"Half an hour."
The burly man glanced at the sky, then smiled at Lin Yi. "My name's Li Yong. If you need help, come find me."
"Sure thing."
Lin Yi returned his smile. Only after the SUV drove away did his smile gradually fade.
The cars at the gas station had all taken a turn filling up, but some people were still going back for a second round.
With far fewer cars at the station, Lin Yi had already filled his second can of gasoline.
"Lin Yi, give me the gas!"
Liu Ruyan's familiar voice rang out.
"Sure thing."
Lin Yi still wore such a sincere smile.
Seventy contribution points already.
Quite a few vehicles were parked near the gas station. Lin Yi swiped the gasoline he had just handed over into his hiking backpack, then began looking for a vehicle that would start.
But just then.
The sky darkened!
It was as though a curtain had covered the sun.
A moment earlier, the sun had blazed in a clear sky.
In the blink of an eye, everything had turned gloomy.
"Crack, creak, creak..."
The sound of bones grinding together rang out.
Lin Yi looked up toward the small convenience store.
The previously quiet Little Loli Weird was rising in a bizarre posture, walking toward the store's exit step by step.
The survivors clearly had yet to notice the approaching danger.
Perhaps they still thought the Weirds could not appear because it was daytime!
Without the slightest hesitation, Lin Yi grabbed his bike-share bicycle and fled out of town like the wind.
As for whether Liu Ruyan would die.
If she died, he could just switch targets!
She was only expendable.
The only unpleasant part was letting her die too easily.
By the time everyone at the gas station reacted, Little Loli Weird had already reached the convenience store's entrance.
"Ah! A Weird!"
A scream drew everyone's attention toward the store.
"Run!"
"Help!"
The little girl's head shot out like a ball, trailing torn scalp, and chewed up the nearest man in one bite.
Everyone else began fleeing like mad.
Lin Yi pedaled his bike-share bicycle furiously.
Soon, he encountered several cars hurtling out of another road.
"Scrape, scrape."
The sound of steel scraping the ground rang out.
Lin Yi looked up.
He immediately felt a shudder run through his entire body.
A Weird over five meters tall, its whole body rotting, was approaching step by step, dragging a scythe roughly four meters long.
"Gulp."
Lin Yi drew a deep breath.
Looking at that scythe, he abandoned the idea of using Divine Thief.
At a glance, this was on an entirely different level from the Weird that had used Blood Blade earlier.
If he stole the scythe, he would pass out right in front of it the next second.
Lin Yi deliberately slowed down, waiting for the other survivors to go ahead and die.
Among the cars emerging from the other road was the modified SUV he had seen earlier.
Although Li Yong had left a very good impression on him.
But so what...
Lin Yi trailed behind the speeding cars.
Very soon, he regretted it.
A spider-like Weird was following behind the fleeing cars.
It had the shape of a two-meter-tall spider, its eight legs darting and weaving across the ground, yet his face was that of an extremely pale woman!
The woman's eight eyes constantly flashed with scarlet light. Just one look was enough to make anyone's skin crawl.
"Damned apocalypse."
Lin Yi cursed and hurriedly picked up speed.
He could only pray that some unlucky bastard would sate Scythe Weird.
But just before the modified SUV reached Scythe Weird.
An incredibly over-the-top voice rang out from the SUV's passenger seat.
"Blindness does nothing to hinder my pursuit of justice!"
Bang!
The passenger door was kicked open.
Then a bare-chested, muscular young man with a black cloth over his eyes suddenly sprang out.
The instant he appeared, he hurtled toward Scythe Weird like a cannonball.
Faint golden light could be seen blooming around his fists.
"A transcendent sequence. A combat type."
Lin Yi's pupils contracted, and he felt considerably reassured.
"Scrape, scrape."
Scythe Weird said nothing, merely raising its four-meter-long scythe stiffly.
It swung.
Boom!
With a single blow from the scythe, the young man who had been so full of theatrical bravado was smashed straight into a nearby shop, sending clouds of dust billowing up.
Lin Yi: ...
Seriously, dude? That's it?
The young man had taken a brutal beating, but he had bought the convoy time.
Lin Yi followed the convoy far away.
No one spared that theatrical young man a glance.
Scythe Weird did not continue pursuing the convoy either, as though the young man appealed to it more.
"I will shatter your sins with my fists."
His theatrical declaration rang out especially loudly as the young man leaped out again and charged toward Scythe Weird.
Boom!
The young man was smashed back into the rubble.
The young man got up again and again, only to be sent flying each time, like a cockroach that refused to die.
Lin Yi had figured it out too.
This guy talks big, but the sequence he awakened is probably a tank...
"Master, Master..."
Just then, a filthy figure stumbled out of a nearby shop and ran toward Lin Yi.
Lin Yi's pupils contracted. "A Weird?"
No, he did not look like a Weird.
Lin Yi frowned, then withdrew his gaze. Whether he was a Weird or not, what did it have to do with him?
He pushed harder with his feet, bringing the bike-share bicycle beneath him almost up to the cars' speed.
It was only thanks to the scattered obstacles on the road that Lin Yi could cling so closely to the convoy's rear.
Ten minutes later, Lin Yi stopped with the convoy at the Small Town entrance, looking back at the Small Town with lingering fear.
Inside the Small Town, monsters ran rampant, and screams rang out from time to time.
To Lin Yi's surprise, Liu Ruyan's and Lu Sheng's contribution points remained conspicuous.
"That little bitch really knows how to stay alive."
Watching the two notifications draw closer and closer, Lin Yi could not help inwardly marveling.
As for Huang Nana, she had long since escaped safely.
Lin Yi stood at the edge of the crowd.
His gaze, however, surveyed the front of the crowd.
A barefoot old man stood at the very front of the convoy, and everyone around him deferred to him.
Leaning on a dark gray cane, the barefoot old man stared toward the Small Town with bright, piercing eyes that held a trace of worry.
"Master, Master..."
The familiar voice rang out again.
Lin Yi looked up, his pupils contracting.
It was the boy he had encountered while fleeing for his life.
As the distance between them shrank, the boy's appearance finally came into view.
The boy looked fifteen or sixteen, covered in dust and dressed in a simple tracksuit. His face was filthy, and his eyes were vacant, yet held a hint of confusion.
"Elder Qi, is he a Weird?"
Li Yong stood beside Elder Qi and spoke quietly.
A trace of puzzlement flashed through Elder Qi's eyes. Then he shook his head. "No. I don't sense a Weird's aura."
"Ah, probably another kid scared out of his wits."
Li Yong sighed and was about to step forward to stop the boy and have him join him. At the very least, he could keep the boy from starving to death.
But the boy went around him and walked straight toward Lin Yi.
Staring with vacant eyes, he simply repeated the same word.
"Master... Master..."
