Background / History

Chen Xuan was originally a man from Earth who transmigrated during the Wu-Demon Cataclysm after making a sarcastic remark about a romance novel. Rather than arriving independently, he awakened within Ancestor Witch Houtu’s body, forming a symbiotic existence in which their fates became linked. He retained knowledge of the Primordial Desolation’s future trajectory from reading related novels in his previous life. 1

Upon awakening, Chen Xuan learned that Dao Ancestor Hongjun was urging Houtu to transform into the Six Paths of Reincarnation. He warned her that this would not save the Wu clan, but would instead allow the Heavenly Dao to suppress the Underworld Path and turn its authority into a tool of the Xuanmen Sages. 1 2

His existence mended Houtu’s formerly incomplete Primordial Spirit. After Houtu accepted his account of Hongjun’s scheme and asked for aid, Chen Xuan began taking control of her body in critical confrontations, publicly rejecting Hongjun’s demand that she become Reincarnation. 2

Although Chen Xuan initially opposed Houtu’s transformation because it would occur under Hongjun’s control and consume her physical body, he later concluded that reincarnation was an inevitable Great Dao trend. Chen Xuan is defiant, calculating, and exceptionally uncompromising toward Hongjun and the Heavenly Dao Sages. He rejects negotiated retreats when he believes they would leave the Wu clan vulnerable, arguing that enemies who have already acted to suppress the clan cannot safely be spared. 17

He repeatedly adopts extreme measures—such as detonating the Dutian God-Demon Array and sacrificing Ancestor Witch essence blood—to force a path forward. His guiding conviction is that the Wu clan must fight rather than accept destruction or submission. 21 28 37
