Background and History

Early Life and Partnership with Nami

Pirates took Carina’s parents, and Granny Xika raised her. She later fled to Oykot Royal City, where she survived through swindling and theft 201 230 235.

Carina became Nami’s partner and close friend. The two regularly met at the Veterans’ Tavern and discussed opportunities connected to the warehouse district. Carina also understood the dangers facing young women in the capital, complaining about an older man who had been watching her around the theater 160.

In her first appearance, Carina called across the street with carefully exaggerated urgency while standing in front of two Marines. Their presence made Omar hesitate over openly abducting a commoner girl 150.

Entering Boer’s Protection

Carina and Nami were summoned to the Fuka Gang’s headquarters, where Boer displayed Omar’s severed head and announced that he had destroyed the marquis’s family. Carina was initially overwhelmed with fear. When Nami agreed to exchange her future for his help, Carina offered the same 160.

Boer subsequently escorted both girls to Cocoyasi Village with gifts and farming supplies. Despite recognizing his dangerous power, Carina and Nami reminded Bellemere that he had helped them and supported the orange grove 163 166.

Back in Oykot Royal City, Carina began attending noble banquets as the absent White-Haired Man’s representative. She memorized influential guests, their businesses, and their political connections, recognizing that their attention came from her proximity to Boer rather than her own standing 201.

Becoming Boer’s Girlfriend

After Boer returned from Alabasta withdrawn and heartbroken, Carina guessed that Robin was the cause. While delivering a letter from CID, she received the Ice Fox Fruit from him. Discovering Robin’s photograph in his desk strengthened her resolve to look after him 222.

Carina initially enjoyed remaining a small fox because it freed her from dressing up and attending banquets. The promise of a date at Baratie persuaded her to practice transforming again. Their restaurant outing became an important step in their relationship 227 229.

She later asked whether Boer would marry her someday. His memories of Robin complicated his response, but he reassured her, and they shared their first kiss. Boer subsequently explicitly acknowledged Carina as his girlfriend, easing her fear that he would abandon her 232 235.

Sabaody Archipelago

Leaving the East Blue exposed Carina to the scale of Boer’s influence. Seeing Marine Headquarters and learning how he had forced the World Government to compromise made her understand that his reputation rested on power, not merely official praise 237.

In Sabaody’s Celestial Dragon district, Carina overcame her fear enough to attack an armed Celestial Dragon in her enlarged fox form. She explained that she wanted to protect Boer even though he did not need her protection 238.

After sightseeing together, Carina asked for a more exciting encounter with pirates. Boer took her to Area 14 and equipped her to fight criminals and slave traders. Although she enjoyed overcoming people who once terrified her, the experience also left her questioning her own reactions to violence 241 242.

During their later meeting with Sakazuki, Carina challenged whether the Marines truly protected civilians and credited Boer with rescuing her from hardship 247 249.

Education and the Castle

While accompanying Boer’s land-reclamation work, Carina attended school in the Prodence Kingdom. She passed her mathematics test, improved quickly, and received exceptional praise from her political science teacher. Her curriculum also included biology and etiquette 260 261.

At Boer’s insistence, Carina visited Mary Geoise alone to request a castle. Saint Nusjuro accepted her plans for an electrified home with unusual residents and helpers, then personally showed her around the Holy Land. His account of the castle he had never built for his own daughter prompted Carina to promise that she would treasure hers 268.

The household soon gained Tontattas, Mink employees, animated puppets, and Homies. After visiting Egghead, Carina began setting up the completed castle through its holographic interface, assigning rooms and accommodating the residents’ individual needs 270 272.

Later Travels

Carina accompanied Boer to Fish-Man Island, attended the Dragon Palace banquet, and befriended Shirahoshi. During the week-long bubble-expansion project, she reassured Neptune about Boer’s endurance and took the princess out with her guards 276 282.

The subsequent voyage toward Alabasta revived her anxiety about Robin. Carina worried that her social tricks and companionship could not match Robin’s ability to analyze situations and help Boer navigate political struggles 287.

Nevertheless, she continued supporting him during Alabasta’s restoration, noticing his exhaustion and asking who helped him after he spent his days helping everyone else. Boer answered that she did 303.

When Boer eventually brought Robin to the castle after the events at Marineford, Carina welcomed her nervously. Robin responded with affection rather than rivalry, and the two joined together to confront Boer over his behavior 321.

