Bieshu Feifan's feat of killing someone with a single spear thrust also frightened off the other five Sunagakure brats.
"Careful, that guy's strong."
Bieshu Feifan had actually earned the enemy's recognition. He glanced at the spear in his hand. Chakra apparently wasn't as useful as a long weapon.
In fact, by this point in the war, almost all the qualified Genin in every country had been used up.
If vast numbers of people hadn't been needed to deplete enemy Chunin and Jonin's chakra, they wouldn't have qualified to be ninja at all.
Because Konoha had more people and was stronger overall, cannon fodder like Bieshu Feifan actually counted as well educated compared to those from other ninja villages.
The enemy didn't seem as formidable as he had imagined.
Looking over at that Sunagakure Chunin, because fire countered wind, he actually couldn't overcome the exhausted Uchiha Kun for the moment.
Bieshu Feifan finally understood.
Sunagakure was in even worse shape than Konoha. A Chunin was actually fighting an exhausted Uchiha Genin on equal terms.
At that moment, Shimura Daio had already begun making tentative attacks against a somewhat timid Sunagakure Genin.
Bieshu Feifan thought for a moment, then immediately tossed his spear to Shimura Daio.
"Daio, my friend, use this. Stab them to death."
Shimura Daio caught Bieshu Feifan's spear. After a moment's hesitation, he charged forward, actually cutting through them unstoppably, spearing one Sunagakure kid with each thrust.
Bieshu Feifan could see it now. When everyone was cannon fodder, holding a kunai offered hardly any fighting power.
With their reactions, speed, and strength all below standard, a light, sharp kunai really wasn't as useful as a spear.
Although Shimura Daio was also cannon fodder and didn't have much chakra either.
He was already seventeen.
At that age, he was already an adult in the shinobi world.
Using a spear to stab brats who had little chakra and didn't even know the Three Basic Jutsu really meant hitting the mark with every thrust.
Bieshu Feifan also drew his kunai at this point and exchanged tentative attacks with a Sunagakure brat.
This was the standard way cannon fodder fought. Both were afraid of dying, scraping their daggers against each other, neither daring to extend a hand.
Things were much the same on Omori's side. Although his left hand was injured, that Sunagakure Genin didn't dare rush in and risk his life either.
Then, during this interval, the adult Shimura Daio showed his might, having already stabbed two people to death with Bieshu Feifan's spear.
The remaining Sunagakure brat got scared and turned to flee, only for Shimura Daio to catch up and kill him with a thrust.
The Sunagakure brat trading feints with Bieshu Feifan got scared too, quickly putting some distance between them before turning to flee.
Then the kunai Bieshu Feifan threw struck him in the back.
The last piece of Sunagakure cannon fodder, who was fighting Omori, saw that everyone else was dead and immediately turned to run as well.
Copying Bieshu Feifan, Omori aimed his kunai at his opponent.
Omori took a deep breath and threw it.
Thunk!
The kunai stuck in a tree trunk.
Seeing this, Bieshu Feifan, who had already rushed over to finish off his opponent, threw the kunai he had retrieved, planting it squarely in the fleeing Sunagakure brat's neck.
Clutching his neck, the Sunagakure brat still tried to run, only to be stabbed to death by Shimura Daio as he caught up.
With a dark expression, Omori silently retrieved his kunai. His gaze toward Bieshu Feifan held a little surprise and some displeasure.
Although Bieshu Feifan's grades were poor, that was only because he wasn't good at ninjutsu. He hadn't neglected his regular training.
With decades of pig-slaughtering experience from his previous life, throwing darts wasn't a problem.
It was just that back at school, the kunai he used had been scavenged, and his accuracy had been poor.
But when Bieshu Feifan practiced privately with stones, he could still reach an average standard.
"Feifan, my friend, we really owe you this time."
Shimura Daio offered his heartfelt praise, then returned the spear to Bieshu Feifan.
"Daio, you were the main force. Without your strength, we probably couldn't have taken down those Sand Ninja."
"Hahahaha! You're being modest, Feifan. We all contributed. Everything for Konoha."
Chatting and laughing, the two gradually moved away from Uchiha Kun.
Omori's expression darkened. Although Bieshu Feifan and Shimura Daio were his teammates.
Still, the backer he had the most faith in remained Uchiha Kun.
"Aren't you going over to help the captain?"
