kill Roshi, while Tsunade returned to the war and Sunagakure attacked Konoha’s supplies. Back in Konoha, Gen learned of Uchiha Fugaku’s visions and trained with Hatake Sakumo, who revealed the power of sword force.

  • Tsunade entered Sage Mode in Shikkotsu Forest, learned that war had broken out, and set out for Konoha as Minato Namikaze brought Team 8 back from the Land of Grass.
  • Minato Namikaze, Shibi Aburame, and Uchiha Gen infiltrated Iwagakure’s lines, uncovered its plan to attack Konoha through underground tunnels, and collapsed the route with Explosive Tags.
  • The team fought Roshi and the Four-Tails, with Uchiha Gen killing Roshi after Minato Namikaze’s Flying Thunder God Technique saved them from the collapsing lava dimension.
  • Ōnoki learned that Roshi had died and the Four-Tails had escaped, while Hiruzen Sarutobi considered but rejected assassinating Uchiha Gen.
  • Sunagakure sent Ebizo’s Suicide Squad to attack Konoha’s supply convoy, but Might Duy defeated Ebizo before Minato Namikaze arrived and killed the remaining attackers.
  • Uchiha Gen returned to Konoha, where Hatake Sakumo discussed leaving the ninja life and later trained with him in swordsmanship.
  • Uchiha Fugaku used his Mangekyō Sharingan to show Uchiha Gen visions of the Uchiha Clan’s destruction and warned Minato Namikaze that Gen’s future had become difficult to see.
  • Uchiha Gen trained Gastly to draw chakra from the air, then sparred with Hatake Sakumo, who demonstrated Thunderclap and explained how sword force controlled power and intent within its domain.
Chapters 51–75 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 51Sage Mode

While Shikaku Nara struggled to contain Sunagakure’s poison attacks without Tsunade, Tsunade successfully entered Sage Mode in Shikkotsu Forest. She felt the immense power of the transformation as the battlefield still awaited her medical skills.

  • A messenger reported that Sunagakure had withdrawn its forces, but Konoha had suffered twenty-seven deaths, fifty-six severe injuries, and many poisoned shinobi.
  • Shikaku Nara learned that the medical corps could only slow most of Sunagakure’s new poisons and hoped Tsunade would return soon.
  • In Shikkotsu Forest, Katsuyu Sage observed that Tsunade was blending natural energy smoothly, possibly because she had awakened Wood Release.
  • Tsunade entered Sage Mode and recognized the enormous enhancement it gave her.

Ch. 52The Flying Thunder God Technique

Tsunade mastered Sage Mode and learned that war had broken out against Konoha, so she set out to return. Meanwhile, Minato transported Team 8 to a temporary outpost in the Land of Grass and suggested that Uchiha Gen learn the Flying Thunder God Technique, but Gen had no interest in pursuing it through Konoha.

  • Tsunade briefly entered Sage Mode, enhanced her Wood Release, and felt Hashirama Senju's chakra merge into her body.
  • Katsuyu Sage told Tsunade that war had broken out and Konoha was facing the other great shinobi villages, so Tsunade decided to return immediately.
  • Team 8 crossed into the Land of Grass, where Shibi Aburame summoned an insect to signal Minato Namikaze.
  • Minato arrived and teleported Team 8 to Konoha's temporary outpost, leaving Asuma Sarutobi and Kurenai Yuhi sick from the journey.
  • Minato noticed that Uchiha Gen felt no discomfort from teleportation and suggested he learn the Flying Thunder God Technique, but Gen dismissed the idea because he distrusted Konoha High Command.

Ch. 53Tailed Beasts

Minato Namikaze brought Uchiha Gen and the others to meet Jiraiya, who assigned Minato, Shibi Aburame, and Uchiha Gen a mission to infiltrate Iwagakure’s lines, gather intelligence, and sabotage supplies. Jiraiya warned Minato to flee if he encountered Iwagakure’s jinchūriki, while Uchiha Gen privately wondered what Jiraiya meant by the tailed beasts’ alternate dimensions.

