Background

Tang San is a transmigrator who retains the Tang Sect’s martial arts and hidden-weapon expertise. He is the son of Tang Hao, an outcast of the Clear Sky Sect, and Ah Yin, a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Grass soul beast who took human form. His two Martial Souls are Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer 23 91 103 143 144.

Before attending Shrek Academy, he spends six years alongside Xiao Wu at Nuoding City’s Junior Soul Master Academy. He also works as a blacksmith in Nuoding City, gradually gathering the materials needed to manufacture his hidden weapons 37 100.

His innate full soul power makes him a potential threat in Qian Daoliu’s eyes. Rather than immediately killing him, Qian Daoliu assigns Lu Qian to monitor and hinder his development, citing an earlier agreement not to exterminate the Clear Sky Sect 1.

Personality

Tang San ordinarily values composure and restraint. After the Rose Hotel confrontation, he stops Xiao Wu from prolonging the dispute. He also credits Yu Xiaogang when Oscar praises his knowledge of Martial Souls 24 51.

His loyalty to Yu Xiaogang repeatedly brings him into conflict with Lu Qian. He openly protests when Lu Qian belittles his teacher and prioritizes catching Yu Xiaogang when the latter is dropped from a dangerous height, leaving himself vulnerable to capture 68 73.

Competition with Lu Qian increasingly exposes his pride and insecurity. He wants to surpass Lu Qian in any respect, becomes furious when the hidden-weapon ban widens their power gap, and is particularly susceptible to provocations involving Xiao Wu 91 99 100. Nevertheless, his battlefield awareness remains strong: his coordination with Dai Mubai develops instinctively despite their strained relationship 87 89.

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer, giving him access to both battlefield control and direct offensive power 103.

  • Blue Silver Grass is his publicly used Martial Soul throughout much of his time at Shrek Academy 29 91.
  • Clear Sky Hammer must initially remain concealed to protect his identity and connection to the Clear Sky Sect 103.
  • His potential to combine a second Martial Soul with precise control attracts Ning Fengzhi’s interest. Heart Separation Control is suggested as a way to strengthen his battlefield management, but its mastery is not established 148.

Blue Silver Grass

Tang San uses vines to restrain enemies, support coordinated attacks, and create openings for his companions 30 52.

Soul Skill Position Documented use
Entanglement First Sends Blue Silver Grass to bind opponents; used against Dai Mubai, Zhao Wuji, and the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent 23 30 52.
Parasitism Second Listed among his four Soul Ancestor skills 146.
Spider Web Restraint Third Listed among his four Soul Ancestor skills 146.
Blue Silver Cage Fourth Used with Entanglement and Blue Silver Overlord Spear against Lu Qian 146 185.
Blue Silver Overlord Spear Fifth An offensive skill shattered by Lu Qian’s Seven Kill Divine Sword 185.
  • His grass carries a paralytic poison, though Ma Hongjun’s Phoenix flames greatly weaken its effect 73.
  • Powerful opponents can overwhelm its durability: Zhao Wuji destroys his vines, while Tai Nuo breaks through them with little difficulty 30 131.
  • Lu Qian’s higher-grade Blue Silver Martial Soul creates an additional disadvantage. During their final confrontation, Tang San’s vines initially show signs of retreating before he forces them to attack 185.

Clear Sky Hammer

The Clear Sky Hammer is identified as the continent’s foremost Power Attack System Martial Soul. Tang San resolves to reveal it privately during Tai Tan’s strength contest, leading to the Strength Clan’s recognition of his lineage 103 131 132.

  • Clear Sky Barrier — Fifth Soul Skill: Produces a pitch-black protective dome when Lu Qian attacks his head 185.
  • Great Sumeru Hammer — Ring Detonation: By the Slaughter City battle, he has learned the technique’s Ring Detonation art. The passage does not establish a successful escape through its use 186.

Tang Sect Martial Arts

Tang San’s retained Tang Sect techniques give him an advantage in combat that does not rely on Soul Power. At the Rose Hotel, Dai Mubai initially cannot match him without activating his own Soul Power 23.

