| Character Level 16 | 35 | Spends one experience point to level up. His panel shows 230 total chakra: 160 base plus equipment bonuses of 50 and 20. |
- Continuity discrepancy: Chapter 39 again describes Akira spending 3,999 experience to reach Level 16, although his Chapter 35 panel already lists that level 35 39.
- Class-change threshold: Level 18 unlocks class selection, but completing the change requires a quest. The supplied passages show him entering the Hunter Exam for this purpose, not completing a class change 11 46 47 48.
- Opening preview: A future scene depicts Akira floating above the Allied Shinobi Forces with Six Paths Mode activated. Its attainment is not shown in the supplied storyline 1.
Background and History
Player Origins and Hyuga Service
Akira remembers playing a game with paid lottery draws, through which he obtained the Byakugan. After transmigrating, he finds himself named Hyuga Akira, although his panel continues to identify him as “I'm Xiao Ming.” He treats the shinobi world through the game's mechanics, remembering enemy drops and equipment guides 1 5 46.
A newly graduated ninja, Akira belongs to the Hyuga Branch Family and bears the Caged Bird Seal. The clan appoints him Hiashi's sworn guard and forces him into a squad led by Tsunade alongside Hiashi and Hizashi. His assigned purpose is to serve as an expendable escort if the brothers encounter danger 1 2.
Conflict with the Main Family
During the squad's first bandit mission, Akira ignores Hiashi's orders, kills the bandits for loot, and defeats Hiashi when challenged. He injures Hiashi's hand with a substituted spiked club before knocking him unconscious 3.
The Main Family initially sentences Akira to ten days of confinement without food or water. Hiashi's intervention reduces the sentence to three days, but Akira regards the proceedings as a coordinated attempt to win his loyalty. Tsunade secures his release after one day, largely because of his friendship with Nawaki 7 8.
After leaving the compound, Akira establishes a paid genin fighting ring with Nawaki. The venture earns money and experience but draws official attention. Tsunade subsequently takes him to Konoha Hospital to learn medical ninjutsu and keep him under supervision 9 10 11 12.
Land of Rain Assignment
Akira accompanies Tsunade and the Hyuga brothers on an A-rank mission to deliver supplies and establish a defensive line near the Land of Rain. He hopes the assignment will help him resolve the Caged Bird Seal and prepare for the approaching Second Shinobi World War 19 22.
His hostility toward the brothers intensifies during combat. He attacks Hizashi for attempting to finish an enemy whose kill he wants, and privately considers killing the injured Hiashi during treatment to obtain a Byakugan drop. Hizashi prevents him from treating his brother 20 21.
At the military camp, Hiashi activates the Caged Bird Seal against him. Akira endures the pain and threatens Hiashi at knifepoint. Tsunade intervenes, orders both confined, and announces that their squad will disband after handing over its assignment. Akira asks to remain near the front for a year rather than return to the clan 26 27.
Undercover as Muyu
Selected for infiltration work, Akira learns the Summoning Technique from Hiruko and assumes the identity of Muyu, an Amegakure genin. He explains inconsistencies in his behavior through supposed amnesia and violent episodes, convincing Kusen to accept him into an intelligence unit 28 30.
Akira uses local intelligence to hunt wandering ninja for experience while reporting to Hiruko. He helps Kusen assassinate the city lord and ambush a replacement squad, then turns on Kusen himself. Revealing his Gentle Fist, he kills the weakened chunin with twenty-three flame-enhanced palm strikes 31 32 33 36 38 39.
He deliberately cultivates Muyu's reputation as a bloodthirsty, unpredictable subordinate to influence Hanzo's expectations. His behavior drives Kusen's remaining subordinates to attempt an assassination, which he survives. Murakami Hana subsequently intervenes and demonstrates the gap between them by breaking Akira's arm 41 42 43.
During this assignment, Akira also meets Nagato and begins teaching him to identify as a Chakra User rather than a shinobi—a wielder of power rather than a tool 41 45.
Hunter Exam
After recognizing that the Hanzo presented to him is a double, Akira negotiates a month to practice a technique. Given a sealed room without apparent surveillance, he accepts the Hunter Exam mission and is transported to another world 48.
