On the screen was a first-person view.
The view looked out through an observation port somewhere in Mechanical City.
Everything around it was pitch-black, the darkness so thick it almost spilled out of the screen.
Then came rumbling, one boom after another, making their chests resonate.
Electrical light flashed constantly in the darkness, bolt after bolt of lightning tearing through the sky.
"What is this?" Yang Yong asked.
Kang Yixiang's answer came from behind him, her voice now unbelievably calm.
"Mechanical City jumped into a Thunderstorm Cloud Cluster."
So that was it.
No wonder the screen was a murky black and gray. They were deep inside the clouds.
"Why jump into a Thunderstorm Cloud Cluster? Isn't that asking to die?" Yang Yong pressed.
Thunderstorm Cloud Clusters were things even airplanes had to fly around.
The temperature of a single lightning strike was higher than the surface of the sun.
Kang Yixiang's explanation stunned everyone.
"To collect energy, of course."
She spoke as though it were perfectly natural, as self-evident as the sun rising in the east.
"Mechanical City needs powerful electrical energy from lightning to operate."
"In this apocalypse, with industry at a standstill, we can only rely on capturing natural lightning energy."
Capturing lightning energy?
As those words landed in their minds, everyone finally understood.
The building they had taken shelter in was covered entirely in steel.
Even if lightning struck it, the current would be conducted underground and then stored.
The room they were in had clearly been electrically insulated.
That was why Kang Yixiang had been so nervous earlier...
Had they been outside, even without a direct lightning strike, the currents surging everywhere would have been enough to cook them all.
As Yang Yong was thinking, electrical light began flashing across the Light Screen amid the rumbling.
