Background and History
Debt, awakening, and entry into martial cultivation
Wei Sheng initially wanted to run a small business, but harassment by a wealthy youth, tax collectors, and gangsters drove him into the Fish-Dragon Gang. Even there, Niu Er bullied him and demanded twelve taels from him and his younger brother, Wei He, despite their parents having already repaid the debt before leaving for canal labor 1.
After recovering memories of his previous life, Wei Sheng discovered that an antique bronze bell he had once acquired had followed him into this world. Its Nine-Breath Qi Ingestion talent provided the Dao Origin he used to master Savage Bull Fist. He then ambushed and killed Niu Er and his two followers, finding himself unexpectedly calm during his first killings in this life 1 2.
His early goals were to protect Wei He and become strong enough to rescue their parents. He began pursuing the Twelve Refinements while receiving instruction and resources from Fire Ox 3 9.
Rise through the Fish-Dragon Gang
Wei Sheng’s rapid mastery of Savage Bull Fist earned recognition at the Gaoliu Branch Hall. Sent against Zhang Yan’s Golden Goose Gang, he defeated its members, crushed Zhang Yan’s wrists, and demanded his lightness technique in exchange for sparing him 6 10 12.
Conflict with the Hong Family became personal when its eldest master targeted Wei He. After killing Steward Hong and Sun Dayou, Wei Sheng moved his brother near Fire Ox’s residence for protection. Discovering that the Hong Family had also murdered Sun Li and his mother strengthened his determination to secure his family’s future through martial power 16 17 20.
After perfecting skin refinement, Wei Sheng defeated Huang Man’er and forced Violent Bear back. Black Tiger appointed him Weiyuan Hall’s fifth Tiger General, granting him cultivation resources and a flesh-refining method 24 34.
He subsequently reclaimed East Prosperity Street, Gatehouse Street, and Jingkong Street. His victories over Snake Eye’s faction and Feng Li Dao established the reputation of the Descending Mountain Tiger 40 42 44 49 50.
White Crane discipleship and the White Lotus Cult
A White Lotus Cult assassin pursued Wei Sheng and Wei He, injured Wei Sheng with Old Mother Thinks of You Palm, and was driven off by Black Tiger and Jiang Liuchuan. Wei Sheng later joined Fang Heting’s White Crane Martial Arts Hall, gaining another powerful protector 53 56.
He fused his flesh-refining methods, received assistance from Yu Qianji, and eventually ambushed and killed the White Lotus Envoy. Among the envoy’s possessions were the Old Mother Thinks of You Palm manual and a Red Lotus True Intention Diagram 58 62 72.
After reaching Nine Refinements in secret, Wei Sheng formally became the hall’s sole True Disciple. He continued displaying only Six Refinements strength while improving his tendons, concealment, and Clear-Crane martial arts 73 76 78.
External Affairs Envoy and Black Mountain’s rebellion
Wei Sheng sought higher standing partly to mobilize the Fish-Dragon Gang’s connections in the search for his parents. With Black Tiger’s recommendation, he entered the External Affairs Envoy selection and secured the appointment, placing him on a level comparable to the gang’s hall masters 78 79 81.
His duties brought him to the Caishi Shoal mine and into conflict with bandits in Wild Boar Forest. He later took Azure Dragon Hall and used Red Lotus Flame Force to remove the Flesh-and-Blood Gu afflicting Jiang Liuchuan 81 83 90.
During the bandit-suppression expedition, Wei Sheng killed Wen Tailai and adopted his identity to act without exposing his own strength. In the subsequent struggle with the Hong Family and White Lotus forces, he exposed Hong Chengyuan’s practice of feeding people to a demon and advanced to Twelve Refinements 94 96 102 105.
Following the rebellion’s suppression, he assessed his spoils and resumed cultivation. Yu Qianji recommended him to the Double-Pupil Guards, giving him a token and instructions to report to Sishui Prefecture 109.
