The officer pondered for a moment and finally figured it out.
Celebrities all had plenty of fans: Girlfriend Fans, Older Sister Fans, Mom Fans, Dad Fans...
The lady before him must have been one of those legendary Mom Fans.
Having worked that out, the officer continued his questioning. "Why were you following Mr. Xu?"
Lin Zhiya answered honestly, "I missed him. I wanted to see him."
Originally, Lin Zhiya had planned to invite Xu Chao home for dinner. She had even spent days preparing for it.
But between shooting commercials and filming movies, Xu Chao had no time to spare at home.
Left with no other choice, Lin Zhiya had quietly asked around about Xu Chao's schedule, intending to follow behind and catch a glimpse of him from afar.
Who knew she would end up hauled into the police station!
"Where did you get Mr. Xu's schedule?" the officer continued.
Lin Zhiya answered again. "My second son told me."
"When did you start following him?"
Lin Zhiya thought for a moment. "When he was eating at Shaxian Snacks. Oh, right, officer, I want to report someone."
It was his first time taking a statement only for the suspect to turn around and report someone else. "Go ahead."
"I want to report Chen Chong. He's abusing my son!"
"My darling Chaochao is still a child. He's growing, but Chen Chong only takes him to eat at Shaxian, and all he orders is nutrient-poor stuff like tossed noodles, wontons, steamed dumplings, and chicken drumsticks. He's gone too far!"
As she spoke, Lin Zhiya's eyes reddened with anger.
The officer was speechless. He ate all that, and you still call it abuse?
But by this point in the questioning, he could more or less confirm that she was just an extreme celebrity obsessive. She did not have much in the way of bad intentions; her brain just did not work very well.
Since she had neither physically harmed anyone nor behaved in any particularly extreme way, the police focused on reprimanding and educating her. Yet even after a lengthy, earnest lecture, Lin Zhiya still looked utterly unrepentant.
The officer sighed. "We've notified your family about this and asked someone to take you home."
Lin Zhiya panicked instantly. "No, no! I'll go home myself. I'll have my driver pick me up. I'll take a taxi. Anything is fine, just don't tell my family!"
If her family found out she had followed her son all the way into a police station...
"But your husband is already here," the officer told her truthfully.
Lin Zhiya felt as though she had been struck by lightning.
As luck would have it, Xu Chao, outside, also felt as though he had been struck by lightning.
"What, what, what? The Sasaeng Fan in there is my mom?"
Fu Sichen, who had rushed over as soon as he received the call from the police station, nodded calmly.
Xu Chao was like duckweed in the rain, battered by wind and frost, on the verge of collapse. This goddamn world was determined to make him shed little pearls, was it?!
He had not received all of the Original Host's memories, and the author's descriptions of the characters' appearances amounted to beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, handsome, handsome, handsome. How was he supposed to tell who was who?
In the midst of his anxiety, he suddenly heard Chen Chong ask, "Your mom, your mom, your mom, uh, your mom..."
"Oh, come on, Dog Bro. Fifty-Year-Old Lady Guards the Nation's Gate already has it hard enough. Stop making Teacher Yingzi jokes."
Xu Chao's true nature as someone who lived for a laugh instantly came out.
Chen Chong was truly floored by this display of filial devotion.
Was he making a joke?
Xu Chao had gone all out right in her face without even recognizing his own mother. Absolutely ridiculous!
Chen Chong really wanted to grab Xu Chao and demand to know what was going on, but his eyes flicked toward Fu Sichen, whose presence beside them was impossible to ignore, and he quietly withdrew his hand.
He did not want to die. Really.
"Ahem, Chaochao, what exactly happened?"
"Well, well, well..." Xu Chao agonized over it for 0.00001 seconds, then resolutely began shifting the blame. "I was just making a joke. I didn't think you'd actually call the police."
Chen Chong instantly flared up, then instantly deflated, asking gently through gritted teeth, "What joke were you making?"
Xu Chao puffed out his chest and lifted his chin, every bit as bold despite being in the wrong. "I'm a level-ten diehard Huanhuan fan. What's wrong with making a joke about Longyue's 'can't recognize her own mother' makeup?"
Beside him, Fu Sichen looked enlightened and nodded. "So that's what happened."
Chen Chong was full of question marks. That fucking works too?!
In Fu Sichen's eyes, Xu Chao could say anything, as long as it was not about leaving.
Just then, a tall figure entered through the doorway.
Fu Sichen lifted his eyelids and said mildly, "Father-in-law is here."
Fu Sichen's father-in-law? Wouldn't that be his dad? His actual dad was here!
Xu Chao's head shot up.
Though the man was already over fifty, he had none of a middle-aged man's flabbiness or sleaziness. Instead, he was tall, lean, and straight-backed, with a refined yet easygoing air and elegant bearing. An undeniably handsome older man!
Everyone loved beauty, and Xu Chao's eyes sparkled as he looked at him.
The man paused in his steps, then continued toward them.
Fu Sichen reached out and gripped Xu Chao's hand tightly before saying slowly, "Father-in-law."
Xu Chao obediently followed his example. "Father-in-law-ah, no. Hello, honored Father."
Xu Ruhan abruptly froze, his dark eyes looking over intently.
Ah, well, calling him Dad at their first meeting really was a little impolite. Xu Chao scratched his head, trying to think of a way to fix it, only to hear Xu Ruhan answer emphatically, "Yes!"
As soon as he spoke, Xu Ruhan reached inside his jacket. Uh, he was so nervous that he failed to pull anything out.
Xu Chao asked curiously, "Dad, what are you doing?"
Xu Ruhan's brows furrowed slightly. Looking around as though he were very busy, he asked, "Where's your mom?"
That question was rather awkward.
He had sent his mom to the police station.