Hearing Omori call out, Bieshu Feifan and Shimura Daio turned around at the same time and looked at him as though he were an idiot.
"Omori, take a good look over at Uchiha Kun. Is that the kind of fight we can get involved in?"
Shimura Daio pointed toward Uchiha Kun irritably.
At that moment, Uchiha Kun and the Sunagakure Chunin were locked in a fierce fight.
Both moved so fast that the naked eye couldn't make them out clearly, marking them as standard veteran Genin.
What help could cannon fodder like Bieshu Feifan and the others offer?
In a ninja battle at this level, a spear offered no advantage in reach.
The only one who might have been able to help was Shimura Daio. After all, his strength was fairly decent; at the very least, he was very strong physically.
But he was a Shimura.
It was already out of consideration for Konoha that he wasn't helping the Sunagakure Chunin fight Uchiha Kun.
"Then we should at least call for help."
Omori still wanted to help Uchiha Kun, the strongest member of their squad.
"Exactly. Aren't we going to find our comrades for help right now?"
Shimura Daio continued walking away from the battle as he answered Omori casually.
"But if we're calling for help, we should fire a signal flare."
Omori still tried to argue.
"Captain Kun should have those signal flares. But Captain Kun has his Uchiha Clan pride and won't ask for support, so we have no choice but to find someone to help in person."
Bieshu Feifan answered Omori's question without looking back, then disappeared into the forest.
Standing in the pattering rain, Omori looked at his vanished teammates and at Uchiha Kun, who was locked in a bitter fight, caught in a dilemma for a moment.
If he went to help Uchiha Kun, there really wasn't much he could do.
If he went looking for his teammates, he felt Bieshu Feifan and Shimura Daio were very unreliable.
Just as Omori wavered, the distant battle came to an abrupt halt.
With a thud, someone fell to the ground.
Omori went over to look. It was the Sand Ninja. Uchiha Kun had slit his throat.
Uchiha Kun also lay down on the ground, drool streaming from his mouth, his eyes wide and his chest heaving violently.
He was still alive, just nearly dead from exhaustion.
But right then, something unexpected happened. Two people rushed out of the woods.
"Captain Kun, we're here to help!"
It was Bieshu Feifan and Shimura Daio. Each carried a very long spear with a kunai lashed to its tip as they charged out in a frantic rush.
Then they stabbed wildly at the already dead Sunagakure Chunin.
As he stabbed, Shimura Daio cursed, "Calling us pheasants, huh? Your whole Land of Wind is full of pheasants!"
Then the two immediately began looting the corpse. Not only did they strip off the Sunagakure Chunin's vest, they also took all his kunai, Soldier Pills, shuriken, and everything else.
Neither paid any attention to Uchiha Kun, who lay on the ground with wide eyes, staring fixedly as they stole his spoils.
Omori also watched, dumbfounded.
Only after the two finished gathering the loot did Bieshu Feifan let out a strange cry:
"Captain Kun, don't be afraid! We're here to save you. Don't worry, we've killed all the Sand Ninja. You can close your eyes and rest now."
Seeing Uchiha Kun remain motionless with his eyes wide, doing nothing but gasping for breath.
Shimura Daio also walked over.
"You haven't disgraced the honor of the Uchiha. You can rest in peace."
Omori walked over then and shouted:
"The captain isn't dead yet!"
Shimura Daio and Bieshu Feifan both wished Uchiha Kun would hurry up and die.
With his fantasy shattered by Omori, Shimura Daio's face immediately returned to its numb expression, even more numb than before.
Bieshu Feifan looked disappointed too.
Unlike Shimura Daio, who hated the Uchiha Clan simply because of other people's influence, Bieshu Feifan didn't particularly dislike Uchiha Kun. He just had his eye on his Sharingan.
In Konoha,
Although the Uchiha enforced the law very strictly, bullied those below them while fearing those above them, loved finding fault, loved mocking others, and liked meddling in everything, the key point was that they couldn't even manage it properly.
Hmm?
Thinking about it this way, Bieshu Feifan felt the Uchiha really were quite annoying.
Uchiha Kun hadn't died. With Omori carrying him on his back, the four began heading toward camp.
After this battle, none of the four had the strength to fight again, especially Uchiha Kun.
Yet just as the four left the battlefield, they suddenly encountered routed Konoha Ninja.
A Konoha Genin who had broken down shouted:
"The Stone Ninja are here! Run!"
