Background / History

Ancient World and the Ancient War

Kui Yong founded the Wild Ox Sect in the Demon Domain and served as a Demon General under the Demon God. His techniques included Wild Ox Strength, which later became the foundation of his Supreme Demonic Art 3062 3065 3067.

During the Ancient War, he fought powerful Righteous Path opponents and eventually came under a combined assault. In the retreat, he and the Wood Demon General became separated from their companions. Kui Yong volunteered to cover their withdrawal when they encountered further enemies, allowing the Wood Demon General to escape. The latter believed Kui Yong had sacrificed his life for him 2501 2502 3489.

Kui Yong instead survived in the Martial World, grievously injured and suffering memory loss. His original body remained hidden in slumber while he operated through a possessed human body. Returning fragments of memory gradually restored his martial knowledge and strength 2497 2879 2887.

Founding the Demon Hall

During his recovery, a Zhu Family elder nearly killed him. Having remembered that he had once been a powerful expert, Kui Yong regarded this as an intolerable humiliation. His resentment extended to the closely connected Fan and Wang families. After the Three Great Families established the Heavenly Evil Sect, he founded the Demon Hall in direct opposition 2499 2500.

His recovered memories contained enough cultivation methods to sustain an entire sect. Demon Hall disciples advanced rapidly, and the organization became capable of contending with—and at times slightly surpassing—the Heavenly Evil Sect. Outsiders could not explain this growth because Kui Yong appeared to have neither a master nor an established martial lineage 2500.

Zuo Qiu Yi’s rise restrained Kui Yong’s ambitions. Even after becoming virtually unrivaled through the Imperishability Chapter, Kui Yong feared Zuo Qiu Yi’s return. That concern helped motivate his alliance with Xuanyuan Jade Butterfly and the preferential agreements between the Demon Hall and Imperial Remnant Manor. The two also invaded the Divine Beast Holy Land together 2422 2500 2779.

The Thousand-Year Scheme

Kui Yong used the Demon Hall’s thousand-year cycles to harvest Jianghu experts over ten thousand years. Successive Hall Masters received enormous increases in internal power but were placed under his control through the Demon Refining Formula. He later stated that the Thousand-Year Period had existed to support his recovery 2548 2601 2922.

Huo Lian escaped this control and delayed his plans by a thousand years. Huang Xiao subsequently absorbed so much of Kui Yong’s essence blood that Kui Yong claimed to have lost nearly half the benefit of his ten-thousand-year effort 2548 2601.

Appearance

Kui Yong’s familiar human appearance concealed a much older divine beast. In memories of his rise, he initially resembled a man in his forties and later an elderly man with half-white hair 2500.

  • Disguise: Could alter his facial features and complexion to resemble an ordinary old man, while concealing his aura well enough to initially fool longstanding acquaintances 2751 2778 2783.
  • True form: An enormous gray-furred, ox-shaped divine beast, over thirty feet long and over ten feet tall, with only one natural leg 2936.
  • Concealed horns: Appeared hornless because his horns normally remained inside his skull; he could expose and lengthen them 2967 2970.
  • Manifested limbs: Created two forelimbs and another hind limb to give himself a four-legged appearance. These were not genuine limbs 2936 2965.
  • Battle transformation: His eyes became scarlet as he approached the revelation of his true form 2936.

Personality

Kui Yong was proud, vindictive, and intensely sensitive to humiliation. A near-fatal encounter with one Zhu Family elder became a grudge against three entire families. Huo Lian and Huang Xiao’s successful resistance enraged him because juniors had undermined plans he considered beyond their ability to challenge 2499 2601 2783.

He enjoyed frightening and tormenting weaker opponents, repeatedly inviting them to reveal their strongest methods before killing them. His followers were expendable: after revealing his true form, he threatened to kill his own subordinates if they failed to finish their opponents 2786 2911 2936.

His arrogance coexisted with considerable caution. He hid from Zuo Qiu Yi, concealed his original body, and preferred to wear down Huo Lian’s temporary power rather than fight it directly. He was also deeply ashamed of his one-legged appearance and reacted furiously when Huang Xiao mocked it 2797 2887 2965 3429.

Despite his former standing in the Ancient World, Kui Yong preferred ruling the Martial World without superiors. He believed further advancement would be difficult and valued unrestricted authority over returning to a place where stronger figures could constrain him 2910.

Abilities & Skills

Imperishability Chapter

Kui Yong’s greatest source of enhanced combat power and bodily resilience 2421 2966.

  • Allowed him to overwhelm opponents who had previously been near his level, including the Three Great Families’ combined forces 2421 2785.
  • Strengthened his flesh enough that many wounds inflicted by Huang Xiao were not fatal 2966.
  • Inflicted severe backlash when pushed beyond safe limits; his injuries had not fully healed even during the final battle 2635 2947.
  • Was deliberately left for him by Zuo Qiu Yi as a means of keeping him in check 3429.
  • Required the complementary Longevity Chapter to address its destructive aftereffects properly. Longevity Pills could also let him unleash power he otherwise could not safely sustain 2635 2808.

