Ch. 31Promotion to rear admiral!

After Xiu defeated Golden Lion, the Five Elders approved his promotion to vice admiral, and Marine leaders recognized him as one of their strongest fighters. Sengoku and Vice Admiral Tsuru planned to send him to the East Blue ahead of Roger’s public execution, while Big Mom’s invitation to her Tea Party raised a new concern.

  • Xiu resumed training, and Gion took his hand as Sengoku and Garp watched in surprise.
  • The Five Elders learned that Xiu had dealt with Golden Lion and approved his promotion to vice admiral.
  • Sengoku learned that Big Mom had invited Xiu to her Tea Party, but Vice Admiral Tsuru advised waiting because Xiu’s strength ranked at the very top.

Ch. 33Foosha Village

Era Xiu arrived in Loguetown on a mission to purge the East Blue and quickly confronted the Azure Ocean Pirates. He killed Kazu and the other pirates with his Fire Huan technique, then prepared to continue his mission.

  • Xiu traveled toward Loguetown with his adjutant Hina and lamented being separated from Gion after their recent relationship began.
  • Hina reported that the Azure Ocean Pirates, the strongest pirates in the East Blue, were in Loguetown.
  • Xiu ordered the warship not to dock and went directly to the tavern where Captain Kazu was drinking.

  • Xiu snapped his fingers and used Fire Huan to burn Kazu and the other pirates to death.

Ch. 34In swordsmanship, there is no strongest, only stronger!

After leaving Foosha Village, Xiu sailed to Shimotsuki Village to seek insight into swordsmanship. On the way to the dojo, he met the young Dracule Mihawk, who recognized him as the swordsman who fought Whitebeard to a draw and challenged him to a spar.

  • Xiu introduced himself as a swordsman and accepted Mihawk's challenge.

Ch. 36A clash of swordsmanship

Vice Admiral Xiu tested Mihawk’s swordsmanship with a branch, then defeated him with a powerful slash. After Mihawk passed out, Xiu met Koshiro, who treated Mihawk and invited Xiu and Hina to the dojo.

  • Xiu put away Ryūjin Jakka and challenged Mihawk with a tree branch, blocking Mihawk’s attack by coating it in Reiatsu.
  • Mihawk apologized for his earlier attitude and launched his strongest move, Night Flash-Cross Slash, at Xiu.
  • Xiu countered with Support Slash, cut Mihawk across the chest, and recognized his determination to become the world’s greatest swordsman before Mihawk passed out.
  • Hina worried over Mihawk, and Xiu assured her he would recover because Koshiro was nearby.
  • Koshiro emerged from behind a tree, bandaged Mihawk, and invited Xiu and Hina to his dojo.

Ch. 37Defeat, an invitation, and that man's arrival!

Xiu defeated Koshiro in a swordsmanship match and gained new insight from their exchange. Dragon then appeared in Shimotsuki Village, revealed that he had formed an army to reform the world, and invited Xiu to join him against the World Government.

  • Xiu countered Koshiro’s secret technique with a powerful slash that cut off part of a nearby mountain, decisively defeating him.
  • Xiu thanked Koshiro for the guidance and reflected on what he had learned from their sword fight.
  • Xiu sensed someone approaching, and Dragon appeared before him and the others.
  • Dragon told Xiu and Hina that he had formed an army and intended to leave the Marines and sever ties with the World Government.
  • Dragon explained that he wanted to reform the world and invited Xiu to join him in overthrowing the World Government.

Ch. 39Charlotte Oven! The Heat-Heat Fruit?

Xiu refused Dragon’s invitation to join the Revolutionary Army and let him leave, then set sail with Hina for Loguetown ahead of Roger’s execution. Three days into the voyage, Hina spotted the Big Mom Pirates in the East Blue, leaving Xiu wondering why Charlotte Linlin’s crew was there.

  • Dragon invited Xiu to join the Revolutionary Army, but Xiu refused and said he would let Dragon go for Garp’s sake.
  • Dragon returned to his ship and sailed away after collecting food supplies from Koshiro.

