Background / History

Soul Beast Origin and Nuoding Academy

Xiao Wu originates from the Star Dou Great Forest and transforms into a human to cultivate anew. Her mother dies protecting her from Bibi Dong, becoming a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring. This loss is the source of Xiao Wu’s hatred toward Bibi Dong and Spirit Hall 10 12 15.

At Nuoding Academy, Xiao Wu regards Tang San as an older brother until she reads Xiong Shaoqing’s diary. Its claims that Tang San and Tang Hao know her identity and intend to exploit her sacrifice turn her affection into fear and disgust. Tang San’s subsequent private thoughts independently confirm that he considers her a valuable future Soul Ring 2 3 5.

Seeking Refuge in Suotuo City

After leaving Nuoding Academy, Xiao Wu follows a diary entry to the Old Oak Tavern in Suotuo City. There she presents herself as a fugitive from a seemingly kind older brother who actually wants to kill her. Xiong Shaoqing offers her travel money and urges her to leave, but she interprets his rejection as an attempt to protect her from Spirit Hall 3 4.

Her attachment rests partly on a deception: Xiong Shaoqing deliberately presents himself as an injured, reborn God King with memories of their previous life. Xiao Wu believes his fabricated history and treats his aloof behavior as concealed devotion. Her emotional responses, in turn, generate cultivation rewards for him 2 3 5 8.

When Tang San catches up, Xiao Wu attacks him to protect Xiong Shaoqing and forces him to retreat. She then accompanies Xiong Shaoqing into the Star Dou Great Forest to obtain his first Soul Ring 9 10 11.

Bibi Dong and the Arena Team

In the forest, Xiao Wu recognizes Bibi Dong and attempts to avenge her mother. The diary system’s prohibition against mutual harm stops her attack; it also prevents Bibi Dong from killing her. Xiao Wu subsequently accepts Bibi Dong’s diary friend request and suppresses her hostility outwardly without forgiving her 12.

Xiao Wu befriends Zhu Zhuqing, shares a room with her, and tells her about Tang San’s intentions. The two resolve to protect Xiong Shaoqing together. Xiao Wu later names their three-person arena group the Heaven-Shaking Phantom Team, combining his bear Martial Soul’s name with the women’s speed and phantom-like movement 16 18 24.

Their rivalry with Tang San escalates into arena battles and ambushes. During a match against Tang San, Dai Mubai, and Ma Hongjun, Xiong Shaoqing intercepts poisoned arrows aimed at Xiao Wu. She helps him attack Dai Mubai and reacts with fury when she sees the poison wound 36 37 44.

Training and the Soul Spirit Method

Xiong Shaoqing teaches Xiao Wu the Archaic Body Tempering Art, correcting her stance and demanding stronger waist-driven attacks. Despite complaining about his severity, she continues practicing through exhaustion 46 57.

After Tang San drugs her lotus seed soup with an aphrodisiac, Xiong Shaoqing carries her to the Listening Snow Inn. He proposes sexual intimacy as the necessary treatment; Xiao Wu expresses willingness while still under the drug’s influence. The encounter marks their transition into a sexual relationship, after which he writes that he will stop maintaining his cold persona toward her 48 49 51.

When Xiong Shaoqing introduces the Soul Spirit Equal Contract, Xiao Wu helps persuade the dying Mother Leopard to trust him. She reveals her Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast presence and assures the leopard that he can save her and her cub. Unlike Zhu Zhuqing, Xiao Wu does not need a contracted Soul Spirit to obtain her next ring, because her recultivating body generates rings naturally 62 66 68.

Journey to Spirit City and Beyond

Following the destruction of the Rain-Listening Waterside Pavilion, Xiao Wu travels with Xiong Shaoqing, Zhu Zhuqing, Ning Rongrong, and Bibi Dong toward the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and Spirit City. She reaffirms that she will accompany him despite the danger of entering Spirit Hall’s territory 82 87.

She later participates in the escape from Slaughter City, using physical combat against attacking bats before Xiong Shaoqing leads the group out with the Divine Slaughter’s Domain 101 102.

Upon learning that Qian Renxue is Bibi Dong’s daughter, Xiao Wu distinguishes the daughter from the mother’s crimes. She continues to regard Qian Renxue as a sister while retaining her hatred of Bibi Dong. In her latest documented appearance, she travels with Xiong Shaoqing’s party through Cloud Maple City 104 117.

Xiao Wu combines affectionate dependence with fierce protectiveness. Around Xiong Shaoqing she clings to his sleeve, worries about his opinion, and reads kindness into his stern remarks. When someone threatens or insults him, that gentleness can disappear instantly: she attacks mercenaries, pursues Tang San, and vows to defend Xiong Shaoqing even at the cost of her life 5 6 7 9.

She is emotionally susceptible to stories of love and sacrifice. Tragic romances move her to tears, and she questions why lovers must die rather than remain together. Her imagination can also be unexpectedly practical: while hearing a ghost romance, she considers what Soul Bone its tree demon might drop 8 55.

Although jealous when Xiong Shaoqing gives other women attention, Xiao Wu develops close friendships with them. Her treatment of Qian Renxue shows that she can separate personal gratitude from inherited grievances rather than blame an innocent person for a parent’s actions 56 61 102 104.
