"Boom, boom, boom!"
The earth trembled as the twenty-meter Nine-Headed Anomaly raced along on all fours.
The distance between them closed rapidly.
"If this keeps up, we're dead for sure!"
Lin Yi's heart sank, and he glanced at the unconscious Da Sha.
Divine Thief Sequence, Group Transfer activated.
A large patch of soil mixed with wild grass vanished instantly.
When it reappeared, it was right in front of the Nine-Headed Anomaly.
"Thud."
The Nine-Headed Anomaly's nine heads slammed into the soil.
Its vision was briefly obscured.
"Now."
Lin Yi swung the car's rear around in a beautiful drift and braked, all in one smooth motion.
Divine Thief Sequence, the third ability, Disguise, activated!
The next instant.
Like a chameleon, the Jury-Rigged Car instantly blended into its surroundings.
At the same time Disguise activated, the Big-Headed Anomaly's interference activated as well, instantly concealing the Jury-Rigged Car's presence.
Lin Yi held his breath, staring fixedly at the Nine-Headed Anomaly as it shook off the soil.
Having lost its target, the Nine-Headed Anomaly stood there in confusion.
Its nine heads swiveled rapidly, searching for Lin Yi.
"Looks like we got away."
Lin Yi breathed a sigh of relief.
But before he could relax much.
The purple wild grass around them suddenly parted.
The Nine-Headed Anomaly's nine heads turned in their direction in unison.
The patch of wild grass he had disguised himself as stood exposed in the Nine-Headed Anomaly's view.
"Son of a bitch!"
Lin Yi hadn't expected the purple grass to screw him over.
His face darkened. Without a moment's hesitation, the Jury-Rigged Car shot forward with a roar.
"Boom, boom, boom."
The earth began trembling again.
The giant anomaly's speed as it ran on all fours was downright absurd.
Lin Yi took a long look at Da Sha behind him.
Looks like I really can't save you this time...
"Boom!"
The earth shook again.
The Nine-Headed Anomaly leaped into the air.
All nine heads opened their gaping mouths at once.
"Food... delicious food..."
"This is so damn messed up."
Lin Yi cursed under his breath, his body beginning to turn intangible.
Otherworldly Walking...
Before his ability could fully activate, a strange laugh rang out again.
"Hee hee hee, how about I show you a magic trick!"
That voice sounded so familiar.
Lin Yi looked up.
He saw a comical figure racing toward the Jury-Rigged Car from up ahead.
As he approached, his body kept expanding.
In the end, he actually turned into another Nine-Headed Anomaly.
Without another word, the newly appeared Nine-Headed Anomaly charged straight into the one behind them.
"Holy shit, what's going on!"
Even Lin Yi was stunned for a moment by the sight.
"Lin Yi, go on ahead! My transformation only has a tenth of its strength!"
The urgent call came from the newly appeared Nine-Headed Anomaly. It was Clown.
"Thanks."
Lin Yi looked through the rearview mirror.
He saw the Nine-Headed Anomaly Clown had transformed into get seized in both hands at their very first clash. With a powerful wrench, the other anomaly tore him in half.
But Clown's torn transformation simply turned illusory and vanished.
"Hee hee hee, let me show you a magic trick..."
Clown's voice rang out nearby.
Immediately afterward, his body expanded again.
A new Nine-Headed Anomaly appeared and charged at its opponent without hesitation.
"So this is Clown Sequence 2's ability?"
This was Lin Yi's first time seeing Clown use it, too.
Clown's Sequence 2 didn't seem particularly powerful in combat, but it was absolutely excellent at buying time.
"Hee hee hee, watch me show you a real magic trick!"
Clown's transformation was shattered again, and he re-formed with a comical smile on his face.
His body rapidly expanded.
Having transformed into a Nine-Headed Anomaly, he split into three.
Two duplicates rushed toward the Nine-Headed Anomaly, while his main body dropped onto all fours and raced after Lin Yi's car.
"Whoosh."
The Nine-Headed Anomaly Clown had transformed into leaped toward the roof of Lin Yi's car.
As he descended, however, his body gradually shrank until he returned to his original appearance.
The two duplicates behind them avoided fighting the Nine-Headed Anomaly head-on, simply circling around it, harassing it and buying time.
"Why did you come back?"
Watching Clown swing himself into the car, Lin Yi couldn't help sounding a little grateful.
Clown's face was deathly pale now, with little color in his comical features.
Clearly, he had overdrawn himself using his ability.
Clown had looked incredibly nimble just now, but every use had actually taken an enormous toll.
Otherwise, Clown could transform into any anomaly, no matter how powerful, and even a tenth of its strength would be terrifying enough.
Clown's eyes shifted. Looking at the supplies filling the rear compartment, he chuckled. "Hee hee hee, I came back for some supplies and happened to run into you."
"Take them. Take whatever you want."
Lin Yi knew Clown wasn't saying what he really meant, but he still spoke cheerfully.
In the convoy, Clown was so withdrawn he was practically invisible.
Lin Yi hardly ever saw him.
Even when something important happened, Zhao Xing was the one who passed the message along.
That was why he was curious about why Clown had come to rescue him.
Since Clown didn't want to say, he had no intention of digging any further.
The supplies in his rear compartment had all been taken from those survivors' vehicles when they died. Before he knew it, the compartment was full again.
"Vroom, vroom, vroom."
The Jury-Rigged Car's engine roared.
The brief time Clown had bought had already allowed it to race far away.
The atmosphere inside the car remained tense.
Clown stared fixedly behind them.
If the Nine-Headed Anomaly approached again, he would create more transformed duplicates without hesitation.
After a short rest, his complexion had improved considerably.
The car fell somewhat silent.
Clown wasn't good at conversation.
Da Sha still hadn't woken up.
Lin Yi didn't know what to say either.
After struggling for a long while, Lin Yi finally spoke. "Aren't you afraid you won't be able to find Elder Qi?"
"Hee hee hee." Clown tilted his head. "Can't you track him?"
"What if you hadn't found me?" Lin Yi asked.
"Hee hee hee, I wasn't looking for you in the first place." Clown leaned halfway out the window, the wind making his clothes flap loudly.
Without warning, Clown pressed his face against the front window. "Lin Yi, can you track down Uncle Xu, then?"
Lin Yi froze at the question.
Xu Zhong naturally had contribution points, but there were so many people with contribution points now that they somewhat obstructed his view.
Normally, he only displayed some of them.
At Clown's words.
He enabled the contribution display.
Lin Yi scanned his surroundings. Xu Zhong's contribution points had vanished, which left only one answer.
Xu Zhong was dead.
Lin Yi wasn't surprised. He only felt it was a pity.
Lone travelers in the apocalypse couldn't leave the convoy, even with Sequence Transcendence...
After a little hesitation, he decided to tell a white lie.
"All I can tell you is that your Uncle Xu is still alive."
Lin Yi spoke after a moment of silence.
"Hee hee hee, I knew Uncle Xu was blessed with good fortune and a long life."
The smile on Clown's face grew even more exaggerated.
He darted onto the roof and gazed far into the depths of the grassland.
As though he could see through the swaying wild grass to that familiar figure.
Suddenly, his expression turned sorrowful. Covering his cheek with one hand, he trembled uncontrollably. "Lin Yi, thank you for your lie..."
The raging wind drowned out Clown's voice.
Lin Yi didn't hear him talking to himself.
All he saw was the apocalyptic horizon slowly coming into view ahead.
"We're finally out..."
For the first time, Lin Yi felt that the apocalyptic scenery looked so welcoming...
