Personality

Bai Ling is cautious, highly alert to supernatural danger, and prone to overthinking other people’s intentions. Convinced that Lin Yuan and Lilia are dangerous uncanny beings, she interprets their friendly remarks as veiled threats and Lilia’s scatterbrained behavior as calculated deception. Her outward cooperation initially comes from believing that proving her usefulness is necessary to survive 41 42 43.

Her fear does not prevent decisive action. She repeatedly warns teammates who doubt her, shoots the hidden creature controlling their attacker, and later chooses to investigate a dangerous presence for the rewards it might offer. She recognizes that her high Inspiration brings both unusual opportunities and exceptional danger, making rapid improvement a necessity 38 39 46.

Bai Ling also values her independence. Although she eventually acknowledges the safety and benefits of traveling with Lin Yuan—and privately considers him good-looking—she insists that she must follow her own path as a player rather than depend on him 50.

Her shots wound the gray-robed attacker through his associated creature and later halt both him and the gray caterpillar during their escape 39 40 41.

Background / History

Beginner Instance and Mist Island Entry

Before entering Mist Island, Bai Ling survived the beginner instance and acquired her transcendent pistol. She subsequently joined a temporary team of newly acquainted players 37 41 42.

At the Mist Island entrance, she spotted Lilia dragging a sinister coffin into the jungle. Her teammates dismissed the sighting as a hallucination caused by her high Inspiration. Lin Yuan, meanwhile, noticed her sensitivity and decided that following her might lead him to treasure 37.

Diving Club Ambush

Bai Ling warned her team against approaching gray-robed Diving Club members, sensing that their friendly proposal to cooperate concealed danger. Her teammates hesitated, particularly after the strangers suggested that she was mentally unstable 38.

A gray shadow killed the team leader, and Bai Ling identified its connection to the gray-robed figures. She shot into the woods and wounded their controller, but his retaliatory shriek incapacitated her. After killing the remaining teammates, he seized her as a valuable sacrifice because of her spiritual sensitivity 39.

Lilia’s arrival interrupted the capture. Bai Ling subsequently used the Dead Line Gun to prevent the attacker’s escape and warned that his sacrificial transformation was producing something dangerous. Lin Yuan emerged from the coffin and killed the resulting giant beetle, convincing Bai Ling that he could not possibly be a player from her batch 39 40.

Rubber Beast Expedition

After recovering, Bai Ling explained her abilities and human Sanity-based sensing to her rescuers. She volunteered to help find supernatural rubber, partly to demonstrate her usefulness and partly to gain further exposure to transcendent power 41 42.

Her tracking led the group to a Rubber Gorilla. After its death, she located the Rubber Seed inside its skull, then experienced a vision revealing the island’s extensive Rubber Beast nests. She guided Lin Yuan and Lilia to the Giant Tree Forest and approached Spotlight’s Adventurer Group on Lin Yuan’s behalf 42 43 44.

Following Lin Yuan’s instructions, she presented Lilia as her own subdued follower. She negotiated an agreement to draw away the surrounding Rubber Beasts in exchange for a land-travel modification, allowing the Adventurer Group to enter the forest while Lin Yuan harvested seeds 45 46.

Giant Turtle and Retreat

Within the forest, Bai Ling sensed that the giant trees were suppressing another being. Choosing the prospect of substantial rewards despite the danger, she directed Lin Yuan to a dying giant turtle. The turtle entrusted him with the Captain’s Quarters Key and imparted knowledge to Bai Ling 46 47 48.

When the forest retaliated, she warned of the approaching Tree King and sheltered in Lilia’s coffin while her companions fought. She also offered to cover the Adventurer Group’s retreat, earning Spotlight’s gratitude. After escaping, she reported that the coffin had restored her Sanity and eased the dizziness caused by the turtle’s knowledge 47 48.

Land-Travel Diagrams and Lake Ruins

Bai Ling continued acting as Lin Yuan’s intermediary when Spotlight offered to sell the Adventurer Group’s ship. After Lin Yuan’s attempt to board damaged its deck, she declined the purchase on his instructions 49.

The negotiations shifted to technical diagrams for a land-travel conversion, with delivery planned after the friends feature opened. Lin Yuan instructed her to contact the account “Zero.” Unaware that Zero was Lin Yuan himself, she imagined that the account belonged to another player caught up with the uncanny captain 50.

After obtaining information from Spotlight about underwater ruins and the organizations gathering there, Bai Ling guided the group toward the central lake while avoiding the Giant Tree Forest 50.

Relationships

• Lin Yuan — Rescuer and temporary expedition partner. He values her as a supernatural tracker and trusts her to complete the diagrams transaction. She mistakes him for a powerful uncanny being, interpreting his friendliness as coercion even as she grows more appreciative of his protection 40 42 47 50.
• Lilia — Rescuer and traveling companion. Bai Ling initially fears her nonhuman nature and repeatedly mistakes her absentmindedness for deliberate manipulation. She poses as Lilia’s master when dealing with the Adventurer Group 41 43 45.
• Spotlight — Negotiating partner and Adventurer Group captain. Believing Bai Ling controls both Lilia and the coffin’s occupant, he initially considers her powerful but ruthless. Her offer to cover his retreat changes his opinion, and he later hopes to establish good relations with her 45 46 48 49.
