Background and History

Origin and seclusion

Gu Yuena’s authority as Soul Beast Co-Ruler comes from being half of the Dragon God. Although she inherited his wisdom, tens of thousands of years spent asleep left her with little practical experience; she privately considers Di Tian more experienced in several respects. Before meeting Huo Yuhao, she intended to wait another ten thousand years for her injuries to heal before entering human society 6.

She resides in a concealed, layered space beneath the lake in the Star Dou Great Forest. Huo Yuhao detects its nearly imperceptible spatial fluctuations, drawing her attention and prompting their first meeting 5.

Alliance with Huo Yuhao

Gu Yuena initially treats humanity and Soul Beasts as irreconcilable enemies. Her attitude changes when Huo Yuhao questions why Soul Beasts must die to support human advancement and condemns the Divine Realm’s control over mortal lives 5.

They agree to oppose the Divine Realm together. If Huo Yuhao resolves the Soul Beasts’ crisis, Gu Yuena promises not to take revenge on humanity or restore the Divine Realm. Di Tian alone witnesses their agreement beside the lake 5 6.

The sudden blocking of divine surveillance gives them a window of up to twenty years. Gu Yuena chooses to accompany Huo Yuhao to Shrek Academy, both to learn from humanity and to remain close to their new ally. She also permits the Auspicious Beast to join them, names her Gu Qiu’er, and establishes their cover as sisters 6.

Shrek Academy and technological reform

Before leaving, Gu Yuena formally recognizes Huo Yuhao as an ally and orders the Ferocious Beasts to organize the forest’s Soul Beasts, gather ores, and avoid attracting human attention. She also arranges a willing, dying Illusion Butterfly’s sacrifice so that he can obtain a Soul Ring without hunting a healthy Soul Beast 7.

At Shrek Academy, she and Gu Qiu’er enroll as unusually powerful Soul Elders and share Dormitory 408. Exposure to Soul Tools convinces Gu Yuena that technological change threatens the Soul Beasts’ survival. After Huo Yuhao warns that humans may eventually raise them in captivity for Soul Rings, she asks for his help and commits herself to studying his knowledge 8 15 16.

She subsequently makes education part of the forest’s preparations, distributing her notes and requiring regular study. Under Di Tian’s supervision, the Soul Beasts gather materials and build a metallurgical tower, which Huo Yuhao equips to identify, smelt, and sort metals automatically 18 26.

Freshman competition and later cooperation

Gu Yuena competes alongside Huo Yuhao and Gu Qiu’er in the freshman assessment. She eliminates Cui Yajie at the start of the semifinal, then helps dispatch Xu Yang’s teammates in the final, securing the championship for their team 28.

She also assists Huo Yuhao’s medical work. During Mu En’s treatment, she offers to suppress the savage aura of his Dragon Core and receives it as payment afterward. Later, she works with Electrolux to remove the Divine Sense endangering Wang Dong’er 23 25 44.

By the time Electrolux introduces Soul Spirits, the forest’s Soul Beasts have begun accepting Huo Yuhao’s promises because his teachings produce tangible gains in strength. Gu Yuena helps celebrate his birthday, while the Soul Beasts regard him as the future partner of both their ruler and the Auspicious Beast 48.

Tang San’s remembered timeline

In the timeline recalled by the reborn Tang San, Gu Yuena holds the title Goddess of Life, is married to Tang Wulin, and is Tang Xuanyu’s mother. After learning the truth about earlier manipulation, she no longer feels much affection for Tang Wulin once bloodline and mental suggestions cease influencing her 11.

She secretly supports Huo Yuhao’s overthrow of the Divine Realm and secures Di Tian’s allegiance. Although she pleads for Tang Xuanyu’s life, Huo Yuhao refuses. During the uprising, she kills five members of the First Generation Shrek, kills Tang Wulin with her spear, and intercepts the God Kings attempting to aid Tang San 11.

These events belong to Tang San’s memories, not to Gu Yuena’s documented advancement in the current storyline. Tang Yin later suspects that she has also been reborn, but this remains his interpretation 11 22.

Personality

Gu Yuena maintains a composed, authoritative manner before her followers, partly because she fears the consequences of appearing incompetent. Privately, she recognizes the limits of inherited wisdom and seeks practical experience by observing Huo Yuhao’s planning and judgment 6.

Her responsibility toward the Soul Beast Clan outweighs her pride. She is willing to learn from humanity and even offers to accept any condition in exchange for help against the threat posed by Soul Tools. Huo Yuhao instead insists on an alliance between comrades, earning her respect and deepening her attachment to him 16.

She is protective but can be ruthless: she proposes killing the suspicious Xu Yang and nearly crushes Tian Meng when she thinks he is trying to possess Huo Yuhao. Nevertheless, she accepts Huo Yuhao’s restraint and later acknowledges that the Soul Beasts’ dependence on innate abilities was a form of arrogance 9 33 49.
