Background and History

Early Cultivation

Yao Wudi grew up in the Myriad Phenomena Sect and studied among its many peaks. Yan Wenzheng was one of his earliest instructors, whose harsh lessons left him with an enduring sense of unease. More than two thousand years after entering the sect, most of Yao Wudi’s contemporaries had died, while he remained short of Spirit Transformation 284 456 465.

His reputation was built on exceptional Dharma Combat. He defeated his sect peers in his youth and won a Gold Core competition while still at Foundation Establishment. Rather than exhaustively studying every method, he refined his understanding through repeated battles 373 379 463.

Taking Wang Ba as a Disciple

At Yan-Qiao Pass, Yao Wudi revealed his name to Wang Ba while shattering an Incense Dao Divine Relic with one punch. He then swept through the attacking cultivators and killed Xue An. Tang Ji understood that Yao Wudi had come for Wang Ba, rather than out of any particular closeness to him 271.

Yao Wudi subsequently reviewed Wang Ba’s cultivation, corrected hidden shortcomings, and prepared him to inherit the Myriad Laws lineage. After Wang Ba formally entered the sect, Yao Wudi registered him under Myriad Laws Peak and began transmitting its cultivation method 275 282.

Securing the necessary resources proved harder than expected. Several peak masters refused to supply their methods freely, and the sect’s Second Elder insisted that Yao Wudi follow the merit system. His strained relationships and dwindling lifespan complicated his efforts to establish a future for his disciple 283 284.

Despite those obstacles, he spent all his merit points preparing Five Elements resources sufficient for Wang Ba to reach Gold Core. Before departing for the West Sea Kingdom, he also humbled himself before fellow peak masters to arrange continuing instruction for Wang Ba 295 297.

West Sea Kingdom and Spirit Transformation

Yao Wudi’s final years at Nascent Soul were precarious. Repeated lifespan extensions had left him vulnerable to damage from excessive exertion, and Wang Ba discovered that he had only fifty-seven years remaining. Killing the Primordial Demon Sect’s First Holy Son and several protectors had also damaged his Divine Patterns 295 296.

Wang Ba and Bu Chan sent him an Illusory-Aspect Tortoise-Head Inkstone before his departure. Yao Wudi recognized the twenty-thousand-merit healing treasure and was deeply moved that his Foundation Establishment disciple had obtained it 297 298.

In the West Sea Kingdom, Yao Wudi fought Seng Wangxin and repelled a surprise attack by a Spirit Transformation puppet, further damaging his foundations. Guan Ao’s death during the later defense of Sea-Repelling City provoked him into shattering his Divine Patterns to unleash greater combat power 340 345 346.

After defeating the enemy Spirit Transformation combatants, he faced his own tribulation with depleted reserves. Wang Ba appeared through a Nine Palaces mark, lent him power, and withdrew. Yao Wudi survived the final lightning strikes, entered Spirit Transformation, and subsequently destroyed the retreating Heavenly Land City with one punch 346 348.

Southeast Garrison Commander

As Great Jin’s Southeast Garrison Commander, Yao Wudi protected the southeastern frontier against the Myriad Gods Kingdom. He rescued Wang Ba’s group from the Mountain Ogre God, killed it despite an order to spare it, and also destroyed the Infant God 373.

He later entered occupied Great Qi to recover its secret realm, dismissing objections that his departure might expose the border. During this period, he continued personally guiding Wang Ba’s cultivation at Jade Emperor Peak 374 376 380.

When the Myriad Gods Kingdom overwhelmed Chen Kingdom, Yao Wudi fought until his reserves were nearly exhausted. The Dragonblood Peak Ancestor and Little Flower sacrificed themselves to cover the withdrawal, allowing him to escape with thirty-odd Nascent Soul cultivators. Mu Lianxu intervened when Door God intercepted them 462 463.

World Spirit and Later Battles

By Chapter 675, Yao Wudi is explicitly identified as a World Spirit. His cultivation ceiling is tied to the Little Cang Realm: the realm’s expansion opens a path for his further advancement, and he can eventually progress toward Tribulation Crossing through accumulation without undergoing Tribulation Lightning himself 675 838.

