The Demon Phoenix froze for a moment, then hurriedly followed him down into the dry well.
The bottom lay about a hundred feet below ground, much deeper than an ordinary well. Most wells would have water at thirty or forty feet, yet this one remained dry. There was something strange about it.
The Masked Old Man said nothing when he saw the Demon Phoenix follow him down, tacitly allowing it.
But the Demon Phoenix was very curious. What exactly had the Masked Old Man come down here to do?
Treasure? A hidden chamber? A thought flashed through the Demon Phoenix's mind.
The Demon Phoenix turned its gaze toward the Masked Old Man and saw him extend his right hand, pressing it against the well wall about five feet above the bottom.
The wall was very smooth, but the Demon Phoenix could see that it looked somewhat damp.
Even though the well was dry, without any sign of water, there was still some moisture down in its dark depths.
A faint click rang out. The sound was very soft, but the Demon Phoenix heard it clearly.
The instant it heard that sound, the Demon Phoenix's little beak fell wide open.
Before its eyes, the section of wall the Masked Old Man had pressed actually began to part to either side.
Before long, a stone doorway appeared in the well wall. It was very narrow, barely wide enough for one person to enter.
The Masked Old Man turned sideways and squeezed through the stone doorway, and the Demon Phoenix hurried after him.
After they entered, the stone door slowly closed, and everything returned to its original state.
"What is this place?" Upon entering the doorway, the Demon Phoenix saw an enormous stone chamber, several thousand feet across and over a hundred feet