Supreme Demonic Art and Saber Technique

Kui Yong developed the Supreme Demonic Art from Wild Ox Strength and other cultivation methods, and created the Supreme Demon Saber Technique 2795 3067.

  • Used Indestructible Supreme Demonic Qi to give his saber attacks greater power 2795 2877.
  • Executed the saber technique at a level far beyond Huang Xiao’s understanding, leaving the latter unable to identify exploitable flaws 2939.
  • Controlled the Supreme Demon Saber through divine sense and true qi without holding it, allowing continued use in divine-beast form 2939.
  • Could unleash Saber Force that carved a scar extending several li across the ground 2942.

Demon Refining Formula and Empowerment

A self-devised method suited to Kui Yong’s cultivation and requirements 3155.

  • Enabled the tremendous power increases granted to new Demon Hall Masters 2601 2696.
  • Bound recipients to his control, turning their advancement into part of his long-term recovery scheme 2548 2601.
  • Was not inescapable: Huo Lian neutralized its influence, and taught Huang Xiao how to deceive Kui Yong and use the Blood Exhaustion Method to break free 2548 2751.

Divine Sense and Body Snatching

Kui Yong could attack consciousness directly and occupy other bodies 2601 2843 2887.

  • His divine-sense attacks bypassed the protection of Xuan Tu’s shell, threatening the soul rather than the body 2936.
  • Possessed a human vessel throughout his ten-thousand-year rise while his original body remained asleep 2879 2889.
  • Took over Pang Yi after Pang Yi’s divine sense collapsed, then returned to his original body’s resting place 2887.
  • Possessed overwhelming divine-sense strength but comparatively limited attack techniques; his methods were inferior to the Blood God Conversion Great Method 2945.
  • Was vulnerable to the Supreme Ghost Stele, which Huang Xiao used to grievously injure his divine sense 2972.

Divine-Beast Physiology

His original body possessed exceptional vitality, a powerful natural hoof, and unusually durable concealed horns 2965 2967 2969.

  • Natural hoof: Withstood repeated direct clashes with the Minghong Saber; considerably stronger than his manifested limbs 2965.
  • Reinforced skull: Claimed his horn-protected head was harder than Xuan Tu’s shell and had been praised by the Demon God 2967.
  • Extending horns: Could suddenly lengthen his horns to strike from beyond their apparent reach. He stated that longer horns meant greater strength 2970.
  • Essence-bearing horns: Losing one substantially weakened his aura; Huang Xiao refined the severed horn to strengthen the Minghong Saber 2971 2972.
  • Vulnerability under backlash: His remaining horn eventually extended and retracted uncontrollably, giving Huang Xiao an opening 2972.

Restoration and Formations

Kui Yong developed methods to support recovery and protect his hidden body 2635 2887.

  • Created a restorative cultivation method resembling the Longevity Chapter, but it could only alleviate—not eliminate—the Imperishability Chapter’s aftereffects 2635.
  • Accelerated wound healing dramatically during the final battle; Huang Xiao inferred that this stronger recovery required a forbidden method and an additional cost 2962.
  • Used Dragon Fang to establish a grand formation that diverted dragon-vein qi to heal his injuries 2928.
  • Severed a formation connection to prevent Huo Lian’s group from reaching his sleeping original body 2887.
  • Trapped divine weapons in a formation that cut their wielders’ connections to them 2951.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Supreme Demon Saber — A weapon bestowed by the Demon God and linked to Kui Yong’s mind. Its saber soul was destroyed by the opposing divine weapons during the final battle 2939 2951 3487.
  • Supreme Demon Core — Another treasure given to him by the Demon God; later obtained by Huang Xiao 2548 3487.
  • Supreme Demon Wall — Part of the Demon Hall’s inheritance. Kui Yong publicly claimed to have found it by chance in Mist Mountain 2879.
  • Dragon Fang — Used to arrange the formation that diverted dragon-vein qi for his recovery 2928.
  • Ice Crystal — Enclosed his possessed body during slumber; he shattered it when emerging ahead of schedule 2751.
  • Memory Images — Preserved fragmented recollections and past victories, partly to restore information he might forget. Huang Xiao studied them to uncover his origins and martial methods 2497 2503.

