Background / History
Origins and servant life
Wang Ba was born during a devastating drought in which people resorted to cannibalism. His father named him Ba, using the character for a drought demon; other people frequently misread his name during his childhood 59.
He begins as a servant disciple assigned to raise chickens alongside Old Sun. He memorizes the chicken-raising instructions before exploring West Garden Market, a trading place serving mortals within the Eastern Saint Sect 1 2.
His early priority is survival rather than displaying his potential. Although he can transfer lifespan, he recognizes that this advantage cannot immediately protect an ordinary servant disciple. Growing unease about the sect leads him to buy a costly map in hopes of finding an escape route 33.
Hidden Spiritual Root and early cultivation
Old Hou explains that the Body-Strengthening Scripture was created to identify Hidden Spiritual Roots, and that someone without a Spiritual Root cannot cross its ninth-to-tenth-layer barrier. Wang Ba is subsequently recognized as possessing a Hidden Spiritual Root 27 32.
Zhao Feng takes an interest in him, recognizes his rapid progress, and later warns him to seek shelter at the Mountain Manor if trouble erupts during the sect’s march. Wang Ba eventually enters Qi Refining through the Ren Water Fourfold Command Art 50 59 70.
Breeding under the Heavenly Gate Sect
Wang Ba develops his chicken farm into both a livelihood and a source of cultivation resources. He acquires a captured spying puppet to handle feeding and cleaning, plants a Black Crystal Peach Tree, and trades Spirit Chickens for formations, equipment, and protective treasures 91 104 106.
His breeding talent becomes leverage against Lu Yuansheng, who openly wants him dead. Presenting a second-tier supreme-grade Spirit Chicken persuades Lu to spare him and exempt his dao companion from frontline service. In return, Wang Ba promises a third-tier chicken within nine years; Lu later forces him to renegotiate that deadline to one year 186 211.
Facing this pressure, Wang Ba prepares to flee with Bu Chan and Shen Fu. He teaches them the Mixed Origin Two Extremes Art to conceal their Divine Soul signatures and obtains the Baleful Blood Art among the resources demanded from Lu Yuansheng 211.
Rogue cultivation and the Myriad Laws Lineage
After leaving Swordwave Garrison, Wang Ba’s Spirit Cuisine earns him a reputation in the Yan Kingdom, where normal Qi Refining cultivators have a strong demand for it. He operates under several false identities, including “Master Shen Fu” and “Zhao Wei,” while navigating the interests of the Three Great Sects 153 225 232 240.
Yao Wudi directly offers to take him as a disciple. Wang Ba accepts and enters the Myriad Laws Lineage, where he studies multiple cultivation methods and learns to develop the Mother Qi of Ten Thousand Arts 271 284 297.
His West Sea inspection mission brings him close to fellow disciples and leaves him stranded with Qin Lingxiao beyond the Sea Barriers. A Burrowing Sea Otter leads them to an abandoned cave abode containing a nautical chart, giving them a route back toward the West Sea Kingdom 319 329 335.
Sect administration and the Yin God crisis
Wang Ba moves into increasingly important administrative work. He leads an audit of all Twenty-Five Departments, then becomes Chief Director when the Five Elements Offices reopen. He accepts Chi Liequan as Fire Office director despite their earlier conflict 359 360 408.
During his Nascent Soul breakthrough period, the Yin God reveals that practitioners of the Yin Spirit Great Dream Scripture can become its bodies. Wang Ba faces a battle for his consciousness and receives critical Divine Soul instruction through a Wordless Jade Stele. He subsequently occupies the Yin God’s Divine Position himself 462 465 475.
Using that position, he moves among the Myriad Gods Kingdom’s evil gods and receives the Mother God’s Heaven-Spanning Method. He maintains this role through deception while acting against the kingdom’s influence 481 495 502.
Protecting the Little Cang Realm
Wang Ba creates his own Daoist Grounds while fighting off World Eaters. The completed grounds bring his accumulated paths into accord and trigger his Spirit Transformation Tribulation 576.
He later discovers that Yao Wudi’s True Spirit has merged with the Little Cang Realm and cannot leave it. Cang Fuzi grants Wang Ba one-third of the realm’s authority, promising the remainder if he can safely move it. Wang Ba also stops Ye Cangsheng from escaping, transferring his Primordial Spirit into a Stone Dragon Lizard 631 634.
The realm’s dwindling domain origin becomes an urgent concern: Wang Ba estimates only twenty or thirty years remain and considers evacuation aboard the Tribulation-Crossing Treasure Raft. His search for resources eventually yields enough primal chaos source substance to sustain the realm for four or five thousand years if used carefully 678 719.
