Background / History

Previous Life and Rebirth

Tang San originally lived in another world, where he was an outer disciple of the Tang Sect. He stole the sect’s secret arts before reincarnating into the Douluo world. Those techniques became the foundation of his early strength 42.

Despite growing up and becoming a god on Douluo, his attachment to his birthplace is questioned by Huo Yun. She speculates that his emotional allegiance remains with the Tang Sect of his previous life, making it easier for him to act against the world that nurtured him 15.

Legendary Career

Ten thousand years before the present storyline, Tang San led his companions against Spirit Hall and subsequently brought them with him into godhood. This history survives as a widely known legend portraying him as righteous and Spirit Hall as evil. Huo Yun disputes that moral framing, describing it as the victors’ version of events rather than denying his ascension 15.

After becoming a god, Tang San resurrected the Sky Azure Bull Python and Titan Giant Ape, who also became gods. They later managed the Clear Sky Sect on his behalf. He additionally preserved and secretly supported the Sea God Family, the followers who had once guarded the First Generation Sea God’s legacy 15 30.

Conflict with the World Consciousness

According to Huo Yun, Tang San used his Sea God authority to secretly consume a considerable portion of Douluo’s origin. That authority had originally been taken from the World Consciousness by the First Generation Sea God, leaving her unable to control the oceans 15 16.

The original consciousness nurtured Huo Yuhao as a Child of Destiny who could eventually become an independent God King and defend her. Tang San instead sought to control him, removing her final means of resistance so that his father, Tang Hao, could devour her and take control of the world 15.

In the original course of events known to Huo Yun, this strategy succeeded: Huo Yuhao became Tang San’s right-hand man, and Tang Hao refined the original Douluo Consciousness. Huo Yun’s arrival as the new consciousness creates a different course of events 1.

Personality

Tang San presents himself as a considerate, rule-conscious deity. When discussing the unfamiliar divine soul inside Huo Yuhao, he cautions against killing innocents and describes surveillance and restraints as protective measures. Electrolux recognizes that these apparently benevolent proposals would place the child directly under Tang San’s control 11.

His planning relies heavily on emotional dependence and personal relationships. He proposes raising his daughter alongside Huo Yuhao and later admits that he intended to arrange their marriage. Huo Yun also identifies the daughter’s martial soul fusion with Huo Yuhao as another means of binding him to Tang San 11 38 42.

Tang San insists that his plans will save the declining world, resolve human–soul beast resentment, and lead Douluo toward greater prosperity. However, when Huo Yun obstructs him, he threatens to destroy Huo Yuhao’s opportunities, cripple him, or kill him. His internal response to the failed Ice God scheme likewise treats his chosen candidate as an expendable pawn 17 41 42.

Abilities & Skills

Divine Authority

Tang San holds the Sea God and Asura God positions at the rank of Supreme God King 15.

  • Ocean authority: His Sea God position controls Douluo’s oceans, an area outside Huo Yun’s effective control 16.
  • Consumption of planetary origin: Huo Yun attributes the loss of much of her origin to his exploitation of Sea God authority 15.
  • Divine Realm Core administration: He oversees the Core and can use it to gather and condense the Divine Realm’s Immortal Spirit Qi 39 45.
  • Incomplete godhood risk: Losing even a small portion of ocean authority weakens the completeness of his Sea God position. If left unresolved for tens of thousands of years, the loss would eventually cause that godhood to collapse 17.

Remote Intervention and Concealment

Tang San acts on Douluo from the Divine Realm through intermediaries, stored divine power, and borrowed bodies 12 32 42.

  • Communicates with his agents through a water screen 11.
  • Converts energy stored in bracelets into a chain capable of restraining a target 12 13.
  • Channels power through the Sea God Helmet, repelling the Snow Empress and suppressing nearly a hundred thousand soul beasts 32.
  • Controls Bing’er’s body during the Ice God trials while his true body remains beside the other God Kings 42.
  • Conceals his agents’ divine auras to evade detection. Their use of actual divine power would expose the arrangement 12.