Summoned from the World Domain by Cang Fuzi, he fought the Six-Fingered God and Devil through mobility, deception, and precise attacks. He wounded it repeatedly, though its later adaptation exposed the substantial gap between their strengths 668.

After the Little Cang Realm became a Great Realm, Yao Wudi began comprehending multiple kinds of rules through his Myriad Laws lineage. During the battle against Buddha Lord Tianshang, he drew on the realm’s origin to block an attack aimed at Wang Ba, buying time for the cultivators to assemble their formation 836 910.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall, burly, and powerfully muscled; his size makes Hu Zaixi look small beside him 271 297.
  • Hair: Loose, ink-black hair, often flying wildly during combat 345 668.
  • Typical presentation: Frequently bare-chested, with lean, sharply defined muscles 442 668.
  • Distinguishing feature: Ten Thousand Laws Divine Patterns emerge across his body when he fights 271 345.

Personality

Yao Wudi is boisterous, proud, blunt, and exceptionally fond of fighting. He dislikes scheming but is not naïve: age has made him perceptive about hostility and manipulation. His eagerness for Dharma Combat can make him an exhausting sparring partner, even when he suppresses his cultivation 283 379 668.

He is acquisitive without embarrassment. He collects defeated enemies’ storage artifacts, openly admits to robbing major lineages for resources, and readily claims useful treasures for the sect. These habits coexist with considerable generosity toward Wang Ba 271 273 295 374.

Becoming a master brings out his capacity for self-examination. He acknowledges that his earlier self-centeredness hurt others and willingly apologizes or yields to secure instruction for his disciple. He considers such concessions less shameful than allowing pride to prevent him from doing what matters 297.

His loyalty to the sect is intensely personal: it is the home where he grew up. He risks himself for its cultivators and rejects the idea that enemies may kill his fellow disciples without facing retaliation 373 465.

Abilities & Skills

Myriad Laws Unitary Intent Art

The core inheritance of his lineage allows Yao Wudi to draw on numerous cultivation paths rather than specialize in a single element or method 379 562.

  • Documented paths: Five Elements, wind, lightning, stars, Pure Yang, Divine Soul, ice, physical-body cultivation, and Divine Patterns 379.
  • Combat-driven comprehension: Develops his understanding by fighting, progressing rapidly when he has sufficient opportunities for Dharma Combat 379 562.
  • Selective cultivation: Abandons unsuitable methods rather than preserving them at the expense of progress, as with the Great Sun Divine Body 379.

Divine Patterns Body

Yao Wudi created this body-refining approach by placing the essences of his cultivation methods into Divine Patterns and integrating those patterns into his flesh 379.

  • Designed to make his body impervious to arts through the interaction of its incorporated methods 379.
  • Can absorb hostile purple flames and return their power through a punch 271.
  • Can shatter his patterns for a major increase in combat power, at the cost of reserves and bodily condition 345 346.
  • Can deploy patterns directly: a five-colored Divine Pattern enters a pig-headed evil god’s seven orifices and destroys it from within 463.

Myriad Laws / Xuanhuang Dao Domain

Rather than comprehend and fuse numerous Dao Opportunities separately, Yao Wudi developed a single commanding Dao Opportunity that placed his many fundamental essences beneath the Myriad Laws Unitary Intent Art 562.

  • Produces a simplified Myriad Laws Dao Domain, also described as his black-and-yellow or Xuanhuang Dao Domain 462 562 668.
  • Changes continuously, making his movements and attacks difficult to predict 668.
  • Combines wind, lightning, and Divine Patterns to sharply increase movement speed 668.
  • Trades some of the possibilities of a domain formed from many individually comprehended Dao Opportunities for a path suited to his own style 562.

Dharma Combat

Yao Wudi combines overwhelming close-range force with tactical adaptability 271 346 668.

  • Shatters a Divine Relic and, after reaching Spirit Transformation, Heavenly Land City with single punches 271 348.
  • Feigns pursuit of Black Rong Emperor to draw the gaunt monk into a prepared counterattack 346.
  • Redirects the Six-Fingered God and Devil’s pursuing dark beams into its own face 668.
  • Remains vulnerable to exhaustion in spiritually depleted regions, where his Mother Qi of Ten Thousand Arts cannot replenish quickly 463.