Great Sea Market and the Four Great Realms
At the Great Sea Market, Wang Ba gathers Primordial Dao Treasures and enters Immortal Lord Lu He’s estate. When Man Daoist betrays the group during the market’s collapse, Wang Ba escapes with elixirs, Dao Treasures, spirit tablets, and the White-Headed, Horse-Bodied Beast’s Immortal Marrow Jade Liquid 708 734 736.
After finding Immortal Pass impossible to break by force, he investigates the route used by the Supreme True Buddha’s followers to enter and leave the Sea of Boundary Turmoil. Beyond it, he works with Bai Liaochan and the Cloud-Heaven Realm, defeats the Red Bodhisattva, and assists against the Supreme True Buddha’s forces 770 804 808 809 825.
He also teaches reincarnated Primordial Gods and Devils raised by the Still Cave. He identifies the harm caused by prematurely awakened past-life memories and recommends practical experience, external resources, and the restoration of a world spirit 852 871.
Boundary Sea Origin and departure
After an encounter with Buddha Lord Tianshang, Wang Ba finds himself reduced to a True Spirit fish in the Boundary Sea Origin. Li Yuehua protects him while he studies its laws, regains human form, and makes a great vow that receives a response from the Origin itself 872 873 876 879 880 881.
He returns to his body at the Yinxu Daoist Grounds with insights that advance his Dao Domain. He later helps resist Tianshang through a Great Formation, gathering the strength of numerous cultivators against an opponent far beyond them 883 885 910.
Following Tianshang’s final nirvana, Wang Ba leads those willing to accompany him toward Extreme Azure Abyss. When Bodhisattva Tibo addresses him as “Immortal Lord,” Wang Ba instead bows to the Wu Ape King, identifying the ape—not himself—as the Immortal Lord 911.
Appearance
Wang Ba is repeatedly described as ordinary-looking, with an increasingly calm and composed bearing 355 567.
- Youthful face: Remains recognizably unchanged when Wang Xu meets him again after more than two hundred years 567.
- Long hair: Whips loose during his desperate battle in which he exhausts Law Power, essence blood, and Divine Soul strength 253.
- Clothing: Wears blue-green robes after his Void Refinement Tribulation and recreates a blue robe upon taking human form in the Boundary Sea Origin 651 879.
- Disguises: Uses borrowed clothes and a smeared face early on, then Yin Spirit Power to present entirely different appearances 8 12.
Personality
Wang Ba is cautious, practical, and reluctant to expose his strength without a worthwhile reason. He declines the Combat Dao Discussion rather than reveal his abilities for its reward, and routinely prioritizes defensive equipment, escape methods, and preparation 33 104 307.
His courtesy is often strategic. He cultivates connections, avoids unnecessary enemies, and can flatter a dangerous superior without hesitation. Over time, however, relationships initially pursued for convenience become genuine attachments as he recognizes the care shown by his martial uncles 186 312 439 680.
He is deeply loyal to Bu Chan and old friends. He risks offending a Spirit Transformation cultivator rather than fail his wife, rejects a later marriage alliance because of his oath to have only one dao companion, and helps Wen Yong despite knowing his chances of advancement are extremely poor 338 383 785.
His growing responsibilities can also make him severe. Qin Lingxiao challenges his willingness to justify sacrifices—including abandoning Wang Yi’an—as the safest or most worthwhile choice. Wang Ba likewise acknowledges that his earlier sympathy for Wang Xu contributed to a later disaster 610 619.
He treats cultivation as something to analyze, test, and refine. His strengths include summarizing repeated experience, identifying shared principles, and adapting methods rather than accepting inherited practice unquestioningly 167 307 852.
Abilities & Skills
Lifespan Transfer and Expenditure
Wang Ba can transfer lifespan and expend it to accelerate eligible forms of learning or advancement 33 135.
- Masters the Divine Dream Technique’s first realm by spending 17.8 years of lifespan 135.
- Uses lifespan expenditure to learn Dream Creation rapidly, though the process still causes substantial mental exhaustion 147.
- Can drain another being’s lifespan; one fourth-tier opponent dies through this exceptional opportunity 270.
- Cannot automatically purchase all cultivation progress: Qi Refining Law Power and certain higher technique stages require other means 70 135.
- Treats a spirit beast’s Lifespan Breakthrough as a one-time opportunity worth reserving for a decisive tier barrier 340.
Yin Spirit Great Dream Scripture
His Yin Spirit Power supports concealment, deception, Divine Soul manipulation, and beast control 12 135 263.