Appearance

  • Original human appearance: Long blue to blue-violet hair, fair skin, and a slender build. She initially wears bright, fashionable clothes and sometimes ties her hair into a high ponytail 150 160 201.
  • Small fox form: White fur, pale blue eyes, short legs, and a long, fluffy tail 222 227.
  • Fox-human form: Long silver-white hair, upright white fox ears, pale blue eyes, and a bushy white tail. Her ears and tail frequently reveal emotions she is trying to hide 229 232 270.
  • Enlarged beast form: An entirely white, eight-meter-long fox with powerful limbs and sharp fangs 238.
  • Notable clothing: Red-and-white Shinto attire for her Baratie date; a black leather outfit during her Sabaody visit; a blue blazer and plaid skirt at the Royal Women’s Academy 229 240 261.

Personality

Carina is observant, resourceful, and practiced at managing appearances. Her early use of staged urgency and her later ability to handle probing nobles show how readily she adapts her behavior to an audience. She remembers faces, names, and the interests behind flattering conversations 150 201.

Her toughness developed through hardship. She tells Boer that she learned early that crying did not help, and that she held herself together when Nami was frightened because her friend was already crying. Her concern for Nami includes defending Nami’s right to pursue her own dream 235.

With Boer, Carina becomes openly affectionate, playful, and dependent. She values not only his wealth and strength but the safety he gives her: after he entered her life, people stopped daring to bully her. That attachment also produces jealousy and a persistent fear that she cannot secure a lasting place beside him 232 235 245 287.

Carina is capable of violence without being emotionally untouched by it. After attacking criminals in Area 14, she worries that enjoying the experience might make her a “twisted criminal.” Her excitement and unease coexist rather than resolving into simple confidence 242.

She is also attentive to Boer’s emotional condition. She notices his grief over Robin and later his exhaustion in Alabasta, offering companionship and practical comfort rather than demanding that he remain invulnerable 222 303.

Abilities & Skills

Ice Fox Fruit

A Mythical Zoan that grants Carina fox transformations, enhanced physical strength, and ice-related abilities 222 238 239 252.

  • Transformation: Can assume small fox, enlarged fox, fox-human, and ordinary human appearances 227 238 321.
  • Strength: Carries an iron case over a meter tall and packed with Beli as though it were empty 239.
  • Scent detection: Detects a woman’s perfume on a visit request and distinguishes Boer’s familiar scent among the household’s other smells 232 270.
  • Ice and cold: Generates ice crystals, cooling mist, and a compact ball of snowy vapor 252 297.
  • Limitations: Early transformation attempts are clumsy, and prolonged cooling leaves her sweating and short of breath. Boer remarks that her development has been slow because she has neglected practice 227 252.

Deception and Social Intelligence

Carina’s original trade is swindling, supported by theft, persuasive speech, and close attention to other people’s reactions 201 230 287.

  • Uses convincing performances to influence a situation 150.
  • Handles noble banquets while remembering guests and their commercial or political backing 201.
  • Recognizes that access to Boer is the real commodity sought by influential people 201.
  • Considers these abilities inadequate when comparing herself with Robin’s strategic usefulness 287.

Equipment-Assisted Combat

Boer’s weapons and armor allow Carina to fight beyond her own demonstrated training level 242.

  • Uses airborne targeting assistance to shoot marked criminals.
  • Trades blows with Crab and Lobster, two experienced ability users possessing Armament and Observation Haki.
  • Remains inexperienced: her accuracy is poor during the close fight, and she narrowly avoids several attacks.
  • Her flight, enemy markers, and advanced weapons in this encounter are supplied by Boer, not established as powers of the Ice Fox Fruit 242.

Study and Household Management

  • Quickly improves in mathematics and earns unusually strong praise in political science 260.
  • Uses the castle’s holographic interface to configure rooms and record residents’ requests 272.
  • Provides massages that help Boer relax after demanding work 303.

Equipment, Residence & Companions

  • Electric Gun: Boer-adjusted weapon that inflicts severe shocks and paralysis rather than melting its targets 242.
  • Streamlined Battle Armor: Silver-blue armor with a chest energy core, floating shoulder shields, and upgraded Electromagnetic Wings 242.
  • Electromagnetic Pulse Gun and Lightsaber: Used together against Crab and Lobster; the pulse briefly numbs an opponent despite his Armament Haki 242.
  • Intelligent castle: An electrified residence with holographic controls, a rotatable three-dimensional model, room assignments, and configurable features 268 272.
  • Household helpers: Lulu and Maru of the Tontatta Tribe; twelve Mink employees; a Musician puppet, sixteen chess puppets, a chef puppet, and a cleaner doll 270.

  • Giant pink pearl: A gift from Jinbe during the Dragon Palace feast 276.

  • Nami — Partner and best friend. Carina supports her dream, confides in her, and remains close enough for teasing and playful quarrels after their circumstances change 160 235 270.

  • Robin — Initially an absent romantic rival whose importance frightens Carina. Their eventual meeting becomes affectionate, with Robin reassuring her and taking her side against Boer 287 321.