  • Minato Namikaze explained that Iwagakure’s deployment of a jinchūriki had prompted Jiraiya to take command in the Land of Grass.
  • Asuma Sarutobi criticized Jiraiya, and Uchiha Gen quietly praised him for it.
  • Jiraiya told Minato Namikaze and Shibi Aburame to form a squad with Uchiha Gen and infiltrate Iwagakure’s lines to gather intelligence and destroy supply routes.
  • Jiraiya warned Minato Namikaze to escape immediately if he encountered Iwagakure’s jinchūriki, because the tailed beast could create an alternate dimension.
  • Minato Namikaze said he knew how formidable tailed beasts were, then fell silent, leaving Uchiha Gen puzzled by Jiraiya’s claim about alternate dimensions.

Ch. 54Believe it or not, you can't outplay me at being underhanded

Uchiha Gen, Minato Namikaze, and Shibi Aburame ambushed an Iwagakure supply squad deep in enemy territory. As the attack began, Gen revealed a newly acquired talent and saw his insects swiftly erase the evidence of the fight.

  • Jiraiya warned Minato Namikaze that Iwagakure’s two jinchūriki usually operated together and accepted responsibility for the mission’s consequences.
  • Uchiha Gen checked in and received the talent “False World, True Realm: Advance Body,” then smiled at the prospect of using it.
  • Minato Namikaze sensed an Iwagakure supply squad with at least four Jonin and planned a quick attack to avoid attracting reinforcements.
  • Minato used the Flying Thunder God Technique to switch Uchiha Gen and Shibi Aburame with the four resting Jonin, while Gen and Shibi attacked the squad.
  • Gen saw Kazzek kill Iwagakure ninja and tiny insects rapidly clean away bodies, blood, and other traces, then activated his Three-Tomoe Sharingan.

Ch. 55Control

Uchiha Gen and Minato Namikaze captured an Iwagakure Jonin and used Genjutsu to interrogate him about Iwagakure’s eastern-front plans. The interrogation revealed an underground flanking attack intended to cut off Konoha’s rear contacts, while the captured supplies were meant for the tunneling force.

  • Uchiha Gen used Susanoo Armor to kill the remaining Iwagakure Chunin, and Minato Namikaze arrived with the supplies.
  • Minato Namikaze took Uchiha Gen and their companion to an underground cave where he had captured and sealed an Iwagakure Jonin.
  • Uchiha Gen burned the Jonin’s soul with Yin Release Chakra, then placed him under Sharingan Genjutsu after Minato released the seal on his mouth.
  • Minato Namikaze questioned the Jonin, who revealed that Iwagakure planned to use underground tunnels to flank Konoha’s eastern-front encampment and sever its rear connections.
  • The Jonin disclosed that Explosion Release and Lava Release squads would lead the assault, while the delivered Explosive Tags could be used to collapse the tunnels if the surprise attack failed.

Ch. 56Explosive Tags

Minato Namikaze decided to destroy Iwagakure’s deep underground tunnel and reveal the team’s presence to draw enemy forces away from Konoha’s main battlefield. After Uchiha Gen and Shibi Aburame refused to leave him to face the danger alone, the team found a way to infiltrate the tunnel and began planning its destruction.

  • Minato Namikaze learned that Iwagakure’s tunnel lay twenty kilometers underground and decided to destroy it and expose the team’s presence.
  • Minato Namikaze explained that revealing his Flying Thunder God Technique could draw Iwagakure’s Jinchūriki away from the main battlefield, then proposed sending Shibi Aburame and Uchiha Gen back to safety.
  • Uchiha Gen and Shibi Aburame refused to abandon Minato Namikaze, and Minato apologized for underestimating their resolve.
  • Uchiha Gen and Minato Namikaze realized they could use the captured Iwagakure jōnin to solve the problem of infiltrating the tunnel.
  • Minato Namikaze found the confiscated Explosive Tags insufficient for destroying the tunnel, and Uchiha Gen offered to provide more through the Ninja Cat Clan.
  • Minato Namikaze asked whether Uchiha Gen had a contract with the Nekomata Clan and whether they could obtain a large batch of Explosive Tags.