- Disguise: Alters how others perceive his appearance 12.
- Mental influence: The Divine Dream Technique can implant thoughts, but stronger Divine Souls resist it; contradictions can break the deception and create lasting resistance 135.
- Beast control: Remains effective on Jia Ten Five after the chicken advances to the third tier 263.
- Soul-searching: Combines Yin Spirit Power with soul-searching methods to extract memories and reconstruct Buddhist inheritances 837.
- Divine Position: Occupying the Yin God’s position lets him bypass other evil gods’ Divine Realms, a crucial advantage rather than proof of equivalent general combat strength 475.
- Risks: The scripture exposes its practitioners to possession by the Yin God; incense cultivation also carries dangers identified by Shao Yangzi 445 462.
Myriad Laws Unitary Intent Art
The Myriad Laws Lineage develops strength by studying and integrating many different methods. Wang Ba combines the Five Elements before expanding into wind, thunder, Yin-Yang, stars, divine patterns, and other paths 307 373 576.
- Converts attributed Law Power into the Mother Qi of Ten Thousand Arts, which initially lacks the distinctive power of individual attributes 284.
- Merges incoming powers and redirects them, allowing him to contend with multiple Nascent Soul-level opponents 415.
- Uses Five Elements generation and counteraction to dismantle stronger but rigid attacks 416.
- Studies an opponent’s Dao intent through contact between techniques 416.
- Eventually establishes a complete cultivation system of his own, reducing his reliance on uncertain external substances 833.
Divine Patterns, Dao Domains, and Rules
His understanding of divine patterns turns accumulated techniques into principles from which new methods can be deduced 448.
- Movement: Uses Divine Patterns to vanish and reappear across a battlefield 626 774.
- Broad applications: Incorporates elemental abilities into his Xuanhuang Dao Domain and saber attacks, including Wood System restraints 626.
- Rule interference: Begins interfering with rules at early Body Integration; experience merging with the Little Cang Realm is central to this achievement 738.
- Divine-beast rules: Learns Silkworm Dragon Realm methods from Chao Shi and combines several divine beasts’ strength-related rules in a single strike 804 807.
- Limits: Rules learned in one environment can become sluggish under different Boundary Sea conditions; enemy treasures can also suppress his Divine Pattern movement 774 808.
Body Cultivation and Incarnations
Wang Ba supplements his main cultivation with physical training, the Thunder God Body, and independently cultivating incarnations 419 651.
- Yuan Magnetism Rail Man: Created through the Womb-Nurturing Incarnation Technique using a wounded Mane-Lion Eel; left to cultivate in the Deep Sea 419.
- Separation problem: An incarnation’s independent growth can make reintegration increasingly difficult 520.
- Emotional cost: Wang Ba admits that separating selfish desires and distracting thoughts into an incarnation was itself an act of extreme selfishness 535.
- True Martial Incarnation: Reaches the fourth tier with extraordinary ease and continues advancing 677.
- Combat forms: Later manifests three heads and six arms through his understanding of rules, despite not having deeply studied the associated ability beforehand 808.
Beast Breeding and Spirit Cuisine
His work with Spirit Chickens develops into advanced breeding research, beast-assisted combat, and a recognized Spirit Chef career 186 225 359.
- Breeds second-tier supreme-grade Spirit Chickens and later raises Jia Ten Five and Jia Ten Six through third-tier tribulations 186 263.
- Studies inheritance and nutrition, including the possibility of breeding pureblood Hundred-Colored Stone Dragon Lizards 359.
- Produces Spirit Chicken Essence as a valuable trade commodity 263.
- Learns Spirit Cuisine through repeated practice and comparison of ingredient-processing methods 167.
- Refines Profound Dragon Dao Soldiers from Psychic Ghost Loaches using third-tier dragonkind Essence Blood 263.
- Can reach combat strength comparable to an ordinary mid-stage Nascent Soul cultivator with his Dao Soldiers, though this remains externally supported strength 414.
Teaching and Administration
Wang Ba applies his broad cultivation knowledge to individual guidance and large-scale organization 359 852.
- Leads a multi-person audit of the Twenty-Five Departments’ storehouses and records 359 360.
- Organizes staffing and accepts qualified personnel despite past personal friction 408.
- Teaches cultivators from Qi Refining through Tribulation Crossing, helping one listener condense a Dao Opportunity 852.
- Tailors cultivation methods to individual traits; by this stage, his technical attainments can rival Mahayana cultivators despite his lower realm 871.
