Lin Yi grew up on his own from an early age. Before the apocalypse, he spent nearly all the inheritance left by his parents pursuing Liu Ruyan, only for her to become engaged to Lu Sheng, the son of a company owner. By the time supernatural horrors spread through Shanghai, his outwardly ingratiating behavior toward her concealed resentment and emotional detachment 1.

He initially keeps both awakened sequences secret. Even after publicly admitting that he is a Sequence Transcendent, he claims to possess the Assassin sequence, fearing that exposure of Holy Mother would connect him to the inexplicable injuries and deaths of other survivors 18.

Appearance

• Face: Handsome, with a rather cold expression when approaching the bereaved Daoist disciple Xuanqing 46.
• Right hand: Missing the little finger sacrificed for Divine Thief; initially wears a bloodstained white bandage around the injury 1.
• Regeneration detail: His sacrificed little finger remains absent even when Holy Mother regenerates an entire arm 2.

Personality

Lin Yi is calculating, suspicious, and focused on survival. He treats Holy Mother as a tool rather than a moral obligation, explicitly rejecting the idea that its name requires genuine selflessness. He steals supplies without guilt, coerces gratitude to increase Contribution, and conceals dangerous abilities behind a reputation for generosity 3 4 9 18.

His coldness is incomplete. He risks his life to retrieve Da Sha despite recognizing the decision as irrational, later refuses to endanger Da Sha and Bai Xiaoyu through further swaps, and is devastated by Da Sha’s disappearance. Although he subsequently resolves to avoid close attachments, Xuanqing’s grief for his master persuades him to accept another companion 28 39 40 46.

Divine Thief

Steals objects according to Lin Yi’s intentions, either targeting something specific or automatically taking the most valuable available item 1.

• Mental-power cost: Ordinary objects require little effort, while powerful or unusual targets can leave him dazed or unconscious. He avoids stealing the Scythe Weird’s weapon because he expects the strain to incapacitate him 5 6 24.
• Plunder: Temporarily suppresses an opponent’s supernatural abilities. Its duration decreases against stronger targets; it lasts only one second against the Blood Ghost 36.

A Divine Thief Sequence 2 ability, also called Void Walking, that places Lin Yi on a different layer of space 23 28.

• Assassination: Allows him to approach unseen, materialize beside an enemy, and strike with the Blade of Greed 35.
• Duration: Sustained by mental power; his permanent Sequence 2 advancement lets him maintain it longer 23 28.
• Passenger restriction: He cannot simply carry Da Sha through it during the grassland rescue 28.
• Countermeasures: The Blood Ghost’s Scarlet Blood Eye disrupts the ability and forcibly ejects him 36.

Holy Mother: Contribution and Death Substitution

Displays Contribution values above designated targets and uses those accumulated values to sustain Lin Yi’s survival 1 2 3.

• Contribution accumulation: Supplies, valuables, gratitude, games, and rescues can increase a target’s value. Lin Yi frequently manufactures opportunities to receive thanks 4 10 26 27 35.
• Tracking: Marked targets remain locatable regardless of distance. Initially, he can mark only three people 2.
• Injury transfer: Regenerating his severed arm reduces Liu Ruyan’s Contribution from 40 to 20; he later discovers that she has lost the corresponding arm 2 3.
• Resurrection: Reconstitutes his body in scarlet mist after fatal injuries, including dismemberment and being ground to pieces 15 23.
• Available lives: Contribution totals of one hundred provide substitute lives; during the Blood Ghost battle, he counts four remaining lives across the Skinning Ghost, Bai Xiaoyu, and Da Sha 38.

The Skinning Ghost becomes an unusually valuable substitute because Contribution associated with its stolen human skins stacks onto it. Lin Yi observes its total rising far beyond an ordinary person’s full Contribution 18 27 35.

Holy Mother Sequence 2 Techniques

• Transposition: Swaps Lin Yi with a death substitute at the moment of death. He repeatedly uses the Skinning Ghost to escape the Blood Ghost 36 37.
• Conversion: Requires touching a supernatural entity and brings it under his control. Stronger entities begin with lower loyalty; below ten, they may attack their master, and at zero they break free 36.
  • The Blood Ghost immediately defects at zero loyalty 37.
  • The Wolf King submits with twenty loyalty; feeding it giant-snake meat later restores its loyalty to twenty 43 45.
• Purification: An offensive holy light capable of reducing supernatural entities to ashes. It only briefly changes the Blood Ghost before the creature restores its bloody form, and the attempt severely drains Lin Yi’s mental power 37 38.

