| Name | Psionic Energy |
| Original Name | 灵能 |
| Type | Energy used for bodily strengthening, mutation, rune techniques, and equipment operation 21 26 31. |
| Associated System | Evolution pathways, Psionic Energy Circulation, and runes 28 31 32. |
| First Appearance | Described in the Red Blade and Psychic Ring item entries 16. |
Power Progression
The following milestones track Lin Ye’s mastery of Psionic Energy, rather than ranks of the energy itself.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Assisted absorption | 23 | Uses the Psychic Ring to absorb environmental energy; the Cross Necklace lets him clearly perceive it entering and strengthening his body. |
| Internal energy control | 25 | Directs energy into fatigued areas and reinforces the points where he exerts force, making his movements faster and more fluid. |
| Large-scale cutting attack | 26 | Releases an invisible blade that draws surrounding energy into a supermarket-wide destructive wave. The attack exhausts his energy and stamina. |
| Personalized evolution pathway | 28 | Receives a complex, system-derived route that allows absorbed energy to strengthen his body through circulation. |
| Basic circulation in another body | 30 | Cannot use his personal pathway in Jason’s body, but successfully strengthens it with his simplified route. |
| Protection Rune instruction | 31 | Xiao Ye teaches him the rune principles underlying Psionic Energy Protection. |
| First full training circulation | 32 | Completes his first circulation along his personal pathway in the Red Maze, taking half an hour with the Psychic Ring. |
| Layered protection | 33 | Stops psionically enhanced bullets with one protective layer while maintaining a second and preparing a third. His opponent confirms that he has not yet reached Tier 1. |
| Rune inscription | 38 | Creates more than a dozen single-use protective items by inscribing runes on suitable fabric. |
| Combined techniques and building defenses | 40 | Combines protection with cutting blades and inscribes runes throughout the City Theater to kill intruders without direct intervention. |
| Protection through a strengthened ordinary body | 44 | After two basic circulations in Zed’s body, can barely produce a thin protective layer with advance preparation. |
| Improved efficiency and item durability | 48 | Completes two Game Room circulations in roughly ninety minutes and crafts protective items and cutting blades that last three uses each. |
Properties
- Strengthening and destruction: Psionic Energy can reinforce living tissue or tear it apart; its effects change according to how it is used 26.
- Mutation: Exposure causes living things to mutate. Lin Ye recognizes that prolonged exposure is not necessarily beneficial and that excessive circulation could mutate his body 21 28.
- Physical reinforcement in creatures: Energy within the Sheep-Headed Monster helps trap insufficiently mutated bullets in its muscle tissue. Its Mutation Organ churns energy in preparation for attacks 23.
- Separate from mental strength: Rune techniques use mental power as the guide and Psionic Energy as their foundation. Energy alone does not provide the necessary control 31.
- Dependent on the body: Successful rune use requires cooperation between the mind, energy, and physical body. Lin Ye initially cannot reproduce his protection technique through the ordinary body of Zed despite retaining his knowledge and mental strength 44.
Sources and Availability
| Source or location | Documented properties |
|---|---|
| Shelter | Contains no ambient Psionic Energy. Lin Ye suspects this is related to its “absolute safety” attribute, but does not establish the cause 21. |
| Red Maze | Has an extremely high concentration, allowing Lin Ye to train along his personal evolution pathway 32. |
| Game Room | Has an average concentration. Lin Ye uses ordinary card games as opportunities to perform circulation 38 48. |
| Feast of Revelry city | Has a concentration far exceeding the Red Maze’s; its energy is also exceptionally easy for Lin Ye to control 40. |
| Simulated world | Energy exists in the air, with concentrations varying by location. The cruise ship has a particularly high concentration 44. |
| Nutrient Solution | Contains small amounts. A survivor reports that one bottle supplies roughly half a circulation for a beginner, but Lin Ye finds it inadequate for sustained training 32 33. |
| Tier 1 Psionic Crystals | Supply equipment with Psionic Energy 21. |
| Impure crystals | The energy in the crystals Lin Ye uses for crafting cannot be absorbed, but remains suitable for tracing runes 38. |
Crystal Production
- The Tier 1 Psionic Energy Crystal Maker Blueprint requires ten Tier 1 Mutation Organs 16.
- Once completed, the maker is installed in the Shelter wall as a square metal box 42.
- It automatically produces two Tier 1 Psionic Energy Crystals per day, without consuming raw materials 42.
