• An awakening’s manifestation can reveal unusual properties. Xiao Chen’s icy, deathly black Soul Power alarms experienced observers because even ordinary dark-attribute awakenings do not resemble it 2.

Circulation and Accumulation

• Soul Power circulates through the body’s meridians and can be steadily increased through cultivation 7 70 94.
• Soul Spirit integration can raise Soul Power. Ordinary Soul Masters generally gain one level from the process; Xiao Chen gains three when contracting the Evil Eye 4 5.
• Daily cultivation and a stable foundation remain important even for exceptionally talented Soul Masters 18.

Breakthrough Requirements

• Soul Rings can restrict advancement. Xiao Chen’s progress toward four rings is delayed by the lack of a suitable Soul Spirit, while his later progress toward Titled Douluo requires another ring 38 160.

• Elemental attacks: Gu Yue simultaneously manifests ice- and fire-attribute Soul Power, while Na’er channels silver, dragon-shaped Soul Power through her spear 25 26.
• Protective layers: Luo Xuege stacks layers of Soul Power around himself while retreating from Wither Storm’s tentacles 107.

Pressure and Perception

• Released Soul Power can exert oppressive pressure. Xiao Chen’s awakening makes observers struggle to breathe, while Leng Yaoyu uses her own pressure to force back Cai Yue’er’s 1 50.
• Soul Power fluctuations can reveal nearby combat or help identify an approaching person. The train conductor detects a fight through its fluctuations, and Na’er recognizes Xiao Chen’s arrival by sensing his power 21 33.
• Its character can expose danger: Wang Chen’s sinister, bloodthirsty Soul Power identifies him as an Evil Soul Master 19.

Forging

• Xiao Chen channels Soul Power through his arm and into a hammer during his first forging attempt 10.
• Precise Soul Power vibrations accompany his later metalworking 16.
• Soul Forging requires both Soul Power and Spiritual Power. Both must be infused throughout its four stages to grant metal life and spirituality; the process consumes tremendous quantities of each 97.

Formation and Function

• Soul Core condensation gathers, compresses, and purifies Soul Power into a stable core 93 94.
• A completed core produces a qualitative transformation in Soul Power and greatly improves sustained combat capability 94.
• A Spiritual Soul Core normally forms in the Upper Dantian between the brows, amplifying Spiritual Power and strengthening the Sea of Consciousness 94.
• Soul Core formation is not confined to Xiao Chen’s breakthrough rank: Yun Ming condensed his first core at rank 60 94.

Xiao Chen’s Mutations

• First core: His initially unstable Spiritual Soul Core reforms as a purple-black core containing Wither Power and infectious, assimilative, and erosive properties. It retains its normal spiritual functions 94.
• Second core: He condenses a black Destruction Soul Core in his middle dantian 167.
• Core exchange: Forcibly swapping the two cores nearly kills him. The Command Block supplies buffs that keep him alive through the process 167.
• Changed source: After the exchange, the Spiritual Soul Core becomes the source of his Soul Power and converts his entire reserve into erosive, assimilative energy. Xiao Chen concludes that competitive matches are no longer safe because his attacks would be lethal 167.