Relationships

  • Huang Xiao — Empowered successor turned principal enemy. Huang Xiao stole much of his essence-blood reserves, possessed the coveted Longevity Chapter, and ultimately killed him 2601 3487.
  • Huo Lian — Former Hall Master who escaped his control, delayed his scheme, and guided Huang Xiao’s resistance. Kui Yong blamed him for Huang Xiao’s betrayal 2548 2601 2795.
  • Zuo Qiu Yi / Immortal Alchemist — The opponent he most feared in the Martial World. Zuo Qiu Yi intended to kill him, but Kui Yong hid until the opportunity passed 2779 3429.
  • Xuanyuan Jade Butterfly — Former ally in the assault on the Divine Beast Holy Land; later joined the coalition against him 2500 2746.
  • Fan Zhuolang and the Three Great Families — Longstanding enemies whose rivalry with Kui Yong shaped the conflict between the Heavenly Evil Sect and Demon Hall. Kui Yong eventually killed Fan Zhuolang himself 2499 2500 2910.
  • Xuan Tu — Divine-beast opponent who investigated his identity, explained his weaknesses, and helped sustain Huang Xiao during the final battle 2635 2638 2964.
  • Pang Ji — Demon Hall power-seeker who ambushed his weakened vessel and stole its internal power, mistakenly believing he had killed Kui Yong completely 2843 2865 2903.
  • Pang Yi — Hall Master whose body Kui Yong occupied after his original human vessel was compromised 2843 2887.
  • Mo Pozheng and the Tomb Clan — Loyal servants who guarded his interests and revered him as the Ancestor 2778 2845 2871.
  • Demon God — Former superior who granted him the Supreme Demon Saber and Supreme Demon Core 3487.
  • Wood Demon General — Former comrade who credited Kui Yong with saving his life and later accepted Huang Xiao as Kui Yong’s successor without knowing the truth of his death 3487 3489.
  • Ma Tie’an — An old acquaintance associated with later hostility; his Ox-Slaughtering Sect directly challenged the identity of Kui Yong’s Wild Ox Sect 3297.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Huang Xiao’s Resistance

Huang Xiao’s access to Kui Yong’s Memory Images exposed the Demon Hall founder’s ancient origins. With Huo Lian’s guidance, he then turned the Hall Master empowerment process against Kui Yong. When Kui Yong demanded the Longevity Chapter and attacked his consciousness, Huang Xiao destroyed the attacking strand of divine sense 2497 2501 2548 2601.

Early Emergence and Retreat

Disturbances around the Soaring Immortal Land and news of Huang Xiao prompted Kui Yong to emerge early. He disguised himself, recruited Feng He, and searched for Huang Xiao before openly confronting the gathered experts. Although initially overwhelming, his possessed body carried hidden damage from its premature awakening. Huo Lian’s enhanced attacks aggravated those injuries and forced him to retreat 2751 2767 2778 2800 2839.

Loss of the Human Vessel

Pang Ji ambushed Kui Yong while much of his divine sense was inside Pang Yi. Kui Yong escaped by burning Pang Yi’s essence blood, leaving his former vessel available for Pang Ji to drain. Examination of a severed arm led Huang Xiao and Huo Lian to uncover the existence of a separate original body 2843 2845 2877.

Kui Yong returned to that hidden body and cut off a formation route that could have exposed it. His survival meant Pang Ji’s apparent victory had removed only a possessed shell 2887 2889 2903.

Final Battle and Death

Kui Yong returned in his original body, killed Fan Zhuolang, and sought both the Soaring Immortal Fruit and Huang Xiao’s Longevity Chapter. His determination to capture Huang Xiao alive repeatedly limited his killing blows, allowing Huang Xiao to shield allies and prolong the battle 2909 2910 2911 2950.

Huang Xiao’s escalating Heavenly Demon Disintegration, the allied divine weapons, and the strengthened Minghong Saber gradually forced Kui Yong into his true form and increasingly dangerous levels of power. The destruction of the Supreme Demon Saber’s soul, the loss of a horn, divine-sense injuries, and the Imperishability Chapter’s backlash progressively eroded his advantage 2936 2939 2951 2970 2971 2972.

At the final crisis, Kui Yong trapped the Minghong Saber in his skull and abandoned his pursuit of the Longevity Chapter in favor of killing Huang Xiao. Further divine-sense damage and bodily backlash weakened him again, allowing Huang Xiao to call upon the embedded saber. His death was subsequently confirmed by the survivors 2974 2980 3487.

Posthumous Inheritance

In the Ancient World, Kui Yong was believed to have died in the ancient great war, and the Wild Ox Sect had declined since his disappearance. Huang Xiao and Huo Lian adopted the identities of his successors, using their genuine knowledge of his methods to establish connections 3062 3065 3067.

His inheritance remained valuable enough to attract repeated attacks and extortion attempts. The Wood Demon General eventually accepted Huang Xiao’s account of inheriting Kui Yong’s revised methods in the Martial World, unaware that Huang Xiao had killed his former comrade 3173 3219 3240 3487.

Trivia

  • Kui Yong’s name largely vanished from Martial World records because major sects feared recording it. Even the Demon Hall apparently lacked a record of its founder’s personal name 2421.
  • His reconstructed memories reused his later human appearance for the Ancient War because he could no longer remember what he had looked like then 2501.
  • His claim that the Supreme Demonic Art came from the Supreme Demon Tome was questioned by Huo Lian, who identified it instead as a refinement of Wild Ox Strength 3067.
