Ch. 55The angel Conis

The Straw Hats arrived at Angel Beach in the Sky Island, where they met Conis and learned about the island and its ruler, Enel. When Nami disappeared after riding a Waver, the crew suspected she had entered God's Island, and Zoro's challenge to God immediately drew a lightning strike that he cut apart.

  • Amazon sent the Straw Hats to the Sky Island on an Express Shrimp, then secretly reported their illegal entry to the priests and Divine Soldiers.
  • The crew explored the soft cloud ground, and Conis introduced herself, reclaimed her pet fox Sisi from Zoro, and welcomed them to Angel Beach.
  • Conis's father arrived on a Waver and crashed into a Coconut Jelly tree; Liu Qing learned to ride it, then Luffy and Nami took turns.

  • Robin read the Poneglyph’s message mentioning Poseidon and translated Roger’s inscription, while Wyper recognized the tablet as a relic his people had long sought.
  • Luffy carved his name and Pirate King ambition beside Roger’s message, and Robin reflected that the Poneglyphs could guide her to the missing history at Laugh Tale.

Ch. 61A victory banquet and stealing gold pillars

After Sky Island’s inhabitants celebrated their peace with an all-night banquet, Luffy, Liu Qing, Nami, and Robin planned to steal gold from the Golden Bell and return to the Blue Sea. • Wyper gave Usopp a backpack of Dials, while Luffy, Nami, and Liu Qing secretly agreed to take gold from the Golden Bell after everyone fell asleep.
  • Robin joined their plan, and after the banquet ended, the group quietly woke their crewmates and explained the scheme.
  • The Straw Hat Pirates carried two enormous gold pillars to the Going Merry, with Liu Qing and Luffy and Zoro helping transport them.

  • The Going Merry landed at Navarone Fortress, and Jonathan questioned the crew while Nami pretended they were tourists swept up by the Knock Up Stream.
  • Jonathan ordered Drake to inspect the ship, then had the sail lowered, revealing the Straw Hat flag and exposing the crew as pirates.
  • Jonathan ordered the Marines to attack, but Liu Qing used a Den Den Mushi to connect him with Garp, who warned that fighting Liu Qing could destroy the fortress.
  • Garp urged Jonathan to let the Straw Hats go, and Jonathan reluctantly ordered the Marines to stand down and open the sea gate.
  • As the Going Merry prepared to leave, Liu Qing asked Garp to meet him in Water 7, and Garp agreed to arrive within a day and a half after they reached it.

Ch. 64The decision about the Going Merry

The Straw Hat Pirates debated replacing the Going Merry because it struggled in the Grand Line, and agreed to preserve it by merging it with a new ship at Water 7. As they reached an inexplicably frozen island, Robin feared that Marine Admiral Kuzan was nearby.

  • Nami proposed dividing the gold, but Liu Qing and Robin pointed out that the Going Merry was struggling to sail and the crew needed a stronger ship.
  • Zoro and Sanji agreed that the Going Merry could no longer keep up, upsetting Usopp, who feared the crew would abandon their companion.
  • Liu Qing offered to carry the Going Merry aboard a new ship or merge the two ships, and Luffy chose the merger so the Going Merry could continue their adventures.
  • Nami agreed to save the gold for a shipyard, and Robin suggested Water 7 for its shipwrights; Luffy also wanted to recruit a musician.
  • Usopp spotted an ice-covered island, and Robin suspected Kuzan had frozen it; Liu Qing comforted her as the Going Merry approached shore.

Chopper ate his third Rumble Ball to protect his frozen companions and fought Kuzan after losing his reason, while Liu Qing considered the Straw Hat Pirates’ need for two years of training. The chapter ended with Liu Qing freeing Robin, Nami, and Usopp from the ice as cracks spread around Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji.

  • Zoro and Sanji broke out of Kuzan’s ice and attacked him, but he dodged their strikes and blocked or froze the attacks from Robin, Nami, Usopp, and Chopper.

  • Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji attacked Kuzan, but he reformed after being cut apart and fought them until he chose to stop.
  • Kuzan told Robin he had come to see whether she would abandon the crew, and Robin vowed to fulfill Ohara's scholars' dream.