His unfamiliar abilities attract Netero's suspicion, including questions about the Dark Continent. Akira declines an offer to receive a Hunter License without continuing the exam. At Trick Tower, he enters a three-person route with Hisoka and Illumi, then takes a separate passage and encounters a scarred opponent who had expected Hisoka 50.
Appearance
Akira wears Hyuga attire early in the story and later adopts clothing appropriate to his undercover identity 1 30.
- Eyes: Snow-white pupils; veins bulge around his eyes when the Byakugan is active 3 25.
- Forehead: A green Caged Bird Seal concealed beneath his forehead protector 1.
- Usual expression: Frequently smiles or grins, though others find the expression threatening 1 30 47.
- Muyu disguise: Clean clothes, a purple vest, and an Amegakure forehead protector 30.
Personality
Akira is openly defiant toward inherited authority, particularly the Hyuga Main Family's claim over his life. He rejects both threats and promises of protection, refusing to regard submission as an acceptable price for comfort. His resistance is practical as well as ideological: he relies on Konoha's prohibition against killing or crippling fellow villagers and Tsunade's protection to limit the clan's options 6 8 26.
His player mentality makes experience, equipment, and skill acquisition central to his decisions. He calls enemies “mobs,” treats combat as farming, and reacts violently to perceived kill stealing—even by teammates. He usually favors ambushes, traps, and deception over fair fights 3 20 39.
Akira's apparent recklessness can conceal deliberate planning. As Muyu, he constructs a murderous persona to shape Hanzo's judgment, yet spares the poisoned Kusen when killing him would jeopardize his cover. He also distinguishes between the Main Family and ordinary Branch Family members, toward whom he is noticeably warmer 6 34 41.
Abilities and Skills
Player System
Akira possesses a game panel, experience pool, equipment slots, and an inventory 10.
- Earns experience through both lethal combat and nonlethal victories 3 10 17 48.
- Learns techniques directly from dropped skill books, including abilities originating outside the shinobi world 5.
- Improves skills through practice or direct experience expenditure 5.
- Gains physical improvements and increased chakra through character levels; before class change, each level adds ten base chakra 10 11.
- Uses level-ups tactically to heal injuries and replenish chakra, sometimes keeping his experience bar nearly full for emergencies 23 33.
- Can learn game skills despite lacking the corresponding chakra nature, though he still prioritizes spending his limited experience 32.
- Must practice throwing and trap-setting manually because they do not appear as panel skills 2.
Byakugan
His Byakugan provides long-distance vision, perception through obstacles, and observation of chakra 3.
- Locates concealed enemies and guides ranged attacks through cover 3 20.
- Provides near-total surrounding perception, with a one-degree gap attributed to the Caged Bird Seal 3.
- Estimates enemy strength from chakra reserves, which does not necessarily establish actual rank or combat ability 23.
- Detects suspicious chakra levels, allowing him to identify Hanzo's double 48.
Substitution Technique
Akira develops Substitution beyond its initial defensive use, combining it with equipment and explosives 3 11 23.
- Substitutes a spiked club to injure attackers 3.
- Uses the Level 10 Swap trait to exchange places with an item in use 11.
- Enables evasive movement and surprise attacks during pursuit 22 23.
- Consumes substantial chakra: five uses in one battle cost more than one hundred chakra points 23.
- Is not unbeatable; Cloud ninja counter his movement with Lightning Body Flicker 23.
Gentle Fist and Original Taijutsu
Akira adapts Hyuga techniques rather than restricting himself to the clan's established methods 10 11 39.
- Willow Fluff: Uses chakra control and heightened perception to evade approaching enemy chakra; developed specifically to counter Gentle Fist 10.
- Crushing Fist: A hard-hitting style assembled from previous-life memories. It does not register as a panel skill 11.
- Eight Trigrams: Mountain Crusher / Mountain-Breaking Strike: Used to defeat a ring challenger and drive Akishima into explosive traps 9 38.
- Unknowing Fire, Sixty-Four Forms of the Eight Trigrams: Combines palm strikes, fire, and Kumate. Unlike traditional Sixty-Four Palms, it emphasizes destructive impact rather than sealing chakra points; Akira identifies it as his strongest attack when fighting Kusen 39.
Fire Release and Projectile Combat
Unknowing Fire briefly adds fire damage to attacks and weapons. Akira builds his preferred ranged fighting style around enhanced shuriken 5 20.
