Lin Ye suddenly felt something was a bit off. Why would he give up so easily?
Was it because he had simulated too much?
He thought he could start over this time, but what about the next? And the time after that?
What about after ten times?
"What do we do about this? Even bullets can be stopped, we can't beat them at all, we might as well surrender."
Hans at the side suddenly said in a low voice.
Lin Ye suddenly snapped out of it. He looked at Red-haired Caroline; she seemed to have moved a little closer.
"Hehehe, so that's how it is. What are you afraid of?"
Lin Ye smiled. He wasn't afraid of the opponent using underhanded tricks, only of the opponent being a stat monster-that was truly unbeatable.
"What did you say?"
Red-haired Caroline spoke for the first time, her voice carrying a strange, turbid quality.
"I said, you should have just attacked directly."
If it had attacked directly, Lin Ye might not have made the correct response. It was probably used to using language and abilities to induce others, yet forgot about its own most direct, quickest, most primitive, and also most useful violence.
Without any pause, Lin Ye drew his dual pistols and expressionlessly aimed the muzzles at Dr. Caroline.
It wasn't until Lin Ye redirected his gun barrels that its expression changed for the first time.
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!
Without holding anything back, Lin Ye emptied his magazine. All the bullets were blocked in front of Dr. Caroline, the casings clattering onto the ground. Across the distance, it was clearly visible that she was straining hard.
Swiftly reloading his magazine, Lin Ye held two handguns, pointing one at Red-haired Caroline and the other at Dr. Caroline, firing simultaneously. The bullets no longer stopped in mid-air, but were deflected at a certain angle, grazing past their sides.
Lin Ye emptied all the magazines on his body at the fastest speed, and without the slightest pause thereafter, drew his long saber and charged at Red-haired Caroline.
There was no probing, no communication, no hesitation, only an all-or-nothing desperate fight.
Either you die, or I do.
Red-haired Caroline began to retreat. The main body it had abandoned was almost destroyed by the captain, and it didn't have much time left, yet it lacked the courage to fight Lin Ye to the death.
Since its birth, it had always been the side controlling the situation, never having been forced into close-quarters combat with these low-level creatures.
Just now, blocking the bullets had consumed a massive amount of psionic energy and mental power. Although it still had the strength for a fight, it no longer possessed the certainty of victory.
Yet as long as it was given a little time, it could grind these annoying low-level creatures to death like crushing bugs.
Lin Ye chased after the short figure ahead like a madman, slashing wildly. Although each strike was bounced away by an invisible force, not only did he not stop, but he slashed faster and faster.
By the time he had fiercely slashed a dozen or so times, Lin Ye was already close to exhaustion. Now he was completely relying on willpower and the resilience of life to force himself to keep going, yet he couldn't last for even a few more seconds.
Ultimately, Lin Ye was only an ordinary human. No matter how he looked at it, he was no match for a monster in a battle of attrition.
Red-haired Caroline also seemed to see that Lin Ye was at the end of his rope, and couldn't help revealing a smug smile.
Bang, bang, bang!
Bang, bang, bang!
Gunshots rang out. Hans and Neil appeared on Lin Ye's flanks. They lacked the courage to fight the monster head-on, but they wouldn't give up a chance to survive. Their magazines were used up, but there were still bullets in their guns.
Taking advantage of the moment Red-haired Caroline was blocking the bullets, Lin Ye withdrew his saber and stood his ground. He took a long, deep breath, and then exerted all his strength to strike his final blow.
"Go to hell!"
The blade was slowed by invisible energy, but as if hearing Lin Ye's roar, a scorching wave of energy erupted from the hilt and burst forth from the cutting edge, directly neutralizing the energy barrier in front of Red-haired Caroline.
With a clean and decisive slash, Lin Ye chopped off Red-haired Caroline's head.
"The hell, it's voice-activated?! Why the hell didn't you tell me, ahhhhh!"
This was the first time Lin Ye got angry during a simulation. He really wanted to finish off that abnormal-brained captain, but unfortunately he couldn't win against him. Who tells someone to test an experimental weapon without explaining how to use it?
Lin Ye hurled his long saber, pinning it into Red-haired Caroline's heart, and quickly drew his dual pistols again, thoroughly blasting its head to pieces.
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!
He had only used up his magazine; there were still several bullets left in reserve inside the handguns.
Having finished this, Lin Ye stepped forward again to pull out his long saber, completely hacking Red-haired Caroline's body to pieces. Having managed to win so with great difficulty, he certainly didn't want to die from a lack of double-tapping the corpse.
"How is it? Is it dead?"
Having finished mutilating the corpse, Lin Ye returned to Dr. Caroline's side and asked.
"I'm not certain. If its main body was eliminated by the captain and it didn't split off other individuals, then it should be dead."
Although she could understand Lin Ye's strategy, Dr. Caroline still felt a trace of dread toward this man who had shot at her without the slightest hesitation.
"That means it's not dead."
Lin Ye didn't think the opponent had zero backup plans, but as long as it didn't come out to affect his mission, he wouldn't go cutting weeds and digging up roots-that was the organization's job.
Besides, with such a massive research facility, he had no way to eradicate the root cause either.
Not long after, the captain brought several supervisory personnel to find them. The captain carefully examined the corpse chopped into pieces by Lin Ye, truly unable to make out anything before having the supervisory personnel collect the remains.
"You guys did very well, better than I imagined. You truly live up to being elite Class-D Personnel. Now you can head back and look forward to the next mission."
The captain looked happily at Lin Ye again:
"How is the experimental weapon? Is it easy to use?"
"You should have told me it was voice-activated. I rarely talk when I'm cutting people down. If not for good luck, we would all have died here this time."
Lin Ye was still furious, otherwise he wouldn't have said these things.
"Voice-activated? What are you talking about? Is the experimental weapon voice-activated?"
The captain looked toward the supervisory personnel at the side.
"Uh, we were just testing how to stimulate the power of this weapon. So it's voice-activated."
A supervisory personnel took out a small handheld computer, recorded the new intelligence, and even said to Lin Ye:
"Thank you for your contribution to the organization."
I shouldn't have said anything if I'd known.
Lin Ye walked at the very front with an expressionless face.
[Simulation ended]
[Remaining simulation counts: 10]
[Simulation counts not consumed. Do you wish to acquire the core items?]
"Acquire."
[Obtained core item: Human Evolution Map *1]
[Obtained Dr. Caroline's Gift *1]
[Obtained title: All or Nothing]
Lin Ye sat on the edge of the bed, looking blankly at the information inside the laptop.
This was his first time completing a simulation without consuming simulation counts. He hadn't expected that consuming 10 simulation counts would actually allow him to acquire the core item.
[Human Evolution Map]
[The organization's latest research achievement, with the goal of controlling biological evolution, but it appears to be unfinished]
[Remarks: Can be exchanged for No. 0 Mutation Cards]
The Human Evolution Map was a laptop filled with information. Lin Ye opened the computer and looked at it for a long time, yet failed to understand what was written inside. It was filled with various terminology and symbols that he neither understood nor had annotations for.