Ch. 57Roshi

Minato Namikaze, Shibi Aburame, and Uchiha Gen destroyed Iwagakure’s underground tunnels with Explosive Tags. Roshi, the Four-Tails Jinchūriki, arrived as Minato tried to break through the chakra locking down the area and asked the others to hold him off.

  • Minato Namikaze transformed to disguise himself, while Shibi Aburame used insects to mimic the Iwagakure ninjas’ scents and Uchiha Gen copied a fallen Chunin.
  • The three entered the guarded tunnel after Uchiha Gen used his Sharingan to control a guard and make him open the stone gate.
  • Shibi Aburame placed insects throughout the underground passages, and Minato Namikaze used the Flying Thunder God Technique to retreat with the others before detonating the Explosive Tags.
  • The blasts collapsed the tunnels and buried the Iwagakure ninjas underground, destroying the secret excavation works.
  • Roshi rushed toward the group, surrounding the area with the Four-Tails’ chakra and locking down space, while Minato Namikaze began a sealing technique and asked Shibi Aburame and Uchiha Gen to buy him thirty seconds.

Ch. 58You're asking to die

Uchiha Gen, Shibi Aburame, and Minato Namikaze fought Roshi, the Four-Tails' jinchūriki, as Roshi unleashed a sea of lava and Shibi summoned the giant insect Kejias. The chapter ended with Roshi activating his partial tailed beast transformation as Uchiha Gen rushed in for close combat.

  • Uchiha Gen attacked Roshi with a Super Electromagnetic Cannon, but Roshi countered with lava pillars and flooded the battlefield with magma.
  • Roshi launched a wave of lava serpents at Uchiha Gen, Shibi Aburame, and Minato Namikaze as Minato worked to break through a spatial seal.
  • Shibi Aburame summoned Kejias, who drew in the lava with its devouring suction.
  • Uchiha Gen attacked Roshi with Sun Breathing while Kejias tore apart the lava serpents, then used Kejias's claw to launch himself toward Roshi.
  • Roshi called Uchiha Gen's close-range attack suicidal and activated his partial tailed beast transformation.

Ch. 59We... Don't Need to Leave

Uchiha Gen and Shibi Aburame survived Roshi’s Tailed Beast Bomb through a space-time ability developed from the Flying Thunder God Technique, while Kejias was vaporized. As the Four-Tails’ Lava World began engulfing the area, Minato Namikaze prepared to evacuate them, but Uchiha Gen said they did not need to leave as green flames appeared around him.

  • Roshi attacked Uchiha Gen with a lava-coated fist, but Uchiha Gen dodged and struck at the gaps in Roshi’s Lava Armor while Kejias attacked from above.
  • Roshi formed two Tailed Beast Bombs and detonated them, vaporizing Kejias, but Flying Thunder God Technique marks sent Uchiha Gen and Shibi Aburame into a space-time rift, leaving them unharmed.
  • Shibi Aburame explained that Minato Namikaze had developed a space-time kekkei genkai from the Flying Thunder God Technique as Roshi formed a silver-glowing Tailed Beast Bomb and the Four-Tails’ Lava World began spreading.
  • Uchiha Gen and Shibi Aburame attacked Roshi, with Uchiha Gen summoning the Immovable Wisdom King and Shibi Aburame trapping Roshi with an Insect Tornado.
  • Minato Namikaze arrived and prepared to take Uchiha Gen and Shibi Aburame away, but Uchiha Gen told him they did not need to leave as green flames began burning over his body.

Ch. 60Still Not Enough

Uchiha Gen revealed that his ability could create a killing causal line against Roshi, but said the line was not yet complete and they needed to fight longer. Minato Namikaze and Uchiha Gen battled Roshi and the Four-Tails in Domain-Mount Huaguo, and the chapter ended as the Four-Tails merged into Roshi and his power surged.