  • Xiu killed Oven and destroyed his pirate ship, then returned to his warship as the Marines praised his strength and Hina worried about how to keep up with him.
  • Katakuri and Daifuku told Big Mom that Oven had been killed by Era Xiu, and Big Mom erupted in fury and ordered Katakuri to kill Xiu.
  • Katakuri deduced that Xiu was near Loguetown and set out with Daifuku to avenge Oven.
  • Three days later, Xiu arrived in Loguetown, ordered the Marines to maintain order and kill pirates who caused violence, and was told that a Big Mom Pirate Crew ship had appeared.

Ch. 42A crushing defeat, a warning

  • Pirates spread the news and gathered near the deserted island, but none dared go ashore.

Ch. 43Morgans, Subdued

After returning to Loguetown, Xiu forced Morgans into his service by giving him a new power tied to a threat against his life. Morgans left under orders to keep their relationship secret, while the document he brought revealed the time of Big Mom’s Tea Party and its confirmed guests.

  • Three pirates found Katakuri grievously wounded, carried him aboard their ship, and headed out to sea, hoping to join Big Mom’s pirate crew.
  • In Loguetown, Morgans visited Xiu and gave him a document listing the date of Big Mom’s upcoming Tea Party and its confirmed attendees.
  • Xiu used his Reiatsu to give Morgans the power to create flames, then warned that Morgans’s life belonged to him and that disobedience would make him explode.
  • Morgans knelt and pledged obedience, and Xiu ordered him to continue his work without revealing their relationship.

Ch. 45Bootlicker Morgans, Big Mom's Hatred!

After Xiu forced Morgans to become his subordinate in Loguetown, Morgans flew to Mary Geoise to complain to the Five Elders and demand Xiu’s true identity. The Five Elders stopped him from insulting Xiu, and after Imu allowed them to reveal a little, they warned Morgans he might regret learning the truth.

  • Morgans left Loguetown furious and afraid, then flew to Mary Geoise to seek an audience with the Five Elders.
  • Kong escorted Morgans to the meeting room and listened as Morgans complained that Xiu had set him up.
  • Morgans burst into the meeting room and recounted what Xiu had done, but the Five Elders grew nervous as they listened.
  • The Fifth Elder covered Morgans’ mouth when he started to curse Xiu, and Morgans realized the Five Elders feared the Marine.
  • Morgans invoked his agreement with the Five Elders and demanded to know Xiu’s relationship with the World Government.
  • Imu told the Five Elders they could reveal a little, and the First Elder warned Morgans not to regret hearing the truth.

Ch. 46The Devil's Offspring, Sengoku's Dilemma

Xiu agreed to fight Bullet on a deserted island and decided he would pursue the rank of Marine Admiral to gain some peace. At Marineford, Zephyr resigned as an Admiral, prompting Sengoku to reconsider his candidates and summon Kuzan.

  • Xiu accepted Bullet's challenge to fight on a nearby deserted island instead of in Loguetown.
  • Xiu decided to become a Marine Admiral as soon as possible.
  • Sengoku reviewed Kizaru, Akainu, Kuzan, and Xiu as Admiral candidates, weighing Xiu's strength against his lack of completed missions.
  • Zephyr submitted his resignation as an Admiral, explaining that he would remain the Elite Class's chief instructor.
  • Sengoku accepted Zephyr's resignation and called Kuzan, who was still a day or two from Marineford, to his office.
  • Kuzan wondered why Sengoku's call gave him a bad feeling and pedaled faster toward Marineford.

Ch. 48Bullet: You're far stronger than Roger!

Xiu fought Douglas Bullet on Crimson War Island, overwhelming him with close combat and a fully chanted Sōkatsui. Bullet survived with a devastating abdominal wound and, with only minutes left before he might die, challenged Xiu to keep fighting.

  • Xiu beckoned Bullet to attack, then caught both of Bullet’s Armament Haki-coated fists with ease.
  • Xiu kicked Bullet in the chin and launched him into a distant mountain.
  • Xiu appeared before the embedded Bullet and blasted him with a fully chanted Sōkatsui.
  • Bullet used Demon Form to resist the attack, but the flames tore through his defenses and destroyed much of his abdomen.
  • Bullet plugged his wound with rock, estimated he had five minutes to live, and challenged Xiu to keep fighting to the death.