His freedom to intervene is limited by the Divine Realm’s prohibition against gods interfering in the mortal world. He therefore arranges circumstances that can be explained as mortals using power he previously left behind 12 32 33.

Tang Sect Secret Arts

Tang San retains the techniques learned in his previous world and uses them through Bing’er’s body 42.

  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: Evasive footwork used to circle opponents and avoid attacks.
  • Purple Demon Eye: A signature eye technique, visibly manifested by a purple glow.
  • Hidden weapon techniques: Used to launch ice needles at the Snow Empress’s vital points.
  • Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon: A grappling art that generates pulling force through a palm vortex. A hurried application diverts the Snow Empress’s Emperor Palm enough to avoid being struck.
  • Mysterious Heaven Skill: The internal cultivation art described as powering Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon.

Martial Soul and Life-Devouring Abilities

  • Clear Sky Hammer: His second martial soul, whose ninth ring is a Million-Year Soul Ring 8 13.
  • Eight Spider Lances: Before becoming a god, he used their life-devouring ability to absorb soul beasts’ vitality and strengthen himself. Huo Yun cites this when comparing some of his methods to those of evil soul masters 27.

Borrowed Ice-Attribute Body

During the Ice God trials, Tang San controls a three-ring body with the Heavenly Snow Woman martial soul 42.

  • Creates ice needles and uses a third soul skill to form an ice sword.
  • Holds a cultivation advantage over the Snow Empress’s newly cultivated two-ring human form.
  • Cannot resist Huo Yuhao’s Absolute Control of Ice Elements, which disrupts and drains the borrowed body’s ice-attributed soul power.
  • Lacks the ice-law mastery needed to overcome that control, despite his true identity as a God King 42 43.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Aura-concealing bracelets — Given to Da Ming and Er Ming to hide their divine auras. Tang San later liquefies and merges them into a chain 11 12.
  • Blue Chains — A restraint containing a small portion of ocean authority. Electrolux captures it, and Huo Yun subsequently embeds it in a heavenly tribulation rule 13 16 17.
  • Sea God Helmet replica — A divine artifact left with his followers, containing his power. It becomes the instrument through which he intervenes in the Far North and triggers the Ice God’s Divine Seat 32 33.
  • Eighteen God-Given Soul Rings — Offered as compensation for the Ice God incident. Each can provide a ring suited to its recipient’s endurance; the Ice God destroys all eighteen after leaving the Divine Realm 45.

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father and beneficiary of the plan to seize Douluo. In the original course of events, he refines the World Consciousness 1 15.
  • Xiao Qi — Daughter whom Tang San sends to the mortal world. He intends her to grow up alongside Huo Yuhao and eventually become his wife 11 14 17 42.
  • Xiao Wu — Someone Tang San says he will consult before sending Xiao Qi to live with Da Ming and Er Ming 14.
  • Huo Yuhao — The Child of Destiny Tang San wants as a subordinate and son-in-law. Huo Yuhao instead makes defeating him and protecting Huo Yun central goals 15 42.
  • Huo Yun / Douluo Consciousness — Opponent whose origin and planetary authority are threatened by his plans 15 16.
  • Da Ming and Er Ming — Resurrected divine allies who administer the Clear Sky Sect, capture Huo Yuhao, and accept responsibility for Xiao Qi’s stay on Douluo 11 14 15.
  • Electrolux — Huo Yuhao’s protector, who identifies Tang San’s scheme and severs his connection to the captured ocean authority 11 13 17.
  • Bing’er — Candidate he selects for the Ice God inheritance and prepares as a puppet. He sacrifices her autonomy to attack Huo Yuhao 42 46.
  • Ice God — Rejects his interference with her inheritance and secures compensation for Huo Yuhao, her chosen successor 42 44 45.
  • God of Destruction — Fellow God King whose scrutiny constrains Tang San’s interference. He becomes suspicious of Tang San during the Ice God succession 12 39 41.
  • Sea God Family — A hidden force of believers Tang San has secretly sustained for ten thousand years 30.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Early Pressure on Huo Yuhao

Huo Yun attributes Huo Yuhao’s impoverished childhood, damaged foundation, and emotional deprivation to Tang San’s planning. She believes these circumstances were intended to slow his cultivation and make him excessively attached to anyone who showed him kindness. These conclusions are presented as her deductions 4.