  • Uchiha Gen stopped Minato Namikaze from taking them away, explaining that his ability could kill Roshi if they fought long enough.
  • Minato Namikaze moved Uchiha Gen and Shibi Aburame onto a stone platform as Domain-Mount Huaguo transformed the battlefield into a sea of lava.
  • Minato Namikaze attacked Roshi with Sage Mode Rasenshuriken techniques while the Four-Tails appeared behind Roshi, making the fight two against three.
  • Uchiha Gen launched thousands of lightning-wrapped Thousand Blades fragments, which Minato Namikaze teleported behind Roshi and used to destroy his lava tails.
  • Roshi regenerated his lava tails and declared that the attack was not enough, then the Four-Tails stopped fighting Shibi Aburame and merged into Roshi, whose aura grew intensely hot.

Ch. 61Instant noodles, anyone?

Uchiha Gen killed Roshi in the false lava world and escaped with Minato Namikaze and Shibi Aburame as the dimension collapsed. After the Four-Tails was reborn in the Shinobi World and the Sage of Six Paths wondered about a new power, the group regrouped in an underground cavern, where Uchiha Gen offered instant noodles and cola.

  • Uchiha Gen entered the false world and shattered Roshi’s projection, killing Roshi a second later as he entered Son Gokū Chakra Mode.
  • Minato Namikaze used hand seals to take himself, Uchiha Gen, and Shibi Aburame away before the lava dimension collapsed.
  • The Four-Tails, Son Gokū, appeared in the Pure Land, realized Roshi had died, and returned to the Shinobi World, where he was reborn in a volcano.
  • The Sage of Six Paths watched Son Gokū leave and wondered whether the world had truly fallen asleep.
  • Minato Namikaze discouraged Shibi Aburame from questioning Uchiha Gen and suggested they lie low after Roshi’s death.
  • Uchiha Gen offered Minato Namikaze and Shibi Aburame cola and cups of instant noodles instead of hunting for food.

Ch. 62Roshi, you idiot

Ōnoki learned that Roshi had died and that the Four-Tails blamed a roughly ten-year-old Uchiha child, so he planned to question the tailed beast and find a new Jinchūriki. Meanwhile, Minato Namikaze struggled to write the mission report, and Uchiha Gen urged him to describe the killing plainly before Minato said he and Shiki would take responsibility.

  • An Iwagakure jōnin reported to Ōnoki that Roshi had died in battle and the Four-Tails had broken free.
  • Ōnoki reacted furiously to the news and questioned how a child from the Uchiha Clan could have killed Roshi.
  • Ōnoki ordered Kaito to arrange a meeting so he could question the Four-Tails, then considered candidates for a new Jinchūriki.
  • Minato Namikaze struggled to write the mission report while Aburame Shiki stayed quiet and Uchiha Gen suggested he report the events normally.
  • Minato told Uchiha Gen to stay out of the matter and said he and Shiki would take responsibility, promising to compensate him.

Ch. 63Dealing with Uchiha Xuan

Uchiha Gen refused Minato Namikaze’s offer to conceal his role in killing the Four-Tails’ Jinchūriki, while Minato planned to watch Iwagakure’s underground passage for two more days before returning to camp. After receiving Minato’s report, Hiruzen Sarutobi feared Uchiha Gen’s power and considered how to prevent him from becoming another Madara Uchiha.

  • Uchiha Gen told Minato Namikaze he would keep the glory he had earned as an Uchiha.
  • Minato Namikaze said the team would observe Iwagakure’s stance for two more days, then return to camp if the underground passage was abandoned.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi read Minato Namikaze’s report confirming that Uchiha Gen had been the main force in killing the Four-Tails’ Jinchūriki.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi considered assassinating Uchiha Gen but rejected the idea because it risked discovery, Uchiha retaliation, and internal conflict in Konoha.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi could only hope Uchiha Gen would remain loyal to Konoha like Kagami.

Ch. 64Sunagakure's alliance

Sunagakure's leaders discussed their worsening war against Konoha and decided to seek help from their old ally, the Supreme Onmyoji Assembly of the Land of Calamity. Chiyo expected reinforcements soon, while Ebizo considered reviving a plan to sabotage Konoha's supplies.