Ch. 49This ends here, Bullet

Xiu defeated Bullet and granted his wish to die, then left the deserted island. With five days until Roger’s execution, Kaido arrived at Whole Cake Island, where Big Mom discussed Xiu’s attacks on her family before Cracker announced a woman’s arrival.

  • Bullet absorbed the pirate ships into his monster and fired two cannons at Xiu, but Xiu split the cannonballs and cut the monster in two.
  • Xiu recognized that Bullet wanted to die because he had lost his goal of surpassing Roger, then killed him with azure flames.
  • Xiu watched Bullet turn to ashes, reflected on Roger’s charm, and left the island.

  • Big Mom and Kaido discussed Stussy’s repeated visits and Big Mom’s failed attempts to recruit her before Stussy arrived.
  • Stussy asked Big Mom about the Marine who had angered her, and Big Mom recounted what Xiu had done.
  • Stussy recalled that the Five Elders had ordered her to protect Xiu in secret, then withdrawn the orders after he killed Golden Lion.
  • Stussy suggested that Big Mom’s invitation had failed because a Marine would naturally attack a pirate sent to fetch him.
  • Stussy offered to hold a special Tea Party for Xiu and invite him personally, leaving Big Mom and Kaido astonished.

Ch. 52Step one of being a suck-up: perfectly completed!

After Stussy asked Morgans to introduce her to Xiu, Morgans flew to Loguetown and mistook Xiu’s presence for a reason to pledge his loyalty. He then told Xiu that Stussy wanted to meet him, leaving Xiu puzzled about her motives.

  • Stussy asked Morgans to introduce her to the Marine, and Morgans agreed despite privately worrying about how Xiu might react.

  • Xiu accepted Morgans’s pledge and asked what had happened.
  • Morgans told Xiu that Stussy, the Queen of the Pleasure District, wanted to get to know him, and Xiu wondered why she had not simply asked the Five Elders.

Ch. 54Found Out!

Morgans relayed Xiu’s terms to Stussy, who set out for Loguetown to meet him. Big Mom believed Stussy was trying to persuade Xiu to attend her Tea Party, while Stussy looked forward to meeting the man the Five Elders had ordered protected.

  • Xiu told Morgans that Stussy could meet him only that day, and Morgans agreed to pass on the message.

  • Stussy deduced that Morgans was Xiu’s subordinate, and Xiu told Morgans to step aside.
  • Stussy gave Xiu an invitation to Big Mom’s private tea party, which Xiu suspected she had arranged to get a private meeting with him.
  • Stussy felt inexplicable fear when she met Xiu’s gaze, then asked whether he had any connection to the World Government.
  • Xiu questioned why Stussy did not investigate the matter herself and revealed that he knew she was a CP intelligence agent.
  • Stussy was left shocked by Xiu’s accusation.

Ch. 57Won over! A warning from Morgans!

Vice Admiral Xiu revealed that he knew Stussy’s identity, then overwhelmed her after she tried to kill him. Morgans persuaded Xiu to spare Stussy because she could be useful, and Xiu punished her with Byakurai.

  • Xiu told Stussy he knew her identity and directed her to the World Government for information about him.
  • Stussy threatened to stop Xiu from leaving and attacked him with Flying Finger Pistol.

  • Morgans told Stussy that Big Mom had her eye on her and shared intelligence he had gathered from the seagulls.
  • Stussy went to Xiu’s office at the Marine Branch and reported Big Mom’s interest, along with her own suspicions.
  • Xiu said he could not deal with Big Mom immediately because he had to help prepare for Roger’s execution in Loguetown.
  • Stussy proposed accepting Big Mom’s Tea Party invitation and scheduling the gathering after Roger’s execution.
  • Xiu approved Stussy’s plan and told her to proceed.

Ch. 60Big Mom's compromise, Impel Down!
