Malfoy's Journey to Hogwarts (Part 2)
Draco was stunned! He stood frozen in place, unable to say a word.
Harry Potter had actually rejected his friendship—the friendship of the Malfoy Family!?
More importantly, Harry had rejected him because of some little red-haired brat from the Weasley family? Draco wondered whether he had not fully woken up yet, or whether he had boarded the train wrong somehow. Otherwise, why was he hallucinating?
The more Draco looked at that red-haired brat, the angrier and more wronged he felt.
As the saying went, there was no need to endure what could no longer be endured. Unable to swallow this humiliation, Draco decisively charged in.
Crabbe and Goyle, who had been trailing behind Draco and watching the show, saw their boss make a move. What was there to think about? (More importantly, there was nothing their brains could come up with anyway.) The two immediately rushed in as well.
When Harry saw that someone actually dared to bully the friend he had just made right in front of him, there was nothing more to say. Beat the hell out of them!
A melee broke out, and the commotion alerted the prefects patrolling the train carriages. Two fifth-year prefects swiftly pulled them apart.
Seeing that he would not be able to take out that little brat today, Draco could only leave in fury. He would go back and make a proper plan. This was not over!
Draco returned to his compartment with his two lackeys, who were also somewhat bruised and battered. He was even more dissatisfied with Crabbe and Goyle now.
They had three people on their side while the other side only had two. After he held Harry back, should Crabbe and Goyle not have been able to deal with Weasley in no time at all? Yet they had somehow fought to a draw. It was utterly humiliating!
"Malfoy, aren't we going to find Menethil?" Crabbe asked cautiously.
He could tell Malfoy was in a terrible mood, so he had not wanted to speak. But remembering his father's repeated instructions, and the fact that he had lost a round of rock-paper-scissors to Goyle just now, he could only force himself to ask.
"Find what Menethil! I'm not in the mood right now. We'll talk about it later! He's at Hogwarts anyway; it's not like he can run away. Sooner or later makes no difference!"
Draco had neither the mood nor the time to look for some useless brat from the Menethil Family. He needed to go back and think carefully about how to win Harry back.
Because of what happened at noon, Draco never left his compartment again until the train arrived at Hogwarts.
Standing outside the Great Hall, Draco felt a little nervous. Though he was one hundred percent confident that he would enter Slytherin House, he did not know how Hogwarts would decide which House each of them belonged to.
The new students around him were nervously discussing what they would face during the upcoming Sorting Ceremony. Draco listened carefully for a while and found that not a single thing they said was reliable.
Some said they had to defeat a Troll; some said everyone would be thrown into a free-for-all brawl. The most ridiculous claim was that they only needed to wear a shabby old hat, and it would place them into the House best suited for them? How could that be possible! What kind of ridiculous school would let a broken old hat decide the students' futures?
Then Draco discovered that Hogwarts really did let a broken old hat decide which House the students would be placed in!? It seemed Dad had been right after all. Dumbledore was a weirdo, and Draco ought to stay far away from him.
The new students stepped forward one after another and were placed into their Houses. Soon, it was Draco's turn. Looking at the filthy old hat before him, Draco touched his smooth, clean platinum-blond hair.
I have to tell Dad to burn this broken hat!
Gritting his teeth, Draco put on the Sorting Hat and, just as expected, was sorted into Slytherin House.
Hearing the House name shouted by the Sorting Hat, Draco was so delighted that he did not even care that the hat had dirtied his hair. Amid the cheers of the older students, he held his head high and strode over to the Slytherin table, where Crabbe and Goyle were already waiting for him.
After Malfoy came Menethil. When Draco heard Professor McGonagall loudly call Bell Menethil's name, he finally remembered his second task.
In a fairly good mood now, he decided to spare a little attention for Menethil. After all, his father had specifically reminded him about this, so Draco still took it seriously.
As for having forgotten earlier? That had merely been a minor accident, perfectly understandable.
Draco looked up and saw a... young man with short black hair walking toward the Sorting Hat? Was this person really a new student? Was he really eleven, just like Draco? What on earth had he eaten growing up? How could he be so tall?
Draco decided that once the other boy was sorted into Slytherin, he could put a little more effort into welcoming him, then ask him for the secret to growing taller.
As for how he knew the other boy would be sorted into Slytherin? Come on, the Menethil Family was at least a respectable Pure-blood Wizarding Family, and Draco had heard his father say that every member of the Menethil Family had been in Slytherin. As the heir of the Menethil Family, was it not a sure thing that Bell would be sorted into Slytherin?
Then Draco was slapped in the face. He actually heard the Sorting Hat shout, "Ravenclaw"? Fortunately, he had not said what he was thinking aloud, or his face would hurt terribly right now. It seemed his original thought had been correct after all: Bell wasn't outstanding enough, which was why his father rarely took him to banquets.
Having discovered the truth, Draco lost all desire to approach Bell. He decided to tell his father about his discovery.
After all, his own family was the foremost aristocratic family of the British Wizarding World. The Menethil Family was merely some upstart that had made a bit of money in recent years. As the heir of the Malfoy Family, how could he lower himself and take the initiative to befriend them?
So rather than waste time on Menethil, he should think about Operation: Win Harry Back. He had just come up with a good idea, and he could try it tomorrow. He was really looking forward to tomorrow!
Hehehe~~! Hahahaha~~!
"Malfoy? What are you laughing about?"
A Slytherin Senior looked curiously at the new student, wondering whether there was something wrong with his head.
"Uh..."
Draco wiped the sweat trickling down his forehead. He had not expected to laugh out loud in his excitement.
"N-Nothing. I'm just so happy to have been sorted into Slytherin."
The Senior nodded and was about to say something when she heard Professor McGonagall call Harry Potter's name. Everyone's attention immediately shifted to the Sorting Hat. They were all curious which House Harry would be sorted into; it would be wonderful if it was their own House.
Draco was nervous too, even more nervous than he had been during his own sorting.
Silently, he prayed to Merlin, hoping Harry would be sorted into Slytherin House. He swore that if Merlin truly blessed Harry with a place in Slytherin, he would never make fun of Merlin's stockings again.
Perhaps Merlin really liked wearing stockings? In the end, Harry was sorted into Gryffindor House. Looking at the cheering, boisterous Gryffindors in the distance—especially that little red-haired brat from the Weasley family, whose freckles had turned red with excitement—Draco clenched his fists in jealousy.
I'll kill that little brat! I swear it in Dad's name! Draco roared inwardly.