  • Chiyo defended Rasa as Fourth Kazekage after Tsunade's Wood Release had defeated him and shifted the battlefield against Sunagakure.
  • A senior official proposed releasing Bunpuku and Shukaku, but Chiyo warned that doing so would expose Sunagakure to Kirigakure and Kumogakure.
  • Rasa ordered Pakura to lead the Fourth Puppet Master Unit and Seventh Ninja Unit to delay Kirigakure while avoiding major battles.
  • Chiyo revealed that Sunagakure had an alliance with the Supreme Onmyoji Assembly of the Land of Calamity and said reinforcements were on their way.
  • Ebizo considered adapting his failed supply-sabotage plan with an upgraded Explosive Device and the A-13 Mechanical Bird.

Ch. 65Suicide Squad

Ebizo proposed reorganizing Sunagakure’s Suicide Squad to strike Konoha’s supply lines and decided to lead the mission himself, despite Chiyo’s fear of losing him. Meanwhile, Mitarashi Shisui’s supply convoy continued through the Land of Fire with Might Duy helping escort it toward the Land of Wind.

  • Ebizo told Chiyo he wanted to send a reorganized Suicide Squad into the Land of Fire to attack Konoha’s supply lines.
  • Chiyo objected when Ebizo revealed he planned to accompany the squad, but he insisted Sunagakure needed the mission to succeed.
  • Ebizo reassured Chiyo and said he would go to bring hope to Sunagakure while intending to preserve some of Konoha’s supplies.
  • Mitarashi Shisui led a supply convoy through the Land of Fire and asked Might Duy to protect it for the final third of the journey.
  • Might Duy accepted responsibility for the supplies and vowed to protect them with his life.

Ch. 66Eight Gates

Might Duy rescued Mitarashi Shisui from an aerial missile strike and fought Ebizo, whose chakra-powered armor was damaged by Duy’s Eight Gates techniques. The chapter ended with Duy pressing his palm against Ebizo’s helmet after driving him into a deep crater.

  • Might Duy spotted an enemy attack and hurled Mitarashi Shisui out of the missile blast, but survived the explosions himself.
  • Ebizo ordered Sunagakure jonin to attack the Konoha ninja and confronted Might Duy in his mechanical armor.
  • Might Duy opened the first gate and sent a barrage of rock fragments at Ebizo, damaging his armor.
  • Ebizo strengthened his armor and fired liquid-nitrogen missiles, but Might Duy opened the second gate and melted the frost.
  • Might Duy struck Ebizo into a deep pit, caved in his breastplate, and pressed his palm against Ebizo’s helmet.

Ch. 67Myriad Bodies Replacing the Body

Might Duy defeated Ebizo to protect his companions, but Ebizo revived in a hidden Sunagakure laboratory through the Myriad Bodies Replacing the Body Technique. At the Land of Fire border, Minato Namikaze rescued the injured Konoha team, and Uchiha Gen identified a captured device as a miniature Tailed Beast Bomb.

  • Might Duy slammed Ebizo into the ground, crushing his armor and burying him in a crater before rushing to protect his companions.
  • Ebizo awoke in a Sunagakure laboratory among dozens of identical bodies and realized his Myriad Bodies Replacing the Body Technique had revived him.
  • Ebizo tried to connect to his A-13 Mechanical Bird, discovered it had been destroyed, and mourned the likely loss of the Sunagakure jonin who accompanied him.
  • Minato Namikaze arrived at the Land of Fire border and killed the two Sunagakure jonin attacking Mitarashi Shisui.
  • Might Duy and Mitarashi Shisui each blamed himself for Shisui's wound while Minato Namikaze asked Uchiha Gen to examine the captured mechanical bird.
  • Uchiha Gen identified the black Four-Rhombus Block in the bird's talons as a miniature Tailed Beast Bomb, and Mitarashi Shisui asked why Minato Namikaze, Shibi, and Gen had come there.

