History

The Witch Clan was one of the two dominant races of the Primordial Era, standing opposite the Demon Tribe. While the Demon Tribe ruled the heavens, the Witches ruled the earth; their tribes were spread across the continent under the leadership of the Twelve Ancestral Witches at Buzhou Mountain 4 8.

Their conflict with the Demon Tribe was fundamentally irreconcilable. Witches temper their bodies rather than cultivate magic power or primordial spirits, and the flesh of demonic beasts is a vital resource for their cultivation. The scale of Witch hunting threatened the Demon Tribe's survival, making peaceful coexistence impossible 5 6.

During the era of their supremacy, the Witch Clan also joined the Demon Tribe in slaughtering humanity. The Human Clan was unable to resist either race, with nine out of ten human tribes destroyed during this period 3.

Witch-Demon Calamity

The conflict escalated when the Ten Golden Crows attacked Witch settlements, massacring their inhabitants. Hou Yi retaliated by killing nine Golden Crows, but Eastern Emperor Taiyi destroyed him and numerous Witch warriors with the Chaos Bell 32 34.

To confront Taiyi, the Twelve Ancestral Witches deployed the Twelve Capital Celestial Gods Array, condensing a Pangu phantom armed with a phantom Heaven-Opening Divine Axe. The phantom broke Taiyi's defenses and forced Di Jun to answer with the Primordial River-Luo Great Array 34 35.

After repeated clashes and massive losses, the two races committed to a final war. The Witch Clan attacked the Demon Court under Gan Qi and Xing Tian; after Kunpeng's theft collapsed the Zhou Tian Star Dou Great Array, the Ancestral Witches directly assaulted the Demon Court 61.

The war devastated both sides. Di Jiang used a world-destroying technique against Di Jun, and seven Ancestral Witches later self-destructed to resist Taiyi's Saintly Might. Gong Gong subsequently rammed Buzhou Mountain, causing its collapse and bringing immense karma upon the surviving Witches 61 62.

Retreat to the Underworld

Before the final collapse of the clan's power, Houtu established the Six Paths of Reincarnation. Rather than use all of the resulting Merit to pursue Sainthood, she bestowed half upon the Witch Clan, clearing much of its accumulated karma and preserving a foundation for its survival 57.

Following the war, the surviving Witches relocated to the Underworld. The destruction of Buzhou Mountain nevertheless burdened their bloodline with karmic shackles: no further pure-blooded Witches could be born, though existing members could still cultivate 63.

Most remaining pure-blooded Witches became Underworld Yin Gods, receiving extended lifespans in exchange for being unable to freely participate in Primordial Era conflicts. The clan later publicly declared that it would guard the Underworld forever under Houtu's virtue 219 245.

  • Jiu Feng — The Witch Clan's leading surviving figure, a peak Quasi-Saint and the only Witch stated to possess a primordial spirit 218 246.
  • Xing Tian — God of War and late Quasi-Saint; among the few Witches capable of cultivating Heaven Opening Earth Splitting below the Ancestral Witches 5 68 246.
  • Xiang Liu, Feng Bo, Ping Yi, and Hou Qing — Surviving Quasi-Saint-level Witch powerhouses who later reincarnated to support the Jiuli Tribe 246.

Abilities & Traits

Witch Tribe Treasure Body

The Witch Clan's path centers on physical cultivation. Their bodies are naturally formidable, and the Witch Tribe Treasure Body is described as resistant to earth, water, fire, wind, divine abilities, and magical treasures 8.

  • Witches are born with cultivation above the True Immortal realm, granting them an exceptional innate foundation 4.
  • They do not normally cultivate magic power or primordial spirits, instead refining their physical bodies through battle and resources 6.
  • Demonic beast flesh is both sustenance and a cultivation resource, strengthening the bodies of younger Witches 5.

Nine Revolutions Profound Art

The Witch Clan's supreme body-tempering inheritance originates from Great God Pangu and follows the principle of breaking all methods with sheer force 4.

  • The art has nine layers; its first four correspond to the Mortal, True Immortal, Mystic Immortal, and Golden Immortal realms 4.
  • Completion is said to lead toward the path of the Primordial Grand Unity Limitless Golden Immortal 8.
  • The original art requires Witch bloodline and cannot be directly cultivated by ordinary humans 9.