- Combines flames with Kumate's hand strength to fire projectiles through trees and opponents 20.
- Uses saturation volleys against groups and fleeing targets 23 25.
- Can perform Unknowing Fire's seals one-handed, though more slowly than with both hands 20.
- Cannot sustain his strongest projectile combinations indefinitely because of limited chakra 20 23.
Kumate / Bear Grappling Fist
Acquired from a chakra-bearing brown bear, this technique controls chakra to strengthen the hands 16.
- Enhances blade strikes, punches, and projectile throwing 16 20 26.
- Increases in power with its skill level 16.
- Unlike the Senju's Monstrous Strength, it enhances only the hands rather than the entire body 16.
Medical Ninjutsu
Akira synthesizes Medical Ninjutsu from Mystical Palm Technique, Delicate Illness Extraction Technique, Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Technique, and Chakra Scalpel 14.
- Demonstrates exceptional chakra control by quickly learning Mystical Palm 13.
- Possesses extensive medical knowledge but initially lacks clinical experience; he has not actually treated anyone by the encounter involving Hiashi's injuries 14 21.
- Later treats his own combat injuries 23.
Infiltration and Traps
Akira combines disguise, intelligence gathering, and prepared killing grounds 28 30 36.
- Uses Transformation Technique to maintain Muyu's appearance; a later demonstration conceals the visible activation of his Byakugan 31.
- Sends intelligence to Hiruko through the Summoning Technique 28 36.
- Places wire-linked shuriken and timed explosive tags throughout ambush sites 36 38.
- Uses Niko Style: Flame Sky Form: Ghost Step for a surprise killing strike 31.
Equipment and Items
- Inventory / Ninja Tool Pouch disguise: Conceals large quantities of tools and equipment, baffling observers who cannot find a sealing scroll. Akira considers the inventory his greatest source of confidence 8 28 36.
- Bandit Set: Includes greaves, gauntlets or hand guards, sword, armor, necklace, and ring. He completes the set during a later bandit hunt 5 25.
- Bandit's Sword / Bronze Battle Blade: Early weapon with +10–15 attack, frequently combined with flames and strength enhancement 5 16.
- Ninja Longsword: Looted weapon with +50–55 attack 24.
- Genin Kunai: Grants +20–25 attack 21.
- Recovery Ring: Restores one health point per second 21.
- Chakra Ring: Adds 50 chakra 21.
- Projectile supplies: Kunai, shuriken, Fūma Shuriken, wire, and explosive tags. His cache after visiting Hiruko includes 53 explosive tags and five Fūma Shuriken 28.
- Stored drops: Includes Nen Stitching, an Exorcist Skill Fragment, a Nanika's Wish List Fragment, and Scarlet Eyes. Acquisition does not establish that he can use them 34 39 43.
- Detoxification Pill: Uses one after escaping a poison-based genjutsu 45.
Relationships
- Tsunade — Squad leader, medical teacher, and protector. Initially intervenes because of Nawaki, later explicitly calls Akira her student while backing him against Hiashi 8 12 13 26.
- Nawaki — Younger friend and loyal follower, won over through repeated fights. Helps operate the fighting ring; Akira gives him a spare gauntlet that boosts chakra in his hand by fifty percent 8 11 18.
- Hyuga Hiashi — Assigned charge and principal clan rival. Attempts to secure Akira's loyalty through bargains before resorting to the Caged Bird Seal 1 6 26.
- Hizashi Hyuga — Teammate who defends Hiashi and the Branch Family's obligations. Becomes convinced Akira poses a direct threat to his brother 2 10 21.
- Hiruko — Infiltration instructor and Konoha contact. Teaches him Summoning and receives his reports 28 36.
- Kusen — Undercover superior and temporary accomplice. Akira preserves him while useful, then kills him after revealing his Gentle Fist 30 34 39.
- Nagato — Young student whom Akira teaches to reject the identity of a shinobi tool and forge his own path as a Chakra User 41 45.
- Murakami Hana — Amegakure jonin who disciplines Akira, oversees his access to Hanzo, and prevents him from killing a chunin 43 45 48.
- Netero — Hunter Exam authority who questions Akira's unfamiliar power. Akira insists on continuing the examination despite Netero's offer of a license 50.
