He survived Guancheng’s destruction by playing dead. When Cao Xianming’s convoy appeared, he watched its members’ feet to check that they were human, raised his weapon to signal peaceful intentions, and exposed his chest to prove he had no Weirdness Mark before receiving permission to follow 1.

Despite his weathered appearance during the convoy’s later travels, he had only just turned nineteen. The middle-school survivors who regarded him as a middle-aged protector did not know that he was barely older than a university freshman 80 84.

Personality

Yang Yong is cautious, observant, and intensely afraid of dying. He checks unfamiliar groups for signs of Eerie impersonation, recognizes suspicious behavior, and avoids unnecessary investigation even when curious. His desire to prove useful to the convoy is also tied to his reluctance to face the apocalypse alone 1 4 14.

His pragmatism can become extreme cruelty. After recovering his stolen bicycle, he cut off one hand each from the thief and the old woman who had previously used him as bait. Both subsequently died after days of suffering, establishing his ruthless reputation among the passengers 7 22. He also uses intimidation and violence to enforce order during supernatural emergencies 25 29.

He nevertheless acknowledges debts and values dependable allies. After being reminded that Wang Ying had saved him, he waived his fee for upgrading her saber. He later welcomed the prospect of strengthening her because a stronger Wang Ying meant a safer convoy 23 43. When escape becomes impossible, his fear can give way to desperate resistance rather than surrender 21 33.

His attachment to his companions increasingly overrides his preference for avoiding danger. He accepts responsibility for restraining Wang Ying during a potentially fatal encounter, conceals Wang Che’s condition to prevent her from rushing to her death, and later risks himself to rescue her from a man-eating tree 110 114 419 420.

Yezi’s willingness to die for him profoundly unsettles his earlier dismissive view of her as merely a mentally unstable woman. He also shows patience toward Long Ya’s grief, allowing her to cry rather than forcing her to suppress it 425 694.

Although he does not consider himself a good person, he draws a firm line against raising people as livestock and consuming their lives under a righteous pretext. His discovery of Red Blessing’s exploitation of human victims provokes cold anger rather than indifference 709.

He remains opportunistic and protective of valuable resources. He hides the Two-Colored Strange Mud from Chen Gen, negotiates material-backed crafting arrangements, and abruptly becomes welcoming toward unwelcome visitors when Curio materials are mentioned 280 457 652. He is also sensitive to manipulation by stronger beings, particularly when he begins to suspect that Jiang Chen’s gift of blood essence made Yezi part of a prearranged scheme 794.

Appearance

• Early convoy travels: An unkempt nineteen-year-old with stubble, bloodshot eyes, and worn, ragged clothing. Months of outdoor survival and combat make him appear older than thirty to the students he protects 80.
• Supernatural alterations: At the height of his struggle against the Netherworld Ancient Tree, the left side of his body is densely covered in eyes, while white bone armor with blood-red patterns encases his right side from cheek to fingertips 430 436.
• Concealment: Wears a black robe and ghost-face mask when approaching the convoy’s bonfire after these alterations. Both the mask and his revealed face frighten onlookers, although Wang Ying says his face looks fine 446.

• Hostile Eerie Bride — An overpowering enemy whom Yang Yong identifies as an impostor rather than the ethereal bride from his initial vision. She claims to have killed him repeatedly in the past, but he has no memory of meeting her 32 33.

• Gray-robed old servant — An old man associated with the temple’s clay statues who calls Yang Yong “young master” and intervenes against the hostile Eerie Bride. Yang Yong does not recognize him or understand the claimed connection 34.

• Mang Dabiao — A talking snake, driver, and increasingly important subordinate who calls Yang Yong “Boss.” Initially asks to be taken in after seeing the Two-Yang God-Sealing Banner 63 129 152.

Yang Yong begins as an unaffiliated cyclist following Cao Xianming’s convoy. During the Qinglongzhai supply search, an old woman pushes him into danger to distract the Slit-Mouthed Woman. He retaliates and escapes using his enhanced bicycle 1 4.

After the bicycle is stolen, he acquires the Little Golden Flood Dragon Scissors and uses them to force its return. His public display of power brings him to the convoy’s leadership, where he invents the Artificer Sequence explanation and receives a twenty-percent supply share 6 7 8.

Giant Snake and Lakeside Refuge

Yang Yong survives the Drifting Convoy’s attempted double-cross by following Old Cao’s warning to remain hidden. When a territorial giant snake pursues the departing convoy, he abandons his van and escapes by bicycle 10 12.

