While the boy dug a grave, Lin Yi did not sit idle either.
He took out the Jury-Rigged Car and some vehicle fragments.
Then he stuffed the Universal Wrench into the Wolf King's mouth.
"All right, time to get to work."
The Wolf King: ???
The Wolf King gave Lin Yi a somewhat resentful glance, then grunted away as he assembled the Jury-Rigged Car with the wrench in his mouth.
The apocalypse was dangerous at night.
Even though Lin Yi had activated the Jury-Rigged Car's interference ability to conceal their presence.
Wandering anomalies still approached from time to time.
Over the course of the night, Lin Yi offered quite a few more anomalies as blood sacrifices to the Blade of Greed.
The boy spent the entire night burying his master.
By the next day, he looked utterly drained, his face pale and his whole body weak.
"Let's go."
Lin Yi sat in the driver's seat with a cigarette between his lips.
The boy silently climbed into the passenger seat.
He held out a sword and a book to Lin Yi.
Four large characters were written on the book: Daoist Principles Compendium.
"My Daoist name is Xuanqing. These belonged to my master," Xuanqing said, holding the items out before Lin Yi, his eyes full of reluctance to part with them.
"What are you giving them to me for?" Lin Yi started the vehicle without taking them.
"Uh..." Xuanqing froze for a moment. "Master said everything comes at a price..."
"Oh, haven't we already discussed your price?" Lin Yi said flatly.
Xuanqing looked puzzled.
"Your life." Lin Yi started the vehicle and tapped the ash off his cigarette, his voice carrying little emotion.
"Oh." Hearing this, Xuanqing slowly lowered his head and put the items away.
Lin Yi refused his belongings simply because he had no interest in them.
At a glance, that sword was nowhere near as sharp as the Blade of Greed.
As for the Daoist Principles Compendium, it was already the apocalypse. Where would he find the time to study that thing?
There was just one thing that made him curious.
Had the old Daoist who died actually attained Sequence Transcendence?
Or...
Could someone who had not attained Sequence Transcendence still use some method to unleash the power to blast anomalies to death?
All those questions would have to wait until Xuanqing mastered the Daoist Principles Compendium.
Lin Yi had not driven the Jury-Rigged Car for long before he saw Lu Hanxue's convoy approaching.
He made a U-turn and pulled up beside Li Jie's modified off-roader.
Seeing that Li Jie was still full of energy after eating the snake meat put him considerably more at ease.
"Hehe, Lin Yi, that snake meat was delicious! Got any more?" Li Jie waved, his face full of lingering enjoyment.
Lin Yi could not be bothered with him and accelerated, leaving him behind.
With the wolves clearing the way, the convoy continued through the ice and snow.
Just then, Hawkeye's excited voice came over the radio.
"Everyone, everyone! Two more days of travel, and we'll be out of this damned ice and snow!"
As soon as Hawkeye finished speaking, he felt that something was wrong.
A cold snort came over the radio.
"Hmph."
Lu Hanxue's voice carried a hint of frost.
In his excitement, Hawkeye had nearly forgotten about that.
He hurriedly changed his tune. "Hehe, I mean we'll be leaving this beautiful world of ice and snow..."
After speaking, Hawkeye wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. That was close, so close. Good thing I reacted quickly. I nearly offended the Ice Queen.
The convoy traveled steadily for half a day.
At noon.
Clackety-clack, clackety-clack.
The clatter of train cars suddenly rang out.
A white train with a distinctly apocalyptic look approached from afar, gradually coming into the survivors' view.
"Stay alert."
Wu Ke immediately gave the order.
Everyone turned to look into the distance in unison.
Lu Hanxue stared into the distance.
The wolves growled as they circled the convoy, as though marking their territory.
Clackety-clack, clackety-clack.
Despite having no tracks, the white train continued smoothly through the snow.
Hiss!
The train came to a stop, and the door of the second carriage opened.
Three people stepped out.
Leading them was a barefoot man in a suit, his hair slick and gleaming.
A Guide.
Those distinctive features let Lin Yi identify him at a glance.
The second was a deathly pale child.
The child wore children's clothes and a little red-and-green cap, looking around curiously.
The last was a large Buddhist monk with a ruddy face.
The large monk walked at the back, his face covered in a kindly smile.
Their gazes fell on the white train.
Countless curious survivors were peering through the windows of the rear carriages, studying the people in the snow.
"Hello, we're survivors from the Doomsday Train."
"My name is Zhang Chen, Guide Sequence," the barefoot man in the suit said to Lu Hanxue. He could tell at a glance that she seemed to be the group's leader.
Presence could not be hidden!
"Lu Hanxue." Lu Hanxue offered no further introduction, her eyes remaining wary.
"I..." Li Jie had just been about to say something when Wu Ke clapped a hand over his mouth and dragged him toward the back of the crowd.
If they let this guy loose, that blabbermouth of his would spill everything about the convoy.
Zhang Chen did not mind Lu Hanxue's wariness and continued the introductions with a smile.
He pointed at the child. "Xiao Liuzi."
Before he could say anything else, the fat monk behind him stepped forward and held one hand upright in a Buddhist greeting. "Amitabha. This humble monk is Faqing."
"Faqing? More like 'in heat,'" Li Jie muttered in the crowd, curling his lip in displeasure. "Look at those eyes of his. They're practically glued to the young lady."
Li Jie was merely making a remark, but Lu Hanxue's face had already turned frosty.
Being ogled so brazenly by Faqing made her expression icy.
Whoosh.
Countless icicles formed in an instant.
Thud, thud, thud.
Streaks of cold light hurtled toward the fat monk.
"Ah, benefactor, why attack without cause?" Still smiling, the fat monk swung the prayer beads in his hand, and the icicles filling the air came clattering down like dumplings dropped into a pot.
Before Lu Hanxue could continue.
Zhang Chen glared fiercely at Faqing. "I've told you before. Keep ogling like that, and sooner or later someone will gouge your eyes out."
"Hehe, this humble monk was merely appreciating, just appreciating." The fat monk was still all smiles.
Seeing that Lu Hanxue still intended to attack, Zhang Chen hurriedly waved toward the carriages.
The third carriage opened, and two people immediately came out carrying a sack of rice.
"Please accept this sack of rice as our apology."
Lin Yi remained hidden in the crowd the entire time, watching the farce.
What had just happened was clearly a contest of wills.
Zhang Chen knew what Faqing was like. He had not stopped him at first because he wanted to test the convoy.
If the convoy did not react, they would be labeled easy prey.
What would follow went without saying.
Lu Hanxue's willingness to attack showed that the convoy had confidence.
After all, Zhang Chen understood too: without some confidence, how would anyone dare attack outright?
Zhang Chen swept his gaze around, then asked with some confusion, "Where's your Guide?"
Holding her sword in one hand, Lu Hanxue flicked it downward, her tone icy.
"Dead."
