Appearance

  • Features: Described as a cold, aloof beauty with slender brows, bright eyes, and long hair 155 157 360.
  • Early clothing: Wears fitted black martial attire associated with her youthful, fiery temperament 380 608.
  • Formation battle attire: Wears billowing purple robes while descending with the star-powered silver spear during the ancient cave abode expedition 157.
  • After the long separation: Wears a blue robe once belonging to Mu Bai. Nearly fifty years of waiting leave sorrow on her face and longing in her eyes 608.

Personality

Xing Yun initially presents an aloof exterior, answering Wu Daoyi’s advances with little more than a faint smile. Beneath that reserve, she is proud, competitive, and playful: she challenges Mu Bai to prove himself against his opponents and openly jokes about marriage before their first major fight 155 156.

Her affection for Mu Bai brings out a gentler, more considerate side without erasing her temper. She teases him relentlessly, calls him a “blockhead,” and refuses to accept the removal of his Divine Seal as sufficient redress for branding her. When a stranger harasses her in the market, she immediately slaps him 235 236 380.

She wants Mu Bai’s genuine love rather than affection obtained through coercion or enchantment. Within Yuyusheng’s Spring-Bathing Realm, she injures herself to retain clarity and ultimately cuts her throat rather than submit to the illusion. Yuyusheng explicitly admires her remaining self-respect and awareness 239.

Xing Yun also values harmony. She acknowledges feeling jealous of Wu Meng but chooses to trust Mu Bai, and later uses music to reconcile Hu Meier and Ling Jinyu without surrendering her own place as his beloved. Her ideal of humans and beasts living as one family becomes an aspiration Mu Bai publicly adopts 300 362 372.

Abilities & Skills

Soul Archery

Xing Yun specializes in ranged combat with a Crystal Soul Bow, combining rapid movement with repeated Soul Arrow attacks 156 234.

  • Fires volleys while continually changing position in the air 156.
  • Sends seven arrows toward seven Eastern Nether Great Tribe cultivators during Mu Bai’s escape 158.
  • Nocks nine arrows simultaneously when surrounded by military jailers 251.
  • Can deliberately create a conspicuous battle to attract nearby troops rather than focus solely on killing her opponent 234.
  • Limit: Mu Bai’s strengthened body eventually becomes impervious to her arrows during their first battle 156.

Soul Marks

Her third Soul Mark manifests a Seven-Colored Peacock Soul Spirit, which spreads its brilliant tail feathers during her confrontation at the military prison 251.

  • Its appearance intimidates the surrounding jailers into hesitating 251.
  • A stronger prison official nevertheless breaks all nine of her prepared arrows with a wave of his hand 251.

Formation Arts

Xing Yun inherits the Star Great Tribe’s ancient Array Offering tradition, which draws upon stellar power 233.

  • Recognizes and overcomes the concealment formation hiding Ox-Head and Horse-Face’s attack on Wu Meng 233 234.
  • Repairs the minor sword damage to the Black Silk Flying Carpet 237.
  • Combines four Formation Flags with a Formation Disc to conceal herself and Mu Bai from pursuing Xiu Zun 237.

Star-Guiding Formation

During the ancient cave abode expedition, Xing Mu identifies Xing Yun as the only available tribesperson outside the trap capable of raising the required Star-Guiding Formation 157.

  • Links the outside formation to Xing Mu’s formation within the Sword Formation, allowing them to borrow the stars’ power 157.
  • Channels that power into a silver needle, transforming it into a spear 157.
  • Coordinates with Xing Mu to strike the same point from opposite sides, shattering the Sword Formation through the Star Mother-and-Son Spear 157.

Star Array Puppet Refinement

Using Xing Yuan’s formation Jade Slips and the Sword Sect’s existing Ice Puppets, Xing Yun refines four Star Array Puppets to strengthen the sect 537.

  • Four Dao Zun merge with the Ice Puppets and control them through the star array 537.
  • The resulting puppets wield Yuan Zun-level combat power, surpassing Xing Yuan’s earlier Beast Territory designs 537.

Star Array Immortal Puppet Control

Xing Yun holds one of the two fragments that combine into the Star Array Immortal Puppet’s Formation Disc 614.

  • Offers to become the fighting body herself, but Xing Hui swallows the disc before she can stop him 614.
  • Enters Xing Hui’s enormous transformed body and takes control of the puppet 614.
  • Directs power contributed by hundreds of thousands of tribespeople through the Golden Immortal Star Array 614.
  • Wields the Star Silver Spear against Heigong Squid King; Mu Bai subsequently adds his own force to drive it through the Demon Venerable’s body 614 615.
  • Cost: The person serving as the puppet’s body loses their own consciousness 614.

Harp and Singing

Xing Yun plays the harp and sings with a clear, melodious voice, using songs to express affection and address tensions among her companions 371 372.

  • Performs a song about friendship and reunion that moves several guests to tears 371.
  • Ends Hu Meier and Ling Jinyu’s escalating sword contest through a song affirming Mu Bai’s love for her 372.

History

Ancient Cave Abode Expedition

A favored daughter of the Star Great Tribe, Xing Yun accompanies its young talents on the expedition. Wu Daoyi courts her while privately hoping to use a union with her to gain influence over her tribe. Xing Yun instead playfully proposes that Mu Bai marry into the Star Great Tribe if he can demonstrate sufficient strength 155.

