Magellan's expression was solemn as he asked in a low voice, "Your name is Roy, isn't it?"
"With power like that, why were you trapped on Level 1 of Impel Down?"
"What exactly are you after?"
At that moment, Magellan truly felt he had a difficult opponent on his hands.
His Devil Fruit was the Venom-Venom Fruit, and almost all his attacks relied on poison.
In Impel Down, it had even made the monsters on Level 6 deeply wary of him.
But now, Roy's ability seemed to counter his perfectly.
Roy sized Magellan up with the hint of a smile. "Hahaha, looks like our Chief Warden Magellan gets nervous too."
Magellan said nothing, merely staring coldly at him.
Roy stopped joking as well, his tone growing flat.
"Come to think of it, ending up in Impel Down was something of an accident."
"I spoke up when I saw something unjust, and those righteous Marines arrested me without bothering to find out what happened."
Yake and the other criminals were all shaken by his words.
Yake in particular found Roy's experience almost identical to their own.
"What? Lord Roy was brought here the same way? Those damned Marines!"
But amid their shock, they could not help wondering.
With Roy's strength, had he come here willingly?
Naturally, Magellan's thoughts went deeper than those of these criminals.
His gaze darkened. "Roy, perhaps you aren't lying."
"But with power like this, you pretended to be weak and slipped into Impel Down."
"You freed prisoners and killed nearly a thousand of my subordinates, yet you dare claim you only came here for fun! You've gone too far!"
Roy's tone was scornful. "So what? What can you do to me?"
Those words ignited Magellan's fury completely.
"Fine, fine, fine! You really are an irredeemable villain!"
"You killed my men, and you still dare act so arrogantly!"
"Today, you'll pay with your life!"
As his words fell, Magellan stepped forward.
Venom spread rapidly from beneath his feet, corroding countless tiny holes into the ground wherever it passed.
Overhead, vast poison clouds rose and spread in every direction, gradually sealing off all of Roy's escape routes.
The jailers in the distance paled at the sight.
"Fall back! Contact with that Poison Cloud will shut down your five senses until you can't see or hear!"
Everyone hurried back, no longer even able to spare attention for guarding the criminals.
Roy's gaze sharpened slightly. He, too, sensed danger.
This Poison Cloud was not merely corrosive. If it engulfed him, it might even cut off his perception.
Without hesitation, he swept a finger through the air.
"Ordinary Slash: Dismantle!"
A Slashes tore through the air, cutting a rift straight through the Poison Cloud.
But the Poison Cloud had no solid form to begin with. A moment later, it slowly closed again, though much more slowly than before.
That brief opening was already enough for Roy to get away.
"You can unleash Slashes like that without a sword. Just where did you come from?"
Magellan's voice came from within the poisonous mist.
The next instant, a channel of venom appeared on the ground.
His body shot along it, almost skimming its surface, straight toward Roy!
Venom churned over his body, as though even the slightest contact would corrode someone away completely.
Roy already had his Observation Haki active. With a flicker, he retreated calmly.
"That move is pretty interesting. But it's still a little slow for me now."
Magellan stopped, his eyes growing even darker. "So you do have Observation Haki."
"Of course. It would be stranger if a monster like you didn't know Haki."
Roy smiled without answering.
If Magellan knew he had only just learned Haki, Roy wondered what he would think.
"Roy, you really are strong."
Magellan straightened, venom still flowing slowly around him. "But I've noticed you seem to be deliberately avoiding contact with my poison."
"In other words, that healing ability of yours has limits, doesn't it?"
Roy raised an eyebrow and did not deny it.
"This distance is close enough."
Magellan suddenly opened his mouth, poison gathering furiously inside it.
Then he spat out dozens of venom balls that shot toward Roy like cannonballs!
"Poison Pink Pufferfish!"
Roy laughed loudly. Armament Haki instantly covered his entire body, and he drove both fists straight into the incoming poison balls!
"Magellan, you really do have some ability. But don't outsmart yourself!"
Bang! Bang!
The poison balls burst one after another beneath his fists. Splattering venom landed on his Haki, sizzling with corrosion and giving off acrid white smoke.
Roy could clearly feel the venom eating away, bit by bit, at the Armament Haki covering his body.
Although it could not hurt his body for now, he would certainly be affected if this went on.
"Tricky indeed."
Roy chuckled softly, the excitement in his eyes intensifying.
He moved again, charging at Magellan like a cannonball.
Magellan's expression shifted slightly, and he swung a fist to meet him.
Venom, Haki, and martial arts collided, making the air hum from the impact.
The two fought fiercely at close range, every punch striking flesh, moving so fast that only afterimages remained.
A short while later.
Roy's advantage in hand-to-hand combat gradually became apparent. Magellan had pushed his Observation Haki to its limit, yet he still could not keep up with his opponent's rhythm.
Suddenly, a Poison Dragon darted out from a blind spot behind Magellan and sank its teeth into Roy's shoulder!
Its poisonous fangs pierced his Haki, and deadly venom instantly flooded his flesh!
Roy grunted, smashed the Poison Dragon apart with a backhand punch, and pulled back at the same time.
He glanced down at the rapidly blackening wound on his shoulder and activated Reverse Cursed Technique. The wound healed at a speed visible to the naked eye.
"You've got some skill, Magellan."
Roy raised his head, killing intent churning in his scarlet eyes.
Magellan's expression was grave, and his heart sank.
Even a Poison Dragon ambushing him from a blind spot could only stop him for an instant. That kind of healing power was simply absurd.
After a brief, fierce battle, Roy had completely adapted to Magellan's fighting rhythm.
His Venom-Venom Fruit, Armament Haki, and Observation Haki were all suppressed, leaving Magellan thoroughly on the back foot.
The jailers watched with eyes stretched wide in fury, yet were powerless to intervene.
"Lord Magellan... how could he lose!"
"He isn't losing! That bastard just happens to counter the Chief Warden's poison! Against anyone else, the Chief Warden would never suffer such a crushing defeat!"
Anyone with eyes could see that Roy had no fear of deadly poison.
And Magellan was precisely a Venom-Venom Fruit user, his greatest advantage completely countered.
But on a battlefield, being countered was never an excuse.
In a fight to the death, no one would listen to any of that.
Boom!
The two clashed again.
Magellan turned his entire body into venom, trying to evade the attacks and find a chance to strike back.
But Roy gave him no chance at all. His fists, coated in Armament Haki, rained down, battering the venom until it splashed everywhere.
When Magellan's body solidified again, he was already vomiting mouthfuls of blood.
Roy pressed his advantage relentlessly, flashing behind Magellan and grabbing one of the pitch-black wings on his back, a cruel smile spreading across his face.
"Magellan, treating a powerful fighter like this really is a little insulting. But we're on opposing sides, aren't we?"
"I'll be taking this wing!"
Crack!
Before he had even finished speaking, Roy tore off the entire wing, flesh and bone together!
Blood gushed out, and venom splattered everywhere.
Magellan let out an agonized scream, nearly passing out from the pain.
"Argh..."
Pain.
So much pain.
Agony unlike anything he had ever felt.
The jailers roared in despair.
"Bastard! If you want to leave, then leave! Spare Chief Warden Magellan!"
"Roy! If you kill him, we won't leave you alone even as ghosts!"
Roy glanced back at them, his eyes filled with excitement.
"Hahaha, Magellan, your subordinates really do trust you."
"Seeing them like this almost makes my heart ache."
"In that case, I'll make this feel even better for you!"
