Not long after the survivors left.
On the island, beside Bai Ling's corpse, a faint cracking sound suddenly rang out.
The turtle shell she had always carried at her waist, covered in cracks and looking as though it would shatter at any second yet never doing so, had finally broken.
The shell shattered across the ground, then spontaneously caught fire without a breath of wind.
Its flames were an eerie green, like the soulfire used by the undead.
The green soulfire burned the shell to ashes, then crawled along Bai Ling's clothes onto her corpse and blazed fiercely.
Immediately afterward, the swelling flames quickly spread to the other corpses.
Within just a few minutes, every corpse on the island had been ignited by the soulfire, forming an enormous torch.
What happened outside?
Lin Yuan was trapped inside the Coffin. Although he heard the sounds of the soulfire, he had no way of knowing what had happened.
The Time Barrier only froze its interior; it did not stop sounds from outside from coming in.
Lin Yuan had clearly heard Research Institute 3154 and the others talking and sighing earlier, but he could not send out any information.
The same was true when he heard the soulfire just now. Lin Yuan could only listen, unable to do anything.
Come to think of it, this really isn't scientific. Time has frozen, so how can outside sounds get in? Sound waves need time to vibrate too.
Lin Yuan could not help grumbling inwardly.
Of course, it was only a passing thought.
There was no science on this sea to begin with, only supernatural mysticism.
Time, in essence, was merely a form of transcendent power.
Though it was transcendent power of the highest order, the kind Lin Yuan could do absolutely nothing about.