  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: Footwork used to evade Dai Mubai and Tai Nuo, and to close the distance against Lu Qian 23 100 131.
  • Close-quarters combat: Attempts to exploit Lu Qian’s presumed weakness at short range with a rapid approach and knife-hand strike 100.
  • Combat awareness: Coordinates attacks with Xiao Wu after six years together and instinctively complements Dai Mubai’s offensive movements 30 89.

Hidden Weapons, Poison & Forging

Tang San is a skilled hidden-weapon practitioner and craftsman. Meng Yiran’s decision to use hidden weapons against him makes her defeat easier, after which he teaches her basic handling and throwing techniques 54.

  • Manufactures intricate weapons from materials accumulated through his blacksmithing work 37.
  • Uses poisoned weapons to threaten opponents beyond the effective reach of his Blue Silver Grass 131.
  • Sets extensive poisoned traps around his position in Slaughter City 185.
  • Supplies Shrek’s members with self-defense weapons and teaches them their operation before the journey to Heaven Dou City 115.
  • Is heavily restricted by Spirit Hall’s ban on poison and hidden weapons in official Soul Fighting matches; the prohibition does not extend to wilderness encounters 91 92.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Back-Mounted Flower Crossbow — Its ammunition requires substantial effort and time to manufacture 37.
  • Hidden Shadow — Fires poisoned needles painstakingly prepared by Tang San 37.
  • Dragon Whisker Needles — Made from the hair crystal Lu Qian gives him. Described as his strongest hidden weapons at that point and sufficiently inconspicuous to potentially evade enforcement of the arena ban 110.
  • Godly Zhuge Crossbows — Lu Qian pressures him into supplying five hundred sets at his own material cost. He delivers fifty after two months and promises the remaining four hundred and fifty within a year 115.
  • Slaughter City Communicator — Allows him to report Lu Qian’s unauthorized Soul Power use directly to the King of Slaughter 185.
  • Signal device — Ignited during the same confrontation to expose their location and seek intervention 185.
  • Eight Spider Lances — never obtained — Lu Qian’s interference prevents him from acquiring this External Soul Bone 91 127.

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father and protector. His strength repeatedly deters Lu Qian from killing Tang San; he later tries to protect Xiao Wu at his son’s request and seeks vengeance after Tang San’s death 142 161 199.
  • Ah Yin — Mother, a transformed hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Grass soul beast. Her sacrifice is central to Tang Hao’s history 143 144.
  • Tang Yuehua — Paternal aunt. Intervenes when Lu Qian intercepts Tang San and insists that neither her nephew nor Tang Hao be killed 164.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and trusted adviser. Guides his cultivation and third-ring choices; Tang San repeatedly defends him against Lu Qian 29 61 68.
  • Xiao Wu — Childhood companion and girlfriend. Their six-year bond produces strong combat coordination, but Lu Qian’s interference, Tang San’s jealousy, and repeated arguments undermine the relationship. In Slaughter City, Tang San claims to have given up on her 30 100 129 185.
  • Lu Qian — Fellow transmigrator, academy teammate, and eventual killer. Secretly targets his cultivation, equipment, opportunities, and relationship with Xiao Wu before moving to direct assassination 1 92 115 163 185 199.
  • Dai Mubai — Teammate with whom he has a strained relationship. Their early clash ends badly for Tang San, but they later demonstrate effective coordination against Lu Qian 23 87 89.
  • Meng Yiran — Defeated opponent and temporary hidden-weapon pupil. Her interest in him leads Meng Shu to offer him a place in the Meng family, which he politely refuses 54 64.
  • Tai Tan and the Strength Clan — Recognize his connection to Tang Hao and pledge their support. The clan is exterminated almost immediately afterward 132.
  • Oscar — Teammate who admires his Martial Soul knowledge and calls him an encyclopedia of the subject 51.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Rose Hotel and Shrek Admission

Tang San arrives in Suotuo City with Xiao Wu and clashes with Dai Mubai at the Rose Hotel. Although initially superior without Soul Power, he struggles once Dai Mubai begins an aggressive, fully empowered assault. Dai Mubai tears open his arm, prompting Xiao Wu to intervene; Lu Qian’s arrival ultimately ends the confrontation 23 24.