Ch. 68Returning to the Village

Uchiha Gen returned to Konoha after the Land of Grass front eased, while Minato Namikaze went to visit Kushina. Back at the Uchiha Clan Compound, Gen checked in and met Hatake Sakumo, who explained the sensory power he had awakened through sword practice.

  • Minato Namikaze explained that the Land of Grass front had stabilized and that he planned to use his week of leave to see Kushina.
  • Minato transported Mitarashi Shisui and Might Duy to their mission supplies, leaving Uchiha Gen and Shibi Aburame behind.
  • Minato brought Gen and Shibi back to Konoha, then left; Gen headed to the Uchiha Clan Compound and resented the surveillance watching him.
  • Gen checked in and gained a small amount of ocular power, noticing a faint coolness in his eyes.
  • Hatake Sakumo was waiting outside Gen's home and described how sword practice had awakened his ability to sense nearby presences as auras.

Ch. 69No longer a ninja

Uchiha Gen asked Hatake Sakumo whether he had quit being a ninja, and Sakumo said he wanted to focus on watching Kakashi grow up. Meanwhile, Kakashi’s team ambushed Iwagakure ninja in the Land of Grass, captured one, and bickered after the fight.

  • Uchiha Gen served Hatake Sakumo tea and asked if he planned to stop being a ninja.
  • Hatake Sakumo said he was tired of fighting and wanted to watch Kakashi grow up, though Uchiha Gen noted that leaving the ninja life was not so simple.
  • Kakashi, Obito Uchiha, and Asuma Sarutobi confronted Iwagakure ninja infiltrating through the Land of Grass.
  • Obito Uchiha and Asuma Sarutobi trapped the enemies with ninjutsu while Kakashi destroyed their earth spears and attacked.
  • Kurenai Yuhi used genjutsu to immobilize an enemy, and Kakashi killed another before ordering the survivor taken back.
  • Obito Uchiha complained that Kakashi had stolen his kill, and he and Asuma Sarutobi began arguing.

Ch. 70The Pokémon Egg Hatches

Uchiha Gen's Pokémon Egg hatched into an unusual white Gastly, but a Mangekyō Sharingan's ocular power suddenly transported him to a blood-misted stone platform. An unseen voice questioned who he really was.

  • Rin Nohara stopped Obito Uchiha and Asuma Sarutobi from fighting and urged the team to return to camp.
  • Kakashi explained how Jiraiya used Mount Myōboku's tree frogs to gather intelligence, and Asuma Sarutobi recalled Uchiha Gen's egg.
  • Uchiha Gen watched the Pokémon Egg hatch and welcomed the white Gastly that emerged.
  • A surge of ocular power distorted Uchiha Gen's surroundings and transported him from his room to a stone platform.
  • An unseen speaker questioned Uchiha Gen's identity, saying his power did not come from the Uchiha bloodline.

Ch. 71The future

Uchiha Fugaku revealed that his Mangekyō Sharingan let him see futures in which the Uchiha Clan was destroyed, but Uchiha Gen’s actions repeatedly changed what he foresaw. Fugaku could not see the newest future after Gen’s power grew stronger, while Gen’s Sharingan seemed close to awakening further.

  • Uchiha Fugaku appeared in Uchiha Gen’s home through a space distortion and explained that he had opened a domain with his Mangekyō Sharingan.
  • Uchiha Fugaku told Uchiha Gen that his left-eye technique, [Tianjin Yan], showed him futures in which the Uchiha Clan was destroyed, regardless of whether Itachi, Shisui, or another child carried out the massacre.
  • Uchiha Fugaku described a future in which Uchiha Gen became clan leader and Fourth Hokage, led a successful coup, and plunged the entire Shinobi World into war.
  • Uchiha Fugaku said the future changed again after Uchiha Gen and Minato returned, but his attempt to see the new future consumed more than half his ocular power.
  • Uchiha Gen’s Three-Tomoe Sharingan spun rapidly as his ocular power surged, and Uchiha Fugaku realized he was close to becoming another Mangekyō Sharingan wielder.

