Chapter 218: Hyuga Akira takes command of Root's Second Squad
"Root has ten formation squads in total. They aren't the usual three- or four-person teams. Each squad starts with twenty members, but some have more personnel because of the different missions they handle," Aburame Ryoma explained Root's basic operations to Hyuga Akira.
He led Hyuga Akira into a room in a relatively secluded part of the Root Base. It was an enormous training ground, with quite a few people training inside.
"Then how many people are in my squad, and what are our main duties?" Hyuga Akira asked.
"The Second Formation Squad has the standard twenty members. Its main responsibility is surrounding and killing targets outside the village." Ryoma stopped there.
More precisely, they surrounded and killed Shinobi from their own village whom Root considered a danger to the village.
The village itself despised such conduct. If this squad were discovered, they would be treated as disposable pawns and abandoned outright.
Killing comrades from the same village was an unforgivable offense to Shinobi loyal to the village.
That was why the Second Squad had always maintained a roster of twenty without expanding. The main reason was that nobody wanted to join. Unless Danzo gave the order, nobody would volunteer for this squad.
Danzo's deliberate decision to assign Hyuga Akira here hardly seemed well-intentioned.
Given Hyuga Akira's current achievements in the village, he would not get into trouble even if this came to light, but every Shinobi in the village would despise him. His standing might even fall below the Uchiha's.
At least the village's Shinobi merely disliked the Uchiha's arrogance and had plenty of complaints about them. They did not actually despise them.