At the lake occupying Qing City’s former center, Cao Xianming exposes the gap between Yang Yong’s claimed Sequence and his actual condition. Yang Yong subsequently demonstrates his usefulness by riding a branch across the water, killing a giant carp, and helping prepare supplies during the convoy’s three-day stay 14 15.

Small World and Coffin Temple

After entering a world containing spiritual energy, the convoy encounters a controlling chant and a voice-mimicking Eerie. Yang Yong takes responsibility for keeping the bus passengers silent, fights the Red-Clothed Female Ghost, and acquires the God-Sealing Banner 17 19 21 22.

Separated from the main convoy, he follows Cao Xianming’s instruction to travel toward the Blood Moon. His bus crosses a hostile forest and a sea of Other Shore Flowers before becoming trapped near the Coffin Temple 26 27 28 29.

Inside the temple, he is forced into a ghostly wedding, identifies an impostor bride, and cuts through the building to escape. The old servant and furnace intervene when the hostile bride overwhelms him. A separate presence within the Coffin Temple later saves him, and he escapes the small world after Wang Ying creates an opening past the pursuing treant 30 32 33 34 35 36.

Cultivation and Artifact Development

Confronted with his dependence on borrowed artifact power, Yang Yong attempts to strengthen his own cultivation. He forcibly opens his first aperture, survives the resulting injuries through the furnace’s intervention, and resolves to cultivate more cautiously 39 40 41.

He later helps defend the convoy against mutated rats and begins reforging Wang Ying’s saber with materials obtained through Cao Xianming’s trade with Zou Wei 43 46.

At the Ancient House, he lures the Black Coffin into the Thousand-Hammer, Hundred-Refinement Furnace and escapes with Wang Ying and the Light-Sword Girl. Outside, he helps clear the Paper Army before five Paper Craftsman Sequence Transcendents block the convoy’s routes 129.

With Wang Ying cutting down Paper Effigy Dragons, he absorbs their remaining power and completes the Nine Nether Yuanchen White Bone Ring 131.

Genuine Sequence Awakening and Arming the Convoy

Swallowing a blood bead awakens Yang Yong’s mystical eyes and the genuine Ten-Thousand-Forging Primordial Furnace Sequence. Unlike his earlier cover identity, this is actual Sequence Transcendence, bringing controllable crafting and direct furnace combat abilities 146 147.

He begins exchanging forged weapons for supplies, integrates Mang Dabiao’s shrinking array, and develops a system in which loaned Bone Daggers retain his authority while gathering Eerie energy for later recovery. This turns equipment production into both convoy defense and a resource-gathering method 147 152 169.

Sky Base and the Incomplete Chaos Warship

Yang Yong explores Soul Realm dungeons, discovers a difference between dungeon and real-world time, and spends three days clearing F-rank instances. Cao Xianming secretly provides cultivation methods and warns him that Sky Base is experimenting on people 193.

At Sky Base, Yang Yong outwardly cooperates while his eyes are repeatedly gouged out. The base’s extensive nutritional support rapidly advances his supernatural power toward the peak of Sequence 1, but inwardly he remains cold toward his captors 197.

During the ensuing conflict, he combines the Three-Yang banner, Heavenly Dragon Slash, and the White Bone Ring into an incomplete Lesser Chaos Warship. Its Savage Charge breaks through powerful attacks. Sea Demons, the Whale Lord, and Strange Mud

Following a man surnamed Liu, Yang Yong witnesses his transformation into a Sea Demon. Chen Gen stops him from attacking, allowing them to observe thousands more emerging from the shore 249.

He later conceals the Two-Colored Strange Mud from Chen Gen and discovers its usefulness as a rapid growing medium. Planting a Screaming Wax Apple seed produces a tree covered in screaming human faces 280.

His dealings with Chen Gen also take him into the Whale Lord’s digestive system. After an exhausting use of the White Bone Ring’s complete form, he suggests enormous sweet potato broth as a possible aid for Li Haijian’s unconscious sister. Cao Xianming subsequently explains the virus-like spread of the Corpse Worms that turn hosts into Sea Demons 282 297 298.

Tuanjie Village and Cause-and-Effect Scissors

Yang Yong, Wang Ying, and Liu Hong cross an eerie old house while searching for supplies, unwittingly allowing supernatural inhabitants to follow them. Their warehouse expedition brings Yang Yong into contact with the old tailor Eerie 347 349.