Ch. 72Mangekyō

Uchiha Fugaku tested Uchiha Gen’s loyalty and confirmed that his eyes and abilities marked him as a true Uchiha. Afterward, Fugaku told Minato Namikaze about the Mangekyō’s divine origins and his despair over the future he had seen.

  • Uchiha Fugaku showed Uchiha Gen scenes of the clan’s massacre to test his sense of belonging, and Gen’s rising ocular power convinced him that Gen was a true Uchiha.
  • Fugaku urged Gen to delay his plan, saying that a pair of Mangekyō eyes could help prevent a war from consuming the Shinobi World.
  • The illusion shattered, and Gen returned to his room as Fugaku left, shedding a bloody tear after using his ocular technique.
  • On Hokage Rock, Fugaku told Minato Namikaze that his test had confirmed Gen was not possessed by fallen god remnants.
  • Fugaku explained that Indra had absorbed the remnants’ powers and passed them down through the Uchiha bloodline, with the Mangekyō unlocking them.
  • Fugaku admitted that he had considered killing Gen and described the despair he felt when his eyes showed him the clan’s destruction and a family divided against itself.

Ch. 73There's Chakra in the Air?!?

Uchiha Fugaku told Minato Namikaze how Uchiha Gen had repeatedly changed the future he saw with [Tianjin Yan], leaving Fugaku unable to predict Gen’s fate. At Uchiha Gen’s home, Gastly unexpectedly drew chakra from the air, leaving Gen baffled by the discovery.

  • Uchiha Fugaku explained that his killing intent toward Uchiha Gen had led to a fight in which Gen awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan and killed him seventeen times.
  • Uchiha Fugaku told Minato Namikaze that his [Tianjin Yan] could no longer clearly see Uchiha Gen’s future because green flames burned away his ocular power.
  • Minato Namikaze urged Uchiha Fugaku to have faith in Gen, and Fugaku reluctantly agreed to take things one step at a time.
  • Uchiha Gen demonstrated chakra extraction to Gastly, who quickly produced chakra.
  • Gastly told Uchiha Gen that it had drawn the chakra from the surrounding air, and Gen wondered where the energy had come from.

Ch. 74Leave notice

Uchiha Gen sent Gastly to train in his shadow, then met Hatake Sakumo for sword practice and discovered that Sakumo’s lightning sword force was not chakra. Their clash left Gen defending against Sakumo’s three successive lightning strikes.

  • Uchiha Gen told Gastly to train in his shadow and help him when it grew stronger.
  • Uchiha Gen arrived at the Uchiha Clan Compound training ground to practice swordsmanship with Hatake Sakumo.
  • Hatake Sakumo attacked with lightning along his White Fang short blade, and Uchiha Gen realized the lightning was not chakra.
  • Uchiha Gen countered with his flaming Demon Blade Thousand Blades, and the collision cracked the training ground.
  • Hatake Sakumo named his sword force Thunderclap and unleashed three escalating lightning-blade strikes.
  • Uchiha Gen surrounded himself with fragments of the Demon Blade Thousand Blades and used flames to block Sakumo’s strikes.

Ch. 75Everything at My Will

Hatake Sakumo demonstrated how sword force could become an invisible domain that obeyed its wielder’s will, then advised Uchiha Gen to forge his sword styles into something of his own. He admitted he could not teach Gen to awaken sword force and explained that his domain had let him control the force and intent inside Gen’s body.

  • Hatake Sakumo shattered Uchiha Gen’s flames and explained how sword force could build successive waves of power.
  • Hatake Sakumo formed a lightning domain that cut Gen’s clothes and caused a tingling sensation inside his body, though Gen’s Observation Haki and Sharingan detected nothing.
  • Hatake Sakumo advised Gen to abandon or merge his Fire Release and Breathing Technique sword styles into a style of his own.
  • Hatake Sakumo admitted that awakening sword force was random and said only four or five people in the Shinobi World had achieved it.
  • Hatake Sakumo explained that his domain let him control all force and intent within it, including what was inside Gen’s body.