Circulation and Evolution
Personalized Evolution Pathways
- Collecting Mutation Cards Nos. 1–10 allows the system to derive a survivor-specific evolution pathway 29.
- When Lin Ye receives his pathway, his internal energy automatically follows the complex route for one cycle before he regains control 28.
- Subsequent training requires absorbing more energy and circulating it along the route. Although his body can follow the pathway automatically, he still needs to concentrate inward during practice 28 32.
- Personal pathways are not interchangeable between bodies: Lin Ye cannot run his own through Jason’s body 30.
Simplified Circulation
- Lin Ye reduces his pathway to a diagram passing through the major organs, making it usable as a basic reference rather than reproducing his entire personalized route 28.
- He uses this simplified route in simulated bodies and distributes it to other survivors 29 30 49.
- A survivor reports that using Mutation Cards enables perception of Psionic Energy flow, providing a way to begin training without Lin Ye’s equipment 32.
- Strengthening also requires nutrition. After becoming unusually hungry during circulation, Lin Ye concludes that Nutrient Solution is more useful as bodily support than as an energy source 34.
Training Limits
- Lin Ye initially limits himself to two circulations per day, intending to increase the number gradually 32.
- The Psychic Ring reduces his circulation time from approximately forty minutes to thirty at that stage of training 35.
- Circulation becomes faster as his mental power and familiarity improve 48.
- Continuous circulation is unsafe: Lin Ye explicitly rejects keeping his pathway running indefinitely because it would cause mutation 28.
Rune Applications
Cutting
- The supermarket attack is later identified by Xiao Ye as an outward manifestation of the Cutting Rune 31.
- Cutting can take the form of invisible blades projected from the Red Blade or generated as part of a defensive structure 26 40.
- A cutting-infused blade penetrates a Tier 1 opponent’s protective robe and wounds his chest 33.
- Lin Ye’s first large-scale attack controls the energy blade for only an instant; the resulting wave continues through momentum and drawn-in environmental energy 26.
Protection
- Psionic Energy Protection is a rune application, not simply a mass of energy. The Tier 1 girl’s barrier combines dense energy with a power resembling Lin Ye’s condensed perception 27 31.
- Protection can form full-body coverage, separate barriers, or multiple defensive layers 27 33 41.
- Barriers can be angled to deflect a weapon rather than meet its force directly 40.
- Protection is not absolute: condensed perception shatters the girl’s barrier, while cutting techniques penetrate other protective equipment 27 33.
Inscription and Psionic Structures
- Runes require suitable materials. The black ceremonial robe can bear inscriptions, while the transformed City Theater can support runes throughout its walls 38 40.
- Inscribing an object is a different skill from directly using a rune; Lin Ye’s first crafting attempts fail repeatedly 38.
- Inscribed Protection Runes can be activated by injected energy. His earliest successful inscriptions dissipate after one use 38.
- The theater combines numerous Protection Runes with cutting blades, allowing its defenses to attack intruders automatically 40 41.
Equipment and Crafted Items
| Item | Use of Psionic Energy |
|---|---|
| Psychic Ring | Rapidly absorbs surrounding energy to strengthen the wearer 16. |
| Red Blade | Accepts energy infusion to cut Tier 1 creatures’ flesh and channel projected cutting attacks 16 26. |
| CL0 Psionic Pistol | Uses extracted flesh and blood, absorbs environmental energy to mutate its ammunition, and contains a detachable Psionic Crystal component 21. |
| Ring Organization Psionic Energy Pistol | Fires bullets imbued with energy; its ammunition is described as more valuable than the gun 34. |
| Black Ceremonial Robe | Mass-produced entry-level equipment capable of basic protection; its fabric also serves as material for new rune inscriptions 34 38. |
| Simple Protective Item | Generates protection when activated with energy. Lin Ye improves its durability from one use to three 38 48. |
| Simple Bone Blade | Produces a cutting-attribute energy blade when infused; becomes ineffective after three uses 48. |
- Crafting materials: Creature body parts, salvaged psionic equipment, and processed Silkworm Parasites can serve as materials for psionic items 42 48.
- Survivor trade: Lin Ye offers ten three-use protective items and ten Simple Bone Blades at 10 Red Coins each 48.
- Reported effectiveness: A recipient credits one of Lin Ye’s prototype protective items with leaving him unharmed after a grenade was thrown into his hiding place 43.