True Meaning of Battling Heaven and Earth

The Witch Clan's battle intent grows more formidable under pressure, allowing its practitioners to unleash power beyond their ordinary realm in desperate combat 5 255.

  • It embodies the clan's refusal to yield to heaven and earth.
  • The intent can substantially amplify a Witch's aura and destructive power in battle 251.
  • The clan's martial culture regards combat as central to its identity and inheritance 224 251.

Divine Abilities

The Witch Clan possesses numerous battle-oriented divine abilities descended from its core inheritance 15.

  • Heaven and Earth Manifestation — Enlarges the user's body; each additional zhang increases physical strength. It is widely practiced among Witches 4 68.
  • Star Chasing Moon Catching / Star Picking Moon Grasping — High-level physical-combat arts associated with Great Witches 4 8.
  • Mountain Collapse Earth Split — A destructive physical-combat divine ability capable of shattering what lies in its path 69.
  • Heaven Opening Earth Splitting — The clan's strongest divine ability, containing a trace of Pangu's will to open heaven. Below the Ancestral Witches, Xing Tian is its principal practitioner 15 68 69.

Twelve Capital Celestial Gods Array

The ultimate formation of the Twelve Ancestral Witches condenses a phantom of Pangu wielding a phantom Heaven-Opening Divine Axe 34.

  • The Pangu phantom broke Eastern Emperor Taiyi's defenses in two attacks 35.
  • Its deployment required the unity of the Twelve Ancestral Witches 34.
  • The formation represented the peak of the Witch Clan's collective combat power during the Witch-Demon Calamity 34 35.

Equipment and Treasures

  • Ancestral Witch Hall — Central seat of the Ancestral Witches and source of mobilization orders for Witch tribes 8 37.
  • Gan Qi — Innate Spirit Treasure associated with Xing Tian; it can also be imitated through condensed Earth Fiend Qi 6 69.
  • Jade-Breaking Hook
  • Heavenly Separation Fire God Whip
  • Inch Staff
  • Heavenly Chime
  • Earth Radiance
  • Xuanming Bone Arrow
The above are listed among the Witch Clan's supreme treasures 8.

Relationships

  • Demon Tribe — Mortal enemy. The Witches' consumption of demonic beasts made coexistence impossible, culminating in the Witch-Demon Calamity 6 37.
  • Human Clan — Former victim and target of Witch slaughter; later inherited Martial Dao modeled on Witch cultivation. The relationship remained strained after the war 3 64.
  • Houtu / Pingxin — Former Ancestral Witch and protector of the clan. Her Merit preserved the clan from extinction, though her role as Underworld Empress prevents her from favoring the Witches in external disputes 57 245.
  • Witch-Human Tribe — Mixed descendants of Witches and humans. The Witch Clan later sent the Jiuli branch, led by Chi You, to humanity in an attempt to secure influence over the Human King position 219 221.
  • Jiuli Tribe — Witch-Human faction led by Chi You. The surviving Witch leadership supported its effort to challenge humanity's rule without directly initiating a clan war 245 246.

Legacy

Witch-Human descendants

The Witch-Human people inherited both human and Witch bloodlines. They are generally more suited to Martial Dao cultivation than ordinary humans, though their reproduction rate is markedly slower and their advantage narrows at higher realms 107.

  • The Witch-Human Hundred Tribes were raised within humanity as a distinct people rather than forcibly assimilated into ordinary humanity 210.
  • Their settlements bore the declaration: “Witches are born warriors, the warriors of humanity!” 210.
  • After the Jiuli conflict, Witch-Humans who accepted humanity's rules were formally designated the Miao people, an inseparable branch of humanity 261.

Martial Dao

Human Martial Dao was developed by observing and adapting Witch Clan cultivation. Unlike the Immortal Path's focus on pure energy, Martial Dao cultivates malevolent energy and martial true meaning 64.

  • The Human Clan initially concealed Martial Dao because open use of Witch-derived methods risked provoking the Witch Clan 9.
  • After the Witch-Demon Calamity, humanity openly spread Martial Dao, believing the surviving Witches no longer posed the same threat 64.
  • The modified human form of the Nine Revolutions Profound Art is weaker than the original but has lower cultivation requirements 191.
