Standard Requirements

• Inner Court admission: The central requirement is becoming a One-Word Battle Armor Master before age twenty. Existing students are generally older than Xiao Chen’s group; the youngest mentioned is sixteen 57.
• Golden Ancient Tree access: Cultivation inside the tree normally requires an Inner Court student to have earned sufficient merit. Permission to visit Sea God Island does not automatically grant access to the tree’s interior 61.
• Semester registration: Students must report to their teacher in person at the beginning of a new semester 100.

• Xiao Chen, Gu Yue, and Na’er bypass all entrance examinations. Their direct admission is described as unprecedented in Shrek’s twenty-thousand-year history 56.
• The academy places them in a separate class and secluded villa to reduce friction with established Inner Court students 56 57.
• Their agreement does not require them to sacrifice private time to represent Shrek in outside competitions 82.

History

Legacy and Standing

Ten thousand years before the trio’s enrollment, Shrek served as humanity’s gateway into the Star Dou Great Forest and resisted repeated beast tides. Gu Yue, as the Soul Beast Co-Ruler, regards that history as grounds for hostility toward the academy 56.

By Xiao Chen’s childhood, Shrek’s name carries enormous authority among Soul Masters. Its competitive reputation rests on a supposed ten-thousand-year undefeated record, and spectators initially treat victory by its representatives as inevitable 41 43.

Tianhai Grand Competition

Ye Xinglan’s confrontation with Xiao Chen and Na’er leads Xiao Chen, Na’er, and Gu Yue to enter the Tianhai Grand Competition against Shrek. With Zhen Hua and Leng Yaoyu backing them, the organizers replace the Skysea Team’s roster with the trio 41 42.

The three overwhelm Shrek’s seven-person team. Xiao Chen restrains captain Yu Longyuan and disables most of the opposing team, while Na’er and Gu Yue attack Ye Xinglan. The defeat is broadcast across the Federation, shattering Shrek’s undefeated image and prompting an emergency Sea God Pavilion meeting 43 44 45.

Recruitment and Compromise

Cai Yue’er proposes recruiting the victors three years later so the academy can recast the defeat as a contest against its own future students. Leng Yaoyu recognizes the attempt to salvage Shrek’s reputation and initially refuses to hand over her disciples 45 49.

Xiao Chen nevertheless wants access to Sea God Island and the Golden Ancient Tree. Leng Yaoyu supports his decision but demands exceptional enrollment terms. Cai Yue’er rejects most of them, and Yun Ming initially ends the recruitment effort 50 51.

Long Yeyue intervenes, arguing that generous treatment could eventually secure the trio’s gratitude and loyalty. Despite doubting that students so closely connected to the Spirit Pagoda will remain with Shrek, Yun Ming yields. The academy accepts every condition 52 53.

Inner Court Challenges

Ya Li personally welcomes the trio and arranges their accommodation. Yun Ming hopes that treating them well will at least establish future connections, even if they never commit themselves to Shrek 56.

The academy subsequently uses challenge matches to settle objections to their special treatment. Xiao Chen defeats Feng Yanchen, a level-62 Soul Emperor and Two-Word Battle Armor Master, in one attack. His later victories include defeating a Soul Saint and overcoming nine opponents alone 57 58 61.

Yun Ming then attempts to guide Xiao Chen through a personal contest. He concedes after surviving Xiao Chen’s self-detonation only through physical strength beyond the Soul King level used as the contest’s benchmark; the result is not an unrestricted defeat of Yun Ming at full power 64.

The Golden Ancient Tree Crisis

Inside the Golden Ancient Tree, Elder Jin reveals that Ah Yin is secretly eroding its true body and threatening the Douluo Plane’s Life Core. It asks Xiao Chen to destroy her with the Command Block 69.

To compensate Xiao Chen, Elder Jin secretly raids Shrek’s treasury. It selects a hundred-thousand-year Purple Brilliant Heaven Destroying Dragon Left Arm Bone, a white dragon’s Dragon Core, and a two-hundred-thousand-year Evil Eye Tyrant Head Soul Bone. Shrek’s leadership is not informed of the theft 71.

After gaining continent-wide teleportation through the Command Block, Xiao Chen no longer needs enrollment to reach the tree and considers withdrawing. Gu Yue persuades him to remain by emphasizing the freedom he enjoys at Shrek compared with returning to the Spirit Pagoda 77.

Defeats in Mingdu

Tang Wulin’s squad challenges the Sun Moon Imperial Soul Engineering Academy in Mingdu and suffers a crushing defeat. Shrek’s elders regard this as more damaging than the Tianhai loss because their students initiated the confrontation at their rival’s gates 78 79.

Ya Li asks Xiao Chen, Gu Yue, and Na’er to fight a rematch for Shrek. All three refuse, rejecting both unconditional cultivation access to the Golden Ancient Tree and the right to select a treasure each from the treasury. They leave for vacation rather than represent the academy 82.

Shrek loses the subsequent rematch as well. The trio later returns for the new semester, retaining their Inner Court residence and separate instruction 99 100.

Star Luo Exchange

Facing mounting pressure after repeated defeats, Yun Ming assigns Xiao Chen, Gu Yue, and Na’er to the Star Luo delegation as Shrek’s strongest reserve competitors. Cai Yue’er leads the group and is explicitly ordered to protect them 113 116.

After the delegation reaches the Star Luo Empire, Cai Yue’er accepts entry into the All-Continent Young Advanced Soul Master Elite Competition in exchange for direct access to the elimination rounds and a soul bone prize for the individual champion. During the journey to Star Luo City, Xiao Chen helps repel a mecha attack on the delegation’s train 127 128.

Shrek suffers another competitive setback when Long Yue defeats Yuanen Yehui in the individual final 143.

Sea God’s Fate

After three years away, Xiao Chen decides that resuming attendance at Shrek serves no purpose. Na’er and Gu Yue nevertheless plan to attend the academy’s upcoming Sea God’s Fate Matchmaking Conference, prompting him to accompany them to watch over Na’er 164.

The three teleport directly to Sea God Lake. As the conference reaches its final segment, Na’er confesses her longstanding love for Xiao Chen amid the fireworks and celebrating couples 169.
