A square cage crackled with lightning. Archdruid Caspian's hands and feet were each bound in iron chains that radiated an icy chill, freezing his body stiff and making even breathing difficult.
Han Shuo and Emily were both startled to see Caspian when they entered. They hurried over to him, and after a brief examination, Emily said gravely, "There are separate electric-element and water-element magical barriers here. This cage restricts his power. I'll need some time to undo them."
Han Shuo glanced at Caspian, whose hair and beard were nearly frozen over, and said, "My weapon is extremely sharp. I'm confident I can use it to smash the cage open."
Emily shook her head solemnly and reached out to stop Han Shuo, explaining, "These Electric Element and water-element Magic Barriers were very cleverly arranged. If you don't understand the technique and force the cage open with a sharp weapon, you could electrocute him or freeze him to death on the spot."
Necromancy differed from the other branches of magic, and Han Shuo's understanding of magic still fell short of Emily's. Hearing this, he stopped insisting and said, "All right, then. You undo the barriers for him. I'll look for evidence of Bobby Aski's crimes."
With that, Han Shuo turned his attention away from Emily and began carefully examining his surroundings. The secret chamber was not particularly spacious. Cabinets of various sizes stood all around it, with many unusual objects displayed on them.
One cabinet held numerous medals gleaming brightly. Each bore markings explaining its significance. These were all the various awards Bobby Aski had earned over his many years of military service. These awards and medals had helped him become the legion commander in command of the Griffin Legion, honors he could boast of for the rest of his life.