She joins Wu Daoyi and Du Tian against Mu Bai, testing him with repeated Soul Arrow volleys. Mu Bai exploits a lapse in her concentration to place a sword-shaped Divine Seal upon her mind, leaving her life subject to his will 156.

Despite this defeat, Xing Yun plays a decisive part in freeing the elders trapped inside the abode. Assisted by Xing Hui, she establishes the external Star-Guiding Formation and synchronizes her spear strike with Xing Mu’s attack from within 157.

When the Eastern Nether Great Tribe’s youths later attack Mu Bai, she helps Wu Meng and the White Wolf tribesmen hold them off. Her initial hostility gives way to admiration, curiosity, and an emerging rivalry with Wu Meng over him 158 159.

Lingze Defense Line and Growing Affection

The Divine Seal remains a source of resentment and confusion for Xing Yun, even though Mu Bai never uses it to issue her a command. After she intervenes to protect Wu Meng from Ox-Head and Horse-Face, Mu Bai saves both women. Xing Yun subsequently confronts him, receives the removal of the seal, and demands that he marry her 232 233 234 235.

While trying to interrupt his meditation, she is accidentally struck by his reflexive palm attack and suffers ruptured internal organs. Mu Bai saves her with a Wound-Healing Pill, wood-attribute Vital Qi, and Phoenix Spirit Qi. She recovers and resumes teasing him 236 237.

She later rescues him from Du Xiang and two other Xiu Zun using the Black Silk Flying Carpet and a concealment formation. Their closeness deepens while hiding together. During their subsequent encounter with Yuyusheng, her refusal to surrender to his illusion earns his admiration and their release 237 238 239.

Imprisonment and Wartime Breakthrough

When Du Xiang has Mu Bai falsely accused and imprisoned, Xing Yun confronts the jailers and attempts to force her way inside. She explains the destruction of the Haibei Tribe to Ling Jinyu, exposing Du Xiang’s motive for eliminating Mu Bai; the two women then seek Dao Zun Lu Ling’s intervention 251.

After Mu Bai leaves for the Beast Territory, Xing Yun continues fighting at the Lingze Defense Line. Her battlefield performance grows colder and more ruthless, and she advances to Xiu Zun. She considers attacking the Eastern Nether Great Tribe but waits for Mu Bai so that he can personally avenge his people 252 279.

Tianmu Mountain Reunion

Xing Yun reaches the South Peak tournament’s final sixteen and continues competing because her tribe’s interests are at stake. Seeing Mu Bai return distracts her from an incoming sword thrust; he crosses the void, embraces her, and takes the wound in his own back 360.

After their private reunion, she tells him that Wu Meng vanished on the day he left Eastern Ridge. She later admits her jealousy but accepts his assurance that his complicated feelings for Wu Meng are not romantic love 361 362.

Xing Yun also protects Mu Bai’s peace of mind. She avoids unnecessarily reopening painful memories and quietly guards him when he enters a dangerous period of contemplation. At their companions’ banquet, she resolves Hu Meier and Ling Jinyu’s rivalry through song 363 371 372.

Abduction and Return to Mu Bai’s Company

The Eastern Nether Great Tribe abducts Xing Yun and Hu Meier and presents them to the Kunling Sect to secure its protection. Bai An confines the women in a Mustard Seed Bag, while Sect Master Hundred Virtues uses their release as part of an unsuccessful offer to recruit Mu Bai 383 384 385.

Their captivity leaves the Star Great Tribe unable to intervene safely. Xing Hui’s attempt to mount a rescue is stopped by Xing Mu, who fears provoking the tribe’s destruction. Mu Bai later infiltrates the Kunling Sect and learns that the women are being held in the heavily restricted Heaven Beyond the Clouds 391 421 430.

By the journey toward the Silver Frost Forest, Xing Yun and Hu Meier are again traveling with Mu Bai. Before he departs for the Sacred Land, he leaves Xing Yun in the forest with Hu Meier 444 448.

Puppet Refinement and Withdrawal to Star Island

Xing Yun later strengthens the Sword Sect by refining four improved Star Array Ice Puppets capable of Yuan Zun-level combat 537.

After Mu Bai goes to the Venerable Domain, she returns to the Star Great Tribe. The tribe greatly reduces outside contact and moves Star Island deeper into the Dao Sea for its protection 546 608.

Reunion After Nearly Fifty Years

Mu Bai finds Xing Yun waiting on a cliff in his old blue robe, nearly fifty years after leaving her in the Silver Frost Forest. He initially hesitates to face her, but Xing Hui invites him onto the island. The couple embrace, apologize for their long separation, and reunite privately 608.

When Star Island faces attack, Xing Yun urges Xing Hui to deploy the Star Array Immortal Puppet. She controls the transformed puppet in battle against Heigong Squid King, supported by the tribe’s collective strength and Mu Bai’s attacks 614 615.

After Xing Hui’s burial, she proposes seeking Yuyusheng’s help, remembering their earlier encounter and believing he may listen to reason. Mu Bai stops her from leaving. As the confrontation with Hai Chen approaches, they remain together, choosing to hold one another despite the possibility that defeat will end both their lives and any chance of reincarnation 622 627.