Sishui Prefecture and Wutai Academy
Wei Sheng reunited with his mother, though his father’s fate remained uncertain. He became a Black-Pupil Guard and entered Wutai Academy’s Kui Water Court, where he sought the resources needed to cross into the Martial Arts Master realm 112 116.
Recognizing that the five courts’ true arts had once belonged to a complete art, he obtained Kun Earth True Art through a wager with Qin Kun rather than using Kui Water True Art to cultivate his spleen. Earth-Element Great Medicine then enabled his breakthrough to Martial Arts Master 116 118.
During operations against the Giant Whale Gang, Wei Sheng seized substantial wealth and killed Xu Jing aboard a treasure ship. When hostile groups began watching his household, he eliminated their local leaders and moved his mother, Wei He, and Wei Shu to Wutai Academy 124 126.
After advancing to the Second Organ realm, he completed dangerous missions on Giant Ao Island, killed Wang Xiao, and obtained rare cultivation materials. His rewards funded the Primordial Chaos Art and Myriad Transformations Art; the former enabled him to fuse multiple Jin Forces 127 129 132 137.
By this point, his defeat of a Third-Organ opponent and mastery of saber intent had prompted comparisons with the Ten Elites. He nevertheless continued preparing for the Third Organ realm and seeking stronger equipment 137 139.
Appearance
- Build and bearing: Well-proportioned and solid, with an upright bearing, a stern face, and cold, dark eyes 16.
- Flesh Divine Palace form: Grows to roughly two meters or taller; his skin turns blue-black, and sharply defined muscles resemble weathered mountain ranges without appearing excessively bulky 58 62 94.
- Disguises: Can alter his facial appearance to resemble Sang Qi and later uses Wen Tailai’s identity 69 96.
- Guard uniform: Receives a custom-fitted Black-Pupil Guard uniform rather than the ready-made clothing issued to White-Pupil Guards 112.
Personality
Wei Sheng’s ambition is rooted in a desire for security rather than his original wish for status. He initially wanted a peaceful livelihood, but repeated exploitation convinced him that strength was necessary to control his fate and protect his family. His concern extends beyond immediate rescue: he supplies Wei He with medicines, personally teaches him, and relocates his household when enemies threaten it 1 20 120 126.
He is ruthless toward enemies but careful about consequences. He confirms Niu Er’s death with additional stabs, yet deliberately allows Snake Eye to escape when pursuit might expose his strength and provoke retaliation against Wei He. Concealing his cultivation, fighting through borrowed identities, and selecting advantageous moments are recurring habits 2 42 73 96.
Wei Sheng rewards assistance and values old relationships. He compensates A Chang for injuries, respects Black Tiger for saving his life, and remains friendly toward former companions despite the widening gap in their status. He also genuinely enjoys cultivation: visible progress turns training that others find tedious into a source of pleasure 7 73 105 137.
Abilities and Skills
Nine-Breath Qi Ingestion and Dao Origin
The Ancient Bronze Bell converts the power of heaven and earth into Dao Origin through nine breaths each day 1.
- Daily yield: One Dao Origin point per day 1.
- Cultivation conversion: Each point provides the experience and effects of one uninterrupted year of arduous practice, rather than a normal year containing rest and other activities 1.
- Deduction and simulation: Accumulating ten points unlocks additional deduction and simulation functions 10.
- Method fusion: Uses Dao Origin to combine multiple cultivation methods into more complete arts 24 58 86.
- Resource synergy: Natural treasures can improve results and reduce the time required for advancement 58 113.
- Limits: Dao Origin does not make resources irrelevant. Thirteen simulated years fail to break his third spleen shackle, convincing him to seek more Great Medicine instead 118.