He later finds himself in a past-like Tuanjie Village, where the Qipao Woman appears alive as the Song Family Eldest Miss. Unable to leave the village, he gathers information while accompanied by Wang Ying’s otherwise unseen blade spirit 354 355.

When his sealed perceptions return, he regains access to his artifacts and supernatural abilities. Following these events, he possesses the Cause-and-Effect Scissors but initially considers them too dangerous to use freely because their price leaves wounds that must heal naturally 357 367.

Yezi and the Netherworld Ancient Tree

A vine-covered woman who has followed the convoy clings to Yang Yong and falls asleep against him. Cao Xianming and Mang Dabiao determine that she has gone months without sleep and regards him as her only family. Named Yezi, she becomes a constant companion whom he begins caring for 411 412 414.

When Wang Ying is captured by a man-eating tree, Yang Yong and Yezi attempt a rescue. Yezi’s sacrifice for him profoundly changes his understanding of her, while the ensuing struggle forces him to draw on two powerful Eeries and manifest a body covered in eyes and bone armor 419 420 425 430.

He survives severely exhausted. Afterward, he discovers Yezi’s soul as the banner’s fourth main soul and finds a mysterious black seed being worked on inside the furnace 436 446.

Mechanical City and Advanced Cultivation

After further travels, including a battle against a flesh monster obstructing rune-covered alloy doors, the convoy enters Mechanical City. Yang Yong quickly notices the hotel’s surveillance, isolation, and supply costs, and sends the White-Clothed Love Letter Ghost to investigate 505 517.

He obtains an Ideal Grain Seed and seeks a means of shielding the convoy from outside observation. Mang Dabiao points him toward Yezi’s concealing domain. During his cultivation, he forces open the furnace’s apertures from sixty-one to ninety-four 549 550.

A mysterious little girl guides him to forge the Shadow-Killing Blade. He later survives Wang Hongyu’s capture and attempted supernatural-power sealing, with his bone armor’s spikes puncturing the talismans 558 570 572.

Appointed Third Elder, he gains access to Mechanical City’s supernatural power. His first disciple kills six Transcendents in her first battle. When children are kidnapped, he uses the Red-Clothed Female Ghost to locate them beneath an abandoned school and plans an ambush rather than allowing Long Ya to assault the defended site alone 697 706 710.

Red Blessing and the Three-Thousand-Blade Heavenly Dragon Slash

Investigating Red Blessing, Yang Yong discovers Eerie Domain nests and human victims treated as breeding stock. He warns Long Ya not to eat or touch anything provided by the organization 709.

He later returns to Long Ya and the refugees, confronting Red Blessing with a re-refined Heavenly Dragon Slash containing three thousand throwing knives. Its automatic defense renders concentrated gunfire ineffective 725.

The expanded weapon also becomes a metal tornado during his encounter with the Man-Faced Centipede, although he deliberately holds back to avoid frightening away the creature’s distant final segment 735.

Black Water Marsh and Huang Pi

Traveling with Long Ya and Liu San, Yang Yong becomes involved with the Yellow Immortals and Black Water Marsh. Hermit Xu Bai asks him to rescue Huang Santainai, offers array knowledge, and identifies a connection between her master and the furnace’s previous wielder 763.

Yang Yong investigates a scroll, buried slab, and iron chain whose patterns suggest related keys. He subsequently uses three thousand flying blades as a drill against the barrier beneath a well 767 774.

Before descending, he leaves instructions that Long Ya should head east and not return if he fails to emerge. Inside the supernatural space, he destroys Huang Pi’s body and seals his soul in the Four-Yang God-Sealing Banner. Huang Santainai accepts the outcome because Huang Pi had devoured his clansmen’s souls 775 780.

The furnace then abruptly carries Yang Yong into another spatial displacement. Meanwhile, Cao Xianming and the Survival Convoy continue searching for him in the Wasteland 780.

Earth Dragon Pursuit and Unease over Jiang Chen

Yang Yong later finds himself targeted by an Earth Dragon that continues tracking him despite repeated teleportation around a village. At the same time, he becomes disturbed by the possibility that Yezi remains tied to Jiang Chen’s ownership and that the Corpse Ancestor’s earlier blood-essence gift was part of a calculated arrangement 794.
