After university, she briefly taught English at Haicheng No. 1 High School, including one semester as Gu Qing’s teacher. She resigned shortly after her internship because she disliked teaching. With several million in startup funds from her parents, she opened a large pet shop in Haicheng’s busiest shopping mall 26.

Her parents’ company later collapsed, leaving the family heavily indebted. She sold the shop to help repay the debts, then used her remaining savings to open a sixty-square-meter pet shop across from Gu Qing’s residential complex. She also ran a personal TikTok account to supplement her income 26.

The financial pressure drove her to train and resell pets continuously, eventually awakening her beast-taming ability. After Gu Qing discovers her Night Court position, she clarifies that her account of the bankruptcy was genuine, though she had concealed her subsequent entry into the supernatural world 63.

With Gu Qing and Xia Shuran, she is considerably warmer. She teaches Gu Qing without charging him, patiently answers questions, and repeatedly takes practical steps to keep him safe. She regards helping ordinary people caught in supernatural incidents as part of her professional duty 26 102 282 286.

She is intensely competitive. Her longstanding rivalry with Lu Kexi motivates her planned return to the Origin Land, while Gu Qing and Li Zhan’s performances force her to reconsider her confidence that only Lu Kexi could rival her among the Night Court’s under-thirty talents 317 330.

Her social judgment is careful: she declines a meal delivery when she believes it would inconvenience Gu Qing’s mother during Xia Shuran’s visit. When three women attack her shop under a shadow creature’s influence, her supernatural role becomes apparent. Her Fire Crow destroys the shadow manifestation, and Night Court members address her as their captain. Liu Zhiyi examines the Magic Mirror after it traps Xia Shuran, warns Gu Qing about its possible remnant soul, and supplies supernatural power during the rescue effort.