Transcendent Physique and Senses

• Sealed Blood Ring

  • An ancient red ring stolen from the largest graveyard tombstone, ranked 1234 24 25.
  • Provides storage and Soul-Sealing, which suppresses an entity for later release at an additional price 25.
  • Initially inflicts Bad Luck Clinging. Attempting to seal the Blood Ghost also requires an Anomaly material ranked within one thousand, which Lin Yi lacks 38.
  • Absorbs the Blood Ghost’s remaining blood, unlocking Sea of Blood and removing its usage cost 40.
  • Absorbed enemies become Vengeful Ghosts in the sea. These ghosts intimidate and restrain rather than deal combat damage 41 43.

• Universal Wrench

  • An upgradeable Anomaly ranked 2091, originally stolen in the form of a mysterious screw 1 20.
  • Autonomously repairs or assembles objects when supplied with sufficient resources. Its previous owner has already paid the usage cost 20.
  • Builds Lin Yi’s makeshift armored vehicle from five abandoned cars and his motorcycle; later entrusted to the Wolf King for repair work 21 43.

• Rolling Pin

  • Stolen from the Butcher and given to Da Sha as a weapon. Lin Yi retrieves it after Da Sha disappears 15 17 40.

• Golden monkey hair

  • Returned by Li Jie after Da Sha’s disappearance. Lin Yi keeps it and later holds it while remembering him 41 46.

• Blood-red eye

  • One of the remaining materials Da Sha gives him after defeating the Blood Ghost 40.

• Makeshift armored car

  • Built with the Universal Wrench and called the Doomsday Tinplate Car, with later references to its patchwork or assembled construction 21 27 28.

Relationships

• Liu Ruyan — Former romantic pursuit and an early Contribution target. She exploits his generosity, participates in abandoning him, and unknowingly receives injuries transferred through Holy Mother 1 2 3.
• Lu Sheng — Liu Ruyan’s fiancé and Lin Yi’s enemy. Throws him from the sedan and later helps trap him with the Butcher; ultimately killed by the Skinning Ghost 1 15 18.
• Huang Nana — A coerced source of Contribution who conspires to kill him and participates in the noodle-shop ambush 4 12 15.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Escape from Shanghai

• Abandoned beside the road during the convoy’s flight, Lin Yi survives a hooded entity by sacrificing an arm, discovering Holy Mother’s regeneration, and stealing its dagger 1 2 3.
• Develops a routine of distributing supplies, extracting gratitude, and stealing goods back. Da Sha’s warning about disguised refugees helps bring them into Elder Qi’s core convoy 4 7 8 12.

Butcher Ambush and Return

• Lu Sheng, Huang Nana, and Xiao Chusheng ram him into a noodle shop and block the entrance. He survives being ground to pieces, steals the Butcher’s Rolling Pin, and kills it after resurrecting 15.
• After becoming separated from the convoy, joins Xu Zhong and Clown, fights through aberrations, and returns with more than forty survivors. His confrontation with the ambushers exposes the Skinning Ghost 17 18.

Rule-Bound Graveyard

• Recognizes that survivor deaths trigger additional graveyard enemies and warns the convoy against killing the controlled riders 22.
• Repeatedly dies while trying to reach the enormous tombstones. Bai Xiaoyu’s enhancement lets him bypass the attackers; the escape leaves him with a stronger blade, the Blood Ring, and a permanent Divine Thief advancement 23 24.

Purple Grassland

• Turns back when vines drag Da Sha away, despite insisting that he should prioritize his own survival 27 28.
• Discovers a giant aberration sustained by vines and grass. Stabbing its skull fails to stop the combined organism, forcing him to escape with Da Sha while Clown delays its pursuit 28 29.

Ice and Snow City

• Finds that every attempted retreat leads back to the city’s entrance. Inside, he joins Li Jie and Lu Hanxue, destroys an illusion impersonating his mother, and reunites with the convoy 31 32 33.
• Rescues Bai Xiaoyu from a Long-Tongued Ghost, then stands beside the wounded Lu Hanxue rather than abandon the group’s strongest fighter 35.

Blood Ghost Battle and Da Sha’s Disappearance

• Advances Holy Mother while repeatedly dying against the Blood Ghost, but neither Conversion, Purification, Soul-Sealing, nor Settlement secures victory 36 37 38 39.
• Da Sha arrives in golden light, defeats the Blood Ghost, and disappears after leaving its materials behind. Lin Yi awakens three days later in another survivor convoy, overwhelmed by grief 40.