During Shrek’s practical entrance assessment, Tang San fights alongside Xiao Wu, Lu Qian, and Ning Rongrong against Zhao Wuji. Their opening combination fails to overcome Zhao Wuji’s defenses, and Tang San is eventually struck down after Zhao Wuji activates Gravity Crush 28 29 30 32. Afterward, Lu Qian claims to have thrown his scattered hidden weapons off a cliff under Zhao Wuji’s instructions, forcing Tang San to go looking for them 37.

Soul-Ring Hunt and Conflict over Yu Xiaogang

During Oscar’s ring hunt, Tang San identifies the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent’s suitability, helps restrain it, and defeats Meng Yiran. His subsequent hidden-weapon lesson attracts her interest and provokes Xiao Wu’s jealousy 51 52 54.

After advancing to Soul Elder, he becomes embroiled in Lu Qian’s attacks on Yu Xiaogang’s teaching. A demonstration of his grass’s poison against Ma Hongjun proves unimpressive, and his attempt to rescue Yu Xiaogang ends with both master and disciple bound by Lu Qian 68 73 74.

Arena Restrictions and Forced Manufacturing

Spirit Hall’s ban on hidden weapons and poison removes much of Tang San’s competitive toolkit. He struggles to suppress his habitual weapon use, loses a close arena match, and becomes increasingly frustrated by the gap between himself and Lu Qian 91 92.

Against the Imperial Fighting Team, he protects Xiao Wu from Yu Tianheng’s attack but is badly shocked himself and must be pulled back by Lu Qian 105. Later, Lu Qian exploits an owed favor to demand five hundred Godly Zhuge Crossbows, draining Tang San’s money and cultivation time 115.

Disappearance and the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

Tang San disappears from Shrek Academy, prompting an unsuccessful search by Xiao Wu, Yu Xiaogang, and others. On returning, he has physically recovered but remains distressed by his experience at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well: he reached the site at great risk only to find its immortal herbs already ruined or removed 126 129.

He suspects a connection between Lu Qian’s herbs and his own kidnapping, but he and Yu Xiaogang dismiss Lu Qian’s involvement. Lu Qian then redirects his suspicions toward Dugu Yan’s connection with Dugu Bo 129.

The Strength Clan’s Brief Allegiance

Tang San defeats Tai Long and then the much stronger Tai Nuo. When Tai Tan intervenes, Tang San agrees to a private strength contest and resolves to use the Clear Sky Hammer 129 130 131.

Tai Tan subsequently recognizes his lineage, and Tang San gains the Strength Clan’s support. His apparent reversal of fortune lasts less than half an hour: the clan compound is attacked and its inhabitants exterminated. Tang San returns with Lu Qian to investigate but remains hidden until Shrek’s teachers arrive 132.

Continental Tournament

By the tournament period, Tang San has reached Level 41 with a black fourth ring. Lu Qian secretly asks Huyan Zhen to have the Elephant Armor team kill him, leading all seven opponents to concentrate on Tang San in their opening attack. He narrowly avoids immediate elimination, while the attackers suffer substantial injuries themselves 146 148 150.

Meanwhile, Tang San continues trusting Xiao Wu despite earlier suspicions about her relationship with Lu Qian. When Spirit Hall moves to take her away, he learns of her transformed soul-beast identity and accuses Lu Qian of exposing it. He later entrusts Tang Hao with protecting her 156 160 161.

Assassination Attempts and Slaughter City

After Tang Hao retreats to the Clear Sky Sect, Lu Qian rushes back to kill Tang San before the sect can secure him. He intercepts Tang San’s carriage, but Tang Yuehua intervenes to protect her nephew 163 164.

In Slaughter City, Tang San joins the Law Enforcement Team specifically to retain access to Soul Power and gain an advantage over Lu Qian. He prepares poisoned traps, but his plan collapses when Lu Qian demonstrates that he can also use Soul Power. Tang San reports him to the King of Slaughter, signals their location, and raises Clear Sky Barrier against an incoming sword strike 185.

Lu Qian follows with Wuhua. Tang San has reached Soul Emperor and learned Ring Detonation, but the passage ends with a powerful evil aura approaching rather than showing the immediate outcome. His death is confirmed later, when Tang Hao confronts Lu Qian for killing his son 186 199.