Movement and Seal Techniques

  • Uses an improved version of the Lesser Celestial Circuit Escape-Dissolution Divine Ability, moving between matching Nine Palaces patterns 668.
  • Switches to wind-and-lightning movement when an opponent locks down the void and prevents that escape method 668.
  • Copies Wang Ba’s Seal Body Technique onto a mineral so he can sense it across a great distance; later emerges through the seal to answer Wang Ba’s call 439 442.

Life of All Things

A Divine Ability taught to him by Ling Yuzi, separate from the recorded Azure Emperor Seed-God Mantra 296.

  • Grows vegetation on a Geng Metal Sword Artifact despite the opposing elemental relationship 296.
  • Converts the artifact’s Geng Metal Qi into Yi Wood Qi 296.
  • Offers this ability to Ling Weizi in exchange for teaching Wang Ba and supporting his cultivation for ten years 296.

Instruction and Cultivation Diagnosis

  • Identifies and corrects concealed weaknesses in Wang Ba’s cultivation 275.
  • Helps reforge Wang Ba’s second dantian and explains the preparatory requirements of the Myriad Laws Dao 275.
  • Demonstrates wind methods to help Wang Ba develop the understanding needed to incorporate wind into his Gold Core 380 382.
  • Proposes using the Womb-Nurturing Incarnation Technique to cultivate the Yuan Magnetic True Method through an external incarnation 380.
  • Revises the Myriad Laws Unitary Intent Art; Wang Ba later teaches that revision to Wang Qingyang 408.

Equipment and Items

  • Guardian Token and Golden Chain — Surrendered to Patriarch Yuyang when Yao Wudi lost his Chen Kingdom guardian post 287.
  • Illusory-Aspect Tortoise-Head Inkstone — A healing treasure worth twenty thousand merit points, obtained for him by Wang Ba 296 297 298.
  • Nine Palaces-marked Jade Pendant — Kept protected during his Spirit Transformation tribulation; enabled Wang Ba’s intervention and shattered afterward 346.
  • Earth Vein Marrow Pulp — Used to replenish his body after his breakthrough and attack on Heavenly Land City 348.
  • Mystic Fire Alloyed Gold Iron — Refined into a dense iron ball for Wang Ba’s second dantian 275.

Relationships

  • Wang Ba — Disciple and inheritor of his Myriad Laws teachings. Yao Wudi exhausts his resources to prepare for Wang Ba’s future; Wang Ba reciprocates with healing treasures and decisive aid during his tribulation 275 295 298 346.
  • Bu Chan — His disciple’s dao companion. Supplies rare materials for her treatment and receives a farewell gift jointly prepared by her and Wang Ba 273 297.
  • Wang Yi’an — Wang Ba’s son, who addresses him as “Grandmaster.” Yao Wudi offers to teach him a “Myriad Law Sword Dao” after discovering that he practices the sword 366.
  • Tang Ji — Junior sect brother and fellow participant in Wang Ba’s return to the sect. Tang Ji later serves alongside him on the southeastern frontier and challenges his riskier decisions 271 275 374.
  • Shen Ying — Junior sect brother who studied under him for several years. Welcomes his return and provides Wang Ba with the Cloudwater True Void Art 283.
  • Ling Weizi — A resentful sect peer whom Yao Wudi persuades to instruct Wang Ba by offering the Life of All Things Divine Ability 283 296.
  • Hu Zaixi — A frequently teased junior sect brother. Despite their friction, Yao Wudi trusts him to guide Wang Ba fairly 297.
  • Guan Ao — Fellow commander in the West Sea Kingdom. His death becomes the immediate catalyst for Yao Wudi’s all-out counterattack before his breakthrough 295 344 345.
  • Xun Fujun — Senior sect authority who values Yao Wudi’s potential but repeatedly clashes with his temperament and decisions 340 366 373 382.
  • Senior Brother Pang — A respected senior who assists him before the Second Elder; later fails to persuade him to spare the Mountain Ogre God 284 373.
  • Yan Wenzheng — Early instructor and grand elder. One of the few people who can make Yao Wudi uneasy and immediately curb his behavior 456 457.
  • Mu Lianxu — Helps him escape Door God during the retreat from Chen Kingdom and understands his determination to protect the sect 463 465.
