Vol. 2The Five Chips
Goten helped Konoha face Sasuke’s departure, the Akatsuki, and threats tied to ancient gates, while building a family and uncovering the Chips’ purpose. The volume ended with a black liquid eyeball forcing its way through the Stone Gate beneath Konoha.
- Tsunade returned to Konoha as Hokage, and Goten sensed sinister chakra near the group. Goten fought Sasuke and the Sound Four but let Sasuke leave with Orochimaru, then joined the pursuit and helped return Sasuke’s scratched forehead protector to Konoha.
- Goten comforted Sakura as she promised him her heart, while Naruto left with Jiraiya to train. After Naruto returned three years later and challenged him at Ichiraku, Goten sent him flying through the shop.
- Goten trained Naruto in ki and helped Team 7 rescue Gaara from the Akatsuki, healing Kankuro and Sakura before defeating Sasori. Sakura and Temari became his wives, and Ino later pursued him as well.
- Goten investigated a fragment and document pointing beneath Konoha, then Tsunade made him captain of the Special Reinforcement Squad. Team 7 set out to investigate Orochimaru’s agent and possibly retrieve Sasuke.
- Goten intervened in Team 7’s mission, subdued Orochimaru and Naruto, and rescued Sai while confronting Sasuke. He later traveled east, rescued Trunks from the Watchers, and learned Trunks had found three Chip Fragments.
- Goten and Trunks combined their five fragments and discovered that the gate beneath Hokage Rock responded to them. Trunks identified symbols on Tsunade’s scroll, while the Chips pulsed in response to a stronger presence beneath the gate.
- Goten and Trunks dismantled Danzo’s Root operation, and Goten defeated Pain while leaving Nagato alive. They discovered that the five Chips and Yamato’s altered cells were connected to a network of gates.
- Goten used the crystal formed from the Chips to stop the force beneath Ichiraku and stabilize Yamato, then pledged to guard the sealed threat. Tsunade saw a black liquid eyeball squeeze through the Stone Gate’s narrow gap.
