Son Goten joined Team 7 and used his overwhelming physical strength to pass Kakashi’s test and protect his teammates during the mission to escort Tazuna. In the Land of Waves, he defeated Gato’s men and tried to persuade Haku to leave Zabuza, but Haku remained devoted to his master.

• Son Goten graduated from the Ninja Academy, befriended Naruto, and joined Team 7 with Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura.
• Son Goten overwhelmed Kakashi during the bell test, but Team 7 passed when Naruto shared his bell with Sasuke.
• Team 7 completed D-rank missions before escorting Tazuna to the Land of Waves, where Son Goten stopped the Demon Brothers and Zabuza’s water clone.
• Son Goten freed Kakashi from Zabuza’s Water Prison, then mistook Haku for a woman and pursued him despite Haku’s attempts to escape.
• Son Goten met Haku in the forest and learned that Haku was a boy devoted to Zabuza, leaving him stunned and determined to prove otherwise.
• Son Goten shattered Haku’s ice mirrors and caught him during the battle, then stopped Kakashi from striking Haku with the Lightning Blade.
• Son Goten defeated Gato’s armed thugs, took Gato’s money and jewelry, and threw Gato into the sea.
• Son Goten gave Haku half the spoils and suggested he buy pink dresses, while Zabuza led Haku away and Sakura scolded Son Goten.

Son Goten carried Team 7 through the Forest of Death, confronted Orochimaru, and brought Karin with them to the Central Tower. At the preliminary matches, he defeated Kiba, then intervened when Neji attacked Hinata.

• Son Goten complained about his mission reward, bonded with Anko, bought tools from Tenten, and demonstrated his abilities to Jiraiya at the bathhouse.
• Son Goten protected Konohamaru from Kankuro, unnerved Gaara, and later watched Rock Lee defeat Sasuke before Might Guy stopped the fight.
• Son Goten copied Hinata’s answers to pass the written exam, then entered the Forest of Death with Team 7 and killed giant creatures for food.
• Orochimaru confronted Son Goten after he ate the giant snake, failed to harm him, and placed the Cursed Seal of Heaven on Sasuke before escaping.
• Son Goten helped Anko recover from her Cursed Seal pain, then rescued Karin from a bear and insisted that she join Team 7 as their spoils of war.
• Team 7 reached the Central Tower with both scrolls, and Iruka confirmed their passage to the preliminary matches despite Son Goten’s insistence that Karin could stay.
• Son Goten defeated Kiba and Akamaru by stopping their Fang Over Fang attack with one finger, then cheered Hinata as she fought Neji.
• When Neji charged at the fallen Hinata with a lethal strike, Son Goten leaped into the arena and confronted him.

Son Goten protected injured contestants, prepared for the finals, and confronted the threat of the Konoha Crush while pursuing Temari. The arc left him facing Temari and a partially transformed Gaara as the invasion unfolded.

• Son Goten stopped Neji from attacking Hinata, healed her with ki, and later carried Sakura and Ino to the medical team after their match ended in a draw.
• Rock Lee suffered devastating injuries against Gaara, and Son Goten used a Soldier Pill and ki to restore sensation to Lee’s limbs and encourage his recovery.
• Son Goten trained with Jiraiya and Naruto, saved Gekko Hayate from Baki and Kabuto, and frightened Gaara into abandoning his attack on Rock Lee at the hospital.
• Son Goten watched Dosu die at Gaara’s hands, then warned Naruto to win at the finals after Naruto successfully summoned Gamabunta.
• At the finals, Naruto defeated Neji, Shikamaru forfeited to Temari, and Sasuke wounded Gaara with Chidori before a genjutsu put the spectators to sleep.
• Son Goten woke Hinata, Ino, and Sakura as Sound Ninja launched the Konoha Crush, then rescued Kakashi and pursued Temari, Kankuro, and Gaara through the forest.
• Son Goten stopped Kankuro and Temari from escaping, while Gaara transformed part of his body into Shukaku’s form and turned his attention toward Son Goten.

Son Goten helped defend Konoha from Orochimaru and Itachi, then traveled with Jiraiya and Naruto to find Tsunade. After protecting Tsunade and helping Naruto master the Rasengan, Goten helped drive Orochimaru away, and Tsunade agreed to return to Konoha as a tiny white snake watched them.

• Son Goten stopped Shukaku’s rampage, woke Gaara, and left Temari behind as he flew to Konoha.
• Son Goten broke Orochimaru’s barrier, saved Hiruzen, and forced the Hokage to promise him unlimited ramen before Orochimaru escaped.
• Son Goten disrupted Itachi and Kisame’s attack, while Itachi injured Sasuke and escaped with him after using Amaterasu.
• Son Goten joined Jiraiya and Naruto on their search for Tsunade, then met Tsunade and wagered a kiss against Naruto learning the Rasengan in seven days.
• Son Goten helped Tsunade win at the casino, comforted her over Orochimaru’s offer to revive Dan and Nawaki, and rescued her when Kabuto attacked.
• Son Goten helped Tsunade overcome her fear of blood, while Naruto used the Rasengan against Kabuto and Orochimaru escaped underground.
• Son Goten let Tsunade stop him from pursuing Orochimaru, and Tsunade gave Naruto the First Hokage’s Necklace and kissed Goten to settle their bet.
