The group followed the tracks along the mountain path, heading deeper into the remote mountain woods.
Qu Zan suddenly caught the stench of rotting corpses.
Not only he, but Guocuo also smelled something.
Guocuo said, "I smell something strange. It seems to be the stench of corpses."
Before he had finished speaking, a figure appeared in the shadows.
It was a female corpse dressed in white hemp cloth.
The figure wore tattered clothing, her hair like dried highland barley stalks. Several patches of her scalp were bare, exposing dark red flesh.
As she walked barefoot, her flesh scraped against the ground.
Their horses all spooked, stamping uneasily and neighing without pause, clearly frightened.
"Th-this isn't a living person! Gyatso, this..." Guocuo had rarely encountered supernatural horrors, so the sight of the female corpse terrified him.
When the female corpse met Guocuo's gaze,
Her eyes were filled with dead silence and indifference, without a trace of a living person's vitality. In an instant, Guocuo felt as though his blood had frozen. His heart pounded faster, almost leaping out of his mouth.
The female corpse's face was badly rotted, with scarcely a patch of intact flesh. Her skin had peeled away, exposing white teeth and dark red gums.
"Ah!"
Guocuo tugged repeatedly at the reins, trying to make his horse run, but the frightened animal only circled in place. Corpses were closing in from behind as well.
At this terrifying, sinister sight, Guocuo was scared out of his wits, repeating, "We're finished, we're finished."
The other Warrior Monks drew their knives in fright. But they all doubted whether the blades in their hands could deal with these ghosts and monsters.
Controlling his Blood Shadow Body, Qu Zan asked, "Is this your first encounter with the supernatural?"
"Yes!" Guocuo's teeth chattered.
"No wonder."