After Huo Yun preserves Huo Yun’er and conceals Huo Yuhao’s whereabouts, Tang San loses important sources of leverage. Huo Yun later explains that the disturbance caused by Huo Yuhao obtaining his soul ring allowed him to locate the child again 9 19.

Capture at the Clear Sky Sect

Da Ming and Er Ming take Huo Yuhao to the Clear Sky Sect after detecting Electrolux’s god-level soul. Tang San proposes leaving a “safeguard” on the child and finding him a playmate in Xiao Qi. Electrolux recognizes the arrangement as an attempt to control Huo Yuhao under the appearance of protecting him 11.

Tang San forms the Blue Chains and attempts to bind him. Electrolux blocks the restraint while Huo Yun brings powerful soul beasts to support a rescue. Huo Yuhao escapes, and Electrolux takes the chain 12 13 15 16.

Ocean Authority Counterattack

Huo Yun embeds the captured ocean authority into the heavenly tribulation rule affecting soul beasts. Recovering it now requires Tang San to alter the rule and bear the cost, while abandoning it would leave his Sea God position incomplete 17.

Tang San responds with explicit threats against Huo Yuhao’s opportunities and life, then sends two beams of blue-gold light toward the ocean and the Heaven Dou Empire 17.

Restricting Cultivation Opportunities

Tang San’s followers enter the Far North under the claim that an ultimate-ice soul beast is concealing the Ice God’s Divine Seat. Electrolux suspects that slaughtering powerful ice soul beasts is intended to deprive Huo Yuhao of high-quality future soul rings 27.

Tang San also controls access to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He planted vast numbers of jade-scale seven-extinction flowers around it, whose collective poison turned the surrounding Sunset Forest into a land of death. Huo Yun discovers that divine power now prevents her from probing the well and suspects that it has been enclosed in a separate space 27 28.

Far North Assault and the Ice God’s Divine Seat

When the Sea God Family is defeated by the Far North’s defenders, Tang San activates power within the Sea God Helmet. He then sends a ribbon of light into the region’s depths, triggering the Ice God’s Divine Seat and releasing a cold current that affects half of Douluo 32.

Before the God Realm Committee, he presents the event as an unintended consequence of a follower using his artifact. He accepts responsibility and proposes taking charge of the response, including an apparent removal of the divine seat that would actually leave it in place 33.

Failed Assassination During the Trials

Tang San presents Bing’er as a promising candidate whose martial soul he upgraded after treating her for excessive ice-marrow consumption. His actual aim is to obtain another controlled divine subordinate 39 46.

When Huo Yuhao approaches the inheritance, Tang San fears that the Ice God’s power could provide a foundation for his eventual rise to God King. He takes control of Bing’er and attacks Huo Yuhao inside the temple, then fights the Snow Empress when she intervenes 41 42.

Huo Yuhao completes his Ice God martial soul awakening, drains the borrowed body’s ice-attributed soul power, and kills it with one punch. Tang San’s true body survives in the Divine Realm 43 46.

Compensation and Aftermath

Tang San apologizes to the Ice God for his poor judgment in selecting a candidate. He tries to replace the proposed compensation from shared Divine Realm resources with his own payment, partly because a personal gift would let him continue tracking Huo Yuhao 44.

He ultimately offers eighteen God-Given Soul Rings and uses the Divine Realm Core to gather the agreed one percent of Immortal Spirit Qi. The Ice God accepts the compensation but crushes all eighteen rings after leaving. Tang San is left acknowledging a major loss after investing heavily in Bing’er and concealing her puppet status from the inheritance 45 46.