Four Extremes Body-Tempering Method
Wei Sheng’s self-created method combines the perfected results of skin, flesh, tendon, and bone refinement 110.
| Trait | Function |
|---|---|
| Skin Abyss | Provides defenses that ordinary gang weapons cannot penetrate; few Fourth Refinement practitioners can break through it 42. |
| Flesh Divine Palace | Transforms his physique and doubles his existing physical strength when first completed 58. |
| Flood Dragon Tendons and Dragon Veins | Greatly increases explosive power and allows Jin Force to follow his will throughout his body without delay 86. |
| Bone Divine Mountain | Completes his body-tempering foundation, bringing one-arm strength to 129,600 jin before his Martial Arts Master breakthrough 110. |
- Teaching difficulty: The method takes more than ten times as long to practice as ordinary body-tempering methods. Wei He advances with extensive resources and Wei Sheng’s detailed instruction 120.
Saber Arts
Tiger-Howling Saber Technique is Wei Sheng’s principal early weapon art, later supplemented by Blade Force and saber intent 44 120 124.
- Tiger Baleful Intent: Manifests through soul-shaking tiger roars and tiger-shaped saber attacks; also serves as a counterattack against the White Lotus assassin’s illusory palm 44 53 62.
- Li Fire Saber Intent: Used to kill Xu Jing aboard the Giant Whale Gang’s treasure ship 124.
- Weapon reinforcement: Saber intent compensates for the Refined Edge Saber’s declining effectiveness, but does not remove the need for a stronger weapon 139.
Fist, Palm, and True Intention Arts
- Savage Bull Fist: His first martial art; perfected movements become deeply ingrained instincts, allowing him to overwhelm ordinary gang members without revealing refinement-level strength 1 12.
- Great Strength Bull Demon Palm: Develops Bull-Demon Palm Force; used to cripple the White Lotus Envoy 72 110.
- Crane Shadow Floating in the Sky: A Clear-Crane true art that channels tendon power into explosive punches. At perfection, it carries White Crane Fist Intention 76 100 110.
- Old Mother Thinks of You Palm: Acquired from the White Lotus Envoy and cultivated to perfection 72 76.
- Thunderbolt Hand: Perfected to support his impersonation of Wen Tailai 96.
- Raging Waves True Intention: His fourth True Intention; even a partially powered palm leaves an imprint more than a foot deep in a wall 137.
Movement Arts
- Golden Goose Art: His early lightness technique, developed through weighted training and eventually perfected 15 17 24.
- Penglai Misty Steps: Produces four directional afterimages lasting three seconds at great accomplishment; later reaches perfection with the True Intention of Wind 110 129.
- Wind Shadow Without Trace: Perfected using his existing movement foundation; provides escape options against opponents several organ realms above him 117.
- Stealth applications: Perfected movement and True Intention allow him to leave Wutai Academy undetected while avoiding the areas occupied by Five-Organ experts 139.
Concealment and Disguise
- Form-Transmutation Art: Recorded at perfection; supports his use of altered appearances and borrowed identities 69 96 110.
- Breath Concealment Art: At perfection, makes his true body-tempering cultivation difficult even for Twelve Refinements experts to discern 73.
- Body-tempering limit: The earlier concealment art becomes inadequate after his Martial Arts Master breakthrough 118.
- Turtle-Breath Hibernating Dragon Technique: Conceals him effectively until Wang Xiao detects him at close range using Snake School sensitivity to blood qi 131.
Defensive and Internal Arts
- Tiger-Roaring Golden Bell: Combines powerful protection with his tiger-themed martial foundation. After his First-Organ breakthrough, he judges that almost no one below Third Organ can break its defense 118.
- Red Lotus Flame Force: Burns Flesh-and-Blood Gu power and grows by absorbing it; initially dangerous because condensing it nearly exhausts his vital blood 90.
- Primordial Chaos Art: Creates an internal bridge that reconciles Kun Earth, Geng Metal, and Giant Whale Jin Forces. Red Lotus Flame Force initially rejects their combined force 137.
- Four Symbols Arrow: Adds a long-range option to his fist-and-saber repertoire, allowing him to attack dangerous mission targets without approaching them 127 129.
Equipment and Items
