The long memorial ritual finally ended. The worshippers who had remained prostrate on the ground raised their heads one after another, focusing their gazes on Han Shuo in the center of the crowd.
These people could not hear the conversation between Han Shuo and the Upper God, but the unusual atmosphere inside the Temple told them that something must have happened there.
The Pontiff also turned his gaze toward Han Shuo, a question in his eyes. Knowing what he wanted to ask, Han Shuo nodded, indicating that he had indeed communicated with the Evil Gods, but did not tell him the truth of the matter.
He probably understood something of the wishes of the Calamity Church's Evil Gods, but he was ultimately only a Base God, hardly worthy of the attention of those true Deities. Naturally, they would not tell him much about such matters.
The transition from Base God to Lower God was a watershed, marking the rugged road between mortals and Deities-a road that was not long, yet was extremely difficult to cross. Even the strongest Base God faced certain death against the weakest Lower God. In the eyes of true Deities, Base Gods were not yet figures qualified to speak to them as equals. Without divine power, a divine soul, or a Divine Domain, a Base God was merely an ant to them, albeit a relatively strong one. It was that simple.
Han Shuo offered the fat man no explanation, and the latter asked no questions. As the Pontiff of the Calamity Church, he knew some of the taboos among Deities. He did not ask what he should not ask or seek to know what he should not know. He understood those boundaries, which was why he could hold his position.
Now that the ritual had ended,
